Take your time Hal, it’ll be some time anyway with other aspects of the edit being worked on by you talented people on this forum!

As for dagger stuff, as other like Burbin and Rogue have brought up, visions will be the key.

First: There needs to be a vision when Rey touches the dagger in the “Vader Shrine Room.” I’d cut the scene to here directly going to and picking up the dagger, since in the original movie edit she goes for and focuses on Chewy’ stuff. Anyway, for this vision, it would use some clips that highlight the Wayfinder drawing in the “Old texts/Lukes Journal” and some shots of the Ocean Shore and DSII wreckage. I think, for the audience, it would be important to use the drawing of the Wayfinder for this first vision to connect with what Rey knows and what the audience has seen … which then leads to my second vision spot.

The next vision would be at the wreckage when Rey pulls out the dagger on the cliffside. These visions focus on some clips of the interior and the actual Wayfinder on the pedestal. The vision is clearer as she continues to connect with the dark side.

If anyone has the 4k rip of the movie, it may help to use that higher resolution for some Zoom in shots so it’s not 1:1 use of scenes/clips for these visions. Not saying it is an absolute must, but it may “look” better to the viewer maybe?

EDIT: It may be nice to have some vision shots of the inside of the DSII since in the movie, Rey was pretty much making a B-line to the throne room fairly easily, which even having a dagger that points to a spot in the distance would still take some exploring to figure things out since it is wreckage. So having some vision spots of some of the interior may help? Again, maybe using some 4K shots to zoom in random spots may help it not be a 1:1 clip use, but again helps the audience to see that Rey is being guided and kinda know where to go because of some of the vision shots. (she obviously isn’t getting a turn by turn directions, so her still looking around would be natural since she is getting just glimpses.

Also, having a vision during her looking out at the DSII may help the transition by hearing the Space Horses’ stampede coming into the shot can stop the vision too. It can help the transition between looking at the DSII wreckage/vision shot and having the crew being “interrupted” by the coming Ex Stormtroopers appear.

The first vision with Kylo in the “Vader Shrine Room” get’s interrupted by Kylo and the DSII wreckage scene’s vision gets interrupted by Jannah and crew.
