Was thinking about the DOTF script today again, and while there are many things I don’t like about the script, I really wish we could’ve gotten it’s ending.

Rise of Skywalker’s ending as the benefit of leaving the further adventures of our heroes open to our imagination, I think DOTF present a really beautiful finality to the story. Rey, Finn and Rose all lost their families, or barely had one to begin with. So, getting to see them be a family for the next generation would’ve been really nice to see. So much of Rey’s trauma and struggles with her identity came from being abandoned by her family, so to have her ensure these children go through the same struggles would’ve really brought her character full circle, I think.

Something I’m glad we didn’t get, in retrospect, was the attack on Coruscant. Although it would’ve been cool to see the planet in this new context, I think the Resistance attacking the capitol would’ve aged poorly after the Capitol Riots on January 6th here in the US. I’m pretty sure the big ship that hovers over the planet (that Rose programs to fly into the sun) is even referred to as the Capitol. Yeahhh.

Honestly, I think some combination between the DOTF and TROS scripts could’ve turned out nicely, taking the best from both.
