35mm Print of Eyes Wide Shut on Ebay!!

There is a 35mm full print of Eyes Wide Shut up on Ebay currently. It’s up for bid with just 3 days remaining, at around $100 as of right now, it’s from Italy.

I know there’s currently a project for a 35mm scan of The Shining, so this would be cool to explore as well and see Eyes Wide Shut in its open matte beauty.

I don’t know any other details on it, but if someone wants to check it out, it’s up there now!

I don’t know anything about scanning or anything like that, or even how to to about getting that done. I could buy/pitch in for all of the reels and if anyone knows how to get this done, I could ship to them.

I’ve never seen this movie but I could chip in to help out if it means seeing a better version than whatever is out there now. Let me know

I’m thinking about purchasing it. If I win the bid, it’ll probably be somewhere under $200. If I do get the negatives, I’ll keep updating. My main interest in this preservation/scan is seeing the film in its original 4:3 aspect ratio in HD.

I will absolutely pitch in. I see this every year on 35mm in NYC (well except this past one) and it always amazes me how much more LUSH the film is compared to the Bluray. The colors just POP.

Great to hear!

As far as the print, I’m waiting to get pictures of the scans as the seller only has pictures of the cans and reels. I need to see if it’s in 4:3 and doesn’t have faded colors. As far as bidding, it’s at around $120 right now, and two other people are bidding and I have been outbid.

Once I get the pictures I’ll let you know if I want to go forward. Anyone who has interest in this, funding would be greatly appreciated!

I won the auction and am sending the print to a lab soon I hope. If anyone is interested in funding, private message me.

My current goal is to reach $500 (for reels, scanning, shipping costs etc.) I currently have a few people willing to pitch in around $30. PM me if you want to see Eyes Wide Shut in a whole new light and are interested in funding this project!!

Update on Eyes Wide Shut 35mm Print-

The Film has been scanned and is being sent to me and an early collaborator soon. Unfortunately, the scan turned out to be 1.85:1, not 1.33:1. Although, I looked at a preview of the scan and the colors, grain and all look truly beautiful. This project was a bit more expensive than I expected, though.

The total costs of obtaining the reels, scanning, shipping, drives etc. was around $962.

So far, I have around 9-10 interested donators who have given around $30 each. If anyone is interested in seeing this 35mm scan and funding this project, private message me.

So far, I have around $230. Let’s reach the goal of $730. Private message me if interested. This scan is definitely worth seeing!

According to the IMDB, there was a crew reflection digitally removed before it hit home video, and an audio change in one scene.

Old but that boom mic removal applies to specifically the original R-rated US DVD release, it had a few “tweaks” done to it to accommodate for it being open matte

Whenever the movie finally got a widescreen DVD release the alterations were gone

Not too sure about the audio cause both the soundtrack (which I hear is uncensored) and the movie sounded exactly the same in the scene they’re referring to

Could you post frames of your print?

These are apparently 35 mm. frames. Different colors than blu-ray and DVD. Very grainy…

Speaking of the censored version, it’s come to my attention it’s streaming on Tubi. I don’t think there was ever a physical HD release of the R rated cut, so maybe a preservation of those scenes is in order before somebody realizes the mistake, and swaps it out for the unrated?

Where is your physical print at the moment? Could you send me a private message please, if you can let me know how/where it was scanned (in private) and if we can see a preview of the scan it’d be possible to decide if it’s worth doing a re-scan.
