That opens a whole new can of worms for the worst edit thread. Hell, have Holdo talk about a sick triceratops.

While I’m not sure there are enough Leia lines in the TFA LEGO game for that, I’m sure there will be a lot for both Holdo and her in the upcoming Skywalker Saga LEGO game.

I could check it out though. What exactly did you have in mind for her to say?

Just something about there possibly being a spy on board. The specifics would depend on what audio we can get.

Dub Snoke with the voice of an old woman to further distinguish him her from Palpatine. They actually considered making Snoke a woman when making TFA. Does anyone ever refer to Snoke with male pronouns? Those would have to be fixed.

Imagine Helen Mirren as Snoke. That would have been great.

Actually, dubbing Snoke as a woman would be an opportunity to change some lines. I know it’s a nitpick, but I’ve always hated how he says “You lost to a girl who had never held a lightsaber. You failed!” instead of “You lost to a girl who had never held a lightsaber in her life!”, the latter of which I find flows much better, but really that’s neither here nor there. Perhaps his scenes in TFA could be amended to have Snoke mention the Senate, perhaps ordering its imminent destruction.

It wouldn’t be too hard to change any male pronouns, either - just find a /sh/ phoneme for each character needed, and blend it onto the start of “he.”

The real trick would be finding a really good actress to dub it all over.

Offhand I think Leia refers to Snoke as he when talking to Han on D’Qar.

Yeah. I would probably remove that whole line, to be honest. Hearing Leia say that someone “seduced (her) son” makes me uncomfortable no matter what pronouns you use or whether you follow it up with “to the dark side.”

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

I’m almost positive they were going for a callback to Obi-Wan’s “Vader was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force” line from ANH, but it does come off as awkward hearing it from Leia.

Nah, I checked. Nothing that creative.

What have people come up with as dialog to overlay with Kylo’s communion with Vader? I know people had looked into adding voices to tie into the “every voice in your head” stuff Palpatine talks about. What came of that?

Author

I had an idea for this awhile back.

You could make it just voices, or maybe a vision like he has in TROS when he touches the helmet, since he says “show me”. But basically, the vision would revolve around three lines he hears.

Palpatine: If the Jedi are not all destroyed, it will be civil war without end.

Vader: Bring order to the galaxy.

Snoke: And fulfill your destiny!

If we do get a vision, Kylo could get glimpses of the chaos of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, etc. and then maybe glimpses of a future where Kylo brings “peace” and “order” to the galaxy. Shots of the First Order, Star Destroyers over planets, confronting/killing Luke, etc.

One big benefit is that it elaborates on Kylo’s motivations for turning to the dark side, which we never really get in TFA. He didn’t just turn to the dark side because he was a bad seed or something. He at least had a reason for turning, which he thought would help the galaxy. It also lines up well with Palpatine’s reveal in TROS.

I mean, it’s clear Kylo was seduced by the dark side; even in the original trilogy, all we get is that Vader was seduced by the dark side. Not saying that the “why” or “how” doesn’t matter, it’s that “seduced by the dark side” is enough of an explanation.

Sure, I’m not arguing that. I mean, they literally say Kylo Ren/Ben was seduced by the dark side. I’m just suggesting that we could elaborate on that a little. I am not really sure what you’re trying to say. Did you bring that up because you don’t think I should? You think I’m suggesting the movie doesn’t make it clear that he was seduced by the dark side?

In the film, Kylo wants to finish what Vader started, but we don’t really get an explicit answer for that. Kill the Jedi, bring order to the galaxy, etc., I’m guessing is what’s being inferred, as you like to say. So, if that’s the case, I’m just adding a bit more to that.

Has anyone tried to imply DJ was always the Master Codebreaker Maz was sending them after in TLJ?

My reasoning: we’re told there’s only one man with that set of skills, which is why they have to go to this one specific place which was highly inconvenient for them… then they happen to find a second man with the exact same set of skills by absolutely coincidence in a place they randomly end up in nearby. It just strains credulity past breaking point for me.

My two ideas of how to achieve it:

  1. Somehow add a red plomme bloom to DJ’s introduction in the prison cell. Maybe he uses it to pick the lock instead of the hairclip thing he uses. Then, you can dub in Finn and Rose yelling “The Master Codebreaker!” to each other when he leaves the cell (their faces are luckily obscured in the wide shot where they turn and speak excitedly to each other).
Pros: you retain everyone saying the phrase “red plomme bloom,” which I find funny and endearingly Star-Wars-y, especially when Finn and Rose declare it with such gusto. It’s a less intrusive change to the rest of the movie.
Cons: would require at least one VFX shot from one of the visual wizards here to add the plomme bloom brooch in place of the hairclip/key/thing.

  2. Remove reference to the red plomme bloom, the Master Codebreaker is just someone they have to find on Canto Bight.
    Pros: relatively simple to implement.
Cons: you lose the “red plomme bloom” references, and requires cutting the movie more intrusively. You’d also have to find a way for them to declare that DJ is the Master Codebreaker to each other when he breaks out of the cell.

The first of the two could also work given the last time we see the Master Codebreaker (or in this case the “”“Master Codebreaker”“”?) he seems to kind of just be an ordinary asshole.

Yeah, when I first saw the movie in cinemas, I assumed he was misdirection for that exact reason, and this dude in the cell with them was going to turn out to be who Maz was talking about the whole time.

Besides, you think Rose is gonna wanna work with one of those casino fellows she keeps complaining about? Humble prison guy is much more approachable to her.

When D’Arcy is updating the crew about what has happened, after she says all their leadership except for Leia is gone, the crew moans and groans a little. During this time, we could add a new voice line or two from random crew members asking questions like:

“How did they find us?”
“There must be a spy!”
“What are we going to do?”

I’d happily do one of these, but for it to feel like chatter, we’d probably want three unique voices. Is this something that’s really wanted? If so I can put it together.

This is fantastic. If someone gets me the isolated dialogue, I can put some effects on them to fit the vision vibe

Sheesh this idea is incredible. I would love to see a mockup of it. If someone could get all the isolated audio, then I think this would be one of my favourite inclusions. It feels like a way to subtly mock Kylo.

For the Resistance/spy lines, I feel like we could get some other volunteers. ThisIsCreation is helping us with an alien dub for TROS, so maybe he’d be willing to record some lines for that too? Faraday might also be game. It’d be nice to throw in a female voice for variation, but it wouldn’t be necessary.

I’m glad you guys like the Kylo’s dark side vision idea! I wasn’t really coming at it from the direction of mocking Kylo, but I think the fact Kylo was being manipulated would become more apparent by the time we get to TROS. I think it is a great way to get insight into how and why Kylo joined the dark side. I like the idea of Kylo thinking he is doing the right thing in his own mind. Kylo has been led to believe that the Jedi perpetuate a cycle of war that has been going on for a thousand generations. He believes it is his destiny to end the cycle, but he must sacrifice everything to be strong enough to fulfill it.

I also think it makes it interesting that both Kylo and Luke have come to the conclusion that the Jedi Order must end, but they have two different ideas for what should replace it. Unfortunately that doesn’t really go anywhere, and we seem to end with no new insight into how things will be different, but what can you do?

But like y’all said, I guess it is just a matter of isolating those lines and working from there.
