Not I, Darth Chaltab.

Anyone here read "Justice League of America: Year 1"?

By the way, I hear that for Spider-Man 3 Thomas Haden Church is playing the Sand Man and Topher Grace is playing Eddie Brock/Venom(!), I kid you not. So, is Spider-Man still all good or do you think the casting of Grace as Venom indicates the franchise having jumped the shark?

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I have. I thought the cover art for #1 was outstanding, as well as the story. Picked up #2 last night. Must say that I'm impressed so far, and I'm not really a fan of Superman, etc.

Just getting into JSA Classified as well.

Haven't read JLA Y1. I wasn't reading anything back when Venom was first introduced, so I can't say Grace ruins it for me or anything. I have faith in Raimi and his writers, so we'll see what they come up with, I guess.

Trying to think of who could play Power Girl in a movie if they ever had her in one. Was thinking it would have to be someone with the right "dimensions" shall we say. Like maybe, God help me, Jenny McCarthy, who's a little older but could fill it out nicely.

JLA Year one was quite good. Though, I believe I read somewhere that the whole bit with the Doom Patrol was retconned out! ARGH! Curse you DC excecutives!

Anyway, as much as I liked Supergirl in Batman/Superman... I don't know. I think something seems off about the current "Girl Power" arc. Maybe it will be revealed that everything that's gone wrong over the past few years of DC time will be a plot by Lex Luthor and Calculator... I hope.

Still, seeing the Titans in Supergirl #2 was nice.

I will always remember Reeve as Supes. I don't think a Capt. Marvel movie would *ahem* fly. He can't even support his own comic. I do like the character, but he's just never been that popular.

I'd like to see a JLA or JSA movie, personally. Marvel's bringing everything including the kitchen sink to the movies...time for DC to move beyond animation and Bats and Superman. Don't even mention Catwoman. Huuhhhhh...

The problem with a Captain Marvel movie is that they couldn't even call it that. It would have to Be "Shazam!" or something.

Actually Captain Marvel was very popular back when he was first created in the 40s, but his reputation hasn't held up very well over the years. I wonder if the lawsuit DC brought against his original company (Fawcett Publishing) had anything to do with that...

Anyone in here ever see the Captain Marvel serial, done in the 1940's? It is ranked among the best serials made. They took several liberties with the character and so it isn't exactly like the comics, but most serials made did similar stuff with licensed characters.
Now I'm not sure a Captain Marvel movie could make it today and make it, but it was done once and was a good film.

Yeah, Marvel was out supering Supes back in the day. Thne the lawsuit.

I for one would love to see a Captain Marvel movie... Unfortunately, with lisencing issues and the fact it probably wouldn't sell well with studios or audiences means that if Captain Marvel ever does get a modern big-screen debut, it will probably be along side more marketable heroes.

Two words: Power Girl

Well... Yeah. PG is perhaps the most marketable superhero ever to a female audience. But heads would role if Jenna Jameson or whoever you suggest played her. I'd go with someone less... er... you know...

Yeah.

What would be good, is a Golden Age style JSA film with the original JSA line up minus the JLA members.

Wildcat, Hippolyta, Power Girl, Alan Scott, Dr. Midnight, Dr. Fate, Hourman, and Captain Marvel.

And did I mention that Power Girl should be there?

Actually I hear that Stephen Sommers, director of the Mummy films and the craptacular Van Helsing, is currently working on a live action adaptation of Captain Marvel, tentively titled "Shazam!"

Actually, I hadn't thought of Jenna Jameson. She would be the physically ideal choice, that's for sure. Aside from her or Jenny McCarthy, I can't really think of too many candidates.

Oh, so you said McCarthy. Eh. I get them confused. Is that bad??

Changing topic.. Um.

So, has anyone seen Frank Miller and Jim Lee's new Batman and Robin line? It's only got the first issue so far, but it's a retelling of Dick's early days as Robin. The first chapter was alright, though it implied that Dick's parents were shot in the head when I was under the impression they fell to their deaths because their trapeze ropes were cut...

And I'm starting to think that Frank Miller doesn't understand Batman anymore. He seems to think of Batman as a general type, which is not really how he's been depicted in any medium except Dark Knight Returns; even Year One, he wasn't that way.

But at the end of Batman and Robin #1 Batman says to the grieving Dick: "On your feet, soldier. You've just been drafted into a war!"

That. ISN'T. Batman! Ugh. Furthermore, that's the only dialogue he says to Grayson in the whole book, and it's the last panel. SO it left a rather bad taste in my mouth. Thoughts?

I always thought Miller's strength was his ear for Batman's dialogue. For me, when Miller's Batman spoke in the past in Y1, DKR, and DKSA I could hear it and say "That's the way Batman would speak". I'm still undecided on All-Star so far. The line you're talking about, for some reason didn't really affect me the way it obviously affected you. For me, it seems like the entire Bats line is gone to hell in a hand-basket with the exception of Detective. Bats used to be all I read, now I'm diversifying.

Green Arrow and Ex Machina are my current favorites, along with anything by Straczynski.

It's a Wildstorm book, I think (or Vertigo). The main character's name is Mitchell Hundred, and he's been elected mayor of NY City. His ability is that he can control machinery and electronics with his thoughts, and has used his powers for good. The intertwining of the political side of it, coupled with his not-so-nice sometimes character make this a favorite. The book didn't sell well initially, but seems to be doing better now.

Hm. I might check it out...

Thing is, I'm writing a Titans/Justice League crossover that I considered calling Ex Machina... then I was told there was already a DC storyline with that name. Of course, my plot has absolutely no relation to that story, but...

Oh, darn them for getting there first!

Considering the Mummy connection, I think Brendan Fraser would be a great Captain Marvel.

As for All-Star Batman and Robin, it's all wrong. And I know it's a new interpretation and all that, but the Graysons being shot? Dick on the run from the Police? Batman (not Bruce Wayne) taking in Dick the night of his parents death? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Good point. Well, I thougth the bit about the corrupt cops was good; helped give Dick a motivation to fight instead of letting the police handle his parents' murder. But them being shot... was that *not* a metaphor? I was certain they fell.
