Bricks’ Razor?

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

He’s referring to what I said and merging it with the concept of Occam’s Razor (wherein the simplest explanation is the most likely one).

And btw, I am not saying that this isn’t a good change. It’s just hard for me to understand why we went out of our way to fix this minor continuity issue while leaving more glaring ones present.

I will say that Poppa did some good work there. Just feel like his talents would have been better served by putting TIEs into Cinefy’s Mustafar shot or something else.

I am actually PMing with Cinefy, so maybe something will come of it.

In terms of my time, though, it’s not really a “this task vs that task” sort of thing, rather it’s what I can reasonably find time to do, especially if I’m only working a few minutes at a time like it often is these days. Animating 3D models in Cinema4D takes more solid chunks of time so it wasn’t really something I was ready to jump into.

Chase, I agree that black would look very cool! I don’t think it would be easy to implement with the material we have. It’s easier to shift the hue of the existing color with secondaries, but trying to change to black won’t look quite right, unfortunately!

Well I’m definitely glad you were able to get something done that looks this good in that little amount of time!

That looks amazing, poppasketti! At first I was a little uncertain about the yellow inside the ship (I thought it was just all black at first), but then I realized they did the same thing with the original red; so yeah, I definitely think it should be changed inside too.

Also, kudos for noticing the color in the reflection on the floor too, you cheeky bastard, you. That really helps to sell it.

That recolouring of the ship is fantastic. it’s such a small detail but it works so well.

Hey Hal, are you interested in using RogueLeader’s ideas for Kijimi in Ascendant too? About having it be mid-Civil War with people fighting stormtroopers off in the distance?

(Slight deviation from the Dagger discussions, I know.)

I would be interested in some spray paintings of Luke Skywalker on the walls.

Side note: I cannot get over the fact that the official canon explanation for why nobody came to help on Crait was that the First Order cut communication lines. Like, bruh. The whole point of the movie is that everyone was hopeless until Luke shows up.

Oh really? I don’t think I’ve heard that before that’s interesting. Do you know what the source is?

From TROS novelization:

Thanks to some risky assignments led by Poe, Rey, Finn, and Snap, they’d learned that the First Order had been doggedly perusing their sympathizers, restricting communications, cutting off supply lines, capturing or even assassinating allies. In short, no one had answered the call because very few had even heard it.

Makes me feel sick lmao. It’s probably the biggest retcon I’ve ever heard. The others in this movie I consider clarifications bordering on retcon, but this one is absolutely a retcon.

That is interesting. Thanks for sharing that J. I agree with you, it sort of defeats the purpose of the galaxy being too hopeless to fight at that point. So the novel is saying people still had hope, but just didn’t hear the message? Weird. Like, what’s the point of that? Seems like they wanted a logical answer for why no one came, rather than a thematic one.

It’s most definitely a retcon because Connix literally says in TLJ: “Our distress signal has been received at multiple points. But no response.”

Anyways, my point in bringing this up is that since the title of this movie is The Rise of Skywalker I’d say it’s a good idea to hone in on the thematic side of things. Kijimi is one place where that is possible (as well as the puppet show).

Wait, why is the Skywalker lightsaber becoming unstable in Ascendant? To symbolize Rey’s struggle with the dark side?

Author
Time

To symbolize her dark side struggle and to maintain TLJ continuity because the crystal broke

Author
Time

Speaking of the puppet show, the puppets are almost done (using Faraday’s designs) and I’ll hopefully get a chance to film them this weekend or next week.

Author

And even without the symbolism regarding the unstable lightsaber, it also gives us some actual consequences to it being broken in the last film, beyond Rey putting a leather strap around the hilt. Plus, it gives us a cool new effect that is visually interesting.

Sounds good RogueLeader. Very excited for that stuff.

Testing, another reason (for me at least) that we would want the lightsaber to be crackly is to justify Rey’s feelings of unworthiness about it. If she was unable to completely fix it, it makes more sense that she would feel the need to “earn” it again one day.

Is the saber broken since the training at the beginning? or it starts to fail during Kylo and Rey’s fight?

The idea was that it would only crackle during training, but then it would start to short out during their fight since it’s being put under such force (no pun intended). Although it isn’t absolutely necessary, it would still be cool to see.

Interesting… not sure what the point of that even is. I don’t think it’s a hard retcon since like you said Connix says that it was received by “multiple points” not everyone, but still seems like a pointless addition to make nonetheless.

And regarding making the saber crackle, will it be possible for there to be a version where it doesn’t short out? Just the crackly filter the entire time essentially

Author

The shorting out is not a necessity, but seemed to fit in naturally with the added crackle effect conceptually.

The puppet stuff, still looking forward to it!

Kijimi graffiti could be cool, to hint at the pending ‘rise’ of ‘Skywalker’ in the heart of the people, if indeed someone wishes to bring it about. Otherwise, it’s not necessary.

And a “canon” suggestion that in TLJ no one came to help because the First Order left the phone off the hook is dumb as hell. I’m really starting to not care much at all for “canon” surrounding this movie or the ST overall. Death of the “author” is best for those, it seems. (I see this as a separate concern from not going out of my way to make edits inconsistent with books-and-things-like-that to come.)

My stance on revising fan edits.

Graffiti would be cool; but wasn’t it also suggested that there could be explosions and blaster fire off in the distance? Maybe a few cries of “Death to the First Order!” to show that they’re starting to rebel. Heck, someone could even call out “Protect the children!” to tie back into the earlier comment of “We have to start harvesting more of the galaxy’s young.”

If Disney Star Wars doesn’t care, why should we? Lol.

Also it would be neat with making the stuff at Kijimi appear to be more of an uprising. That connected with the new puppet show would help connect the dots with TLJ and “the spark” as well as motivation for the FO all for joining up with the Palpy army since they need more power to control the galaxy that’s beginning to rebel.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
