Okay - bowing to peer pressure, I've created a version of my Classic Empire in which Darth Vader has a red lightsaber. (A simple matter of chromakeying the pink one out.)

This does mean I have to reencode all the fight scenes myself, resulting in a slight drop in quality, particularly as there are those saturated reds and oranges which the DV codec hates.

But oh well.

It remains 2004 DVD quality, and the saber is red, so I hope you're happy.

I have also restored the flopped insignia on Piett and the 12-year-old lieutenant at the end of the film.

I looked carefully at the reframed scenes in the Falcon. My, there sure are a lot of reframed shots there.

I have chosen to leave these untouched, since this is an analog change rather than a digital change, done with Kerschner's blessing (as were most of the SE changes) and it does seem like a good idea to zoom in a bit on those scenes and not show too much of the cockpit. Also it would have been possible to do in 1980.

Consider this a deliberate creative decision.

As for using the Cowclops transfer, well, Moth3r's transfers are great, but I don't have his Empire or Jedi, and I used the first Cowclops (TR47) transfer for the ANH Classic Edition anyway, I kind of consider myself a Cowclops stalwart.

As in ANH, the use of laserdisc footage in this edit is so quick and minor that I would dare anyone to notice the difference anyway. =)

Still, not a bad idea to grab his transfer if I ever do Jedi. I'd also like to really learn good FCP techniques for reverse telecine (60i to 24p) to make full use of dark_jedi's fullscreen versions of the trilogy (his Jedi beats hell out of any other version out there).

I should actually look at the making of the SE and Empire of Dreams before I sign off on this edit as well, maybe grab some 60i bits of shots from there too.
