I think even if we could find the start of a sentence. Something like, “I don’t-“, “We need to-“, “You have to-“. Then we can have Rey interrupt her.

So the final scene will be Rey walking off into the sunset, her clothes in a neat pile on the ground?

Duracell would be proud.

So she’d be n&#%?

Hmmm good idea.

I can’t go back through the lines again right now to see if this is possible but I’m pretty sure this might be.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Rey wearing dark clothes throughout the film, then end on her wearing white? Like Luke in his all black ensemble and the white flap at the very end. Black and dark gray colour clothes in Star Wars thematically means evil, or conflicted at the very least. What’s the message of her wearing some darker colours at the end of this? sorry if im missing something.

Edit: Is it that she’s now okay about her evil Palpy heritage, and wearing dark at the end is like a badge of honour? “Here are my scars, but I’m really a Skywalker at heart.”? Is that necessary? I’d prefer it if “Rey Skywalker.” was her first time wearing all white in the film, if things were different.

I personally would prefer black for most of the film and white for the final scene, but inverting it is waaay less work. To me what’s important is seeing a visual signifier that she’s moved on to the next chapter in her story. I think you can interpret it a few ways where there’s some meaning that makes sense to see black at the end (she’s come to terms with the darkness within her, it’s mourning clothes, she’s emulating Luke Skywalker in the Mandalorian, black looks cooler, etc.). I actually think having either the wraps be white and the rest black (or vice versa) would look great too.

This is what Marvel put Luke in after ROTJ:

I suppose you do wear black to a funeral. Although who knows if that’s the case in the Star Wars galaxy as well.

Personally, if we are actually considering this, I would recommend grey. It would signify a refined stance on the Jedi philosophy, because clearly Luke repeated the mistakes of the past.

Cool, hopefully we can find something.

I think there are two or three other places that could work well with extra bits of Leia dialogue.

When Rey says she’s gonna run the training course, as Leia hands her the saber, Leia could say, “Good”, “Alright”, “Here”. I think a funny line would work nicely here, since Leia gives her a little smirk, but I’m not sure what could fit.

I think another place that could use a Leia line would be when Rey is back at the base, and she just starts talking to Leia, who we don’t realize is off-screen until it cuts to her. In that first shot of Rey rummaging through her bag, you could have Leia say, “What happened?”, “What’s wrong?”, or even “Tell me”, which he says twice in that conversation, later on during their Exegol conversation, and again in TFA, when C-3PO tells her R2 has good news.

I was going to suggest having Leia say something like, “Here”, “It’s yours” when Leia gives Rey the saber before she leaves, but I think in this scene at least, the less that is said, the better it is.

They were working with scraps for Leia, and much more than we have. I am open to mock-ups but I don’t imagine most of these being improvements. I’ve been wrong before and it doesn’t hurt to try and see.

About the end scene, black would make sense for a funeral but it still feels like it signals the wrong thing. I agree grey might be nice, but it’s still the same outfit and I feel it’d be obvious it was merely recolored. I’d really like to see a return to what she wore at the end of TFA and most of TLJ, really. Or just something new. I imagine they had her revert to her scavenging looks in order to fit with footage of hugging Carrie from TFA. I really think that’s most of the reason why.

My stance on revising fan edits.

@Hal 9000 The scavenger clothing is part of who Rey is, why would we want to take that away?

However Poppasketti,
I think you need to… reflect on that clip you posted. If you catch my drift… 😉

Outrageous shiny floors. Who works in such a place? Can you imagine being the person who spends all day buffing that floor only to have some rebels muck it up?

Isn’t this the entire lifestyle Rey wanted to run away from and associated with her being worthless? 😕

It feels like a regression to me. She changed her look once she moved forward from her Jakku days, and she appeared more grown up with that look. She looks younger with her hair and clothing this way, although that’s subjective.

Alright so I have a sample of Leia saying the following: “We have to keep…”

Obviously if she finished her sentence she would say “we have to keep on training”. I think she could say that beginning part and then have Rey cut her off.

Ooo, nice find Jar Jar! Hopefully it will fit in well with the rest of the scene.

Oh yeah no, I wasn’t suggesting anyone actually try to recolour her clothes for the rest of the movie lol. I was just trying to say that the idea of a clothes colour swap only really works if it’s going from dark to light colours in Rey’s case. A whole new outfit incorporating some darker colours into the design would be it. Because I don’t think there’s much design space to add colour to it without it, yeah, clearly looking recoloured. And on top of that, it still doesn’t work right thematically.

If she turned evil in the end, then I’d be all for her wearing dark.

Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!

Ah, sorry Jar Jar. I thought you meant the other scene; my bad. I think Leia says “I know” at some point. So you could play it like:

“I have to go to Exegol.”
“No. [They look at each other] I know-”
“I don’t want to go without your blessing but I will.”

Maybe she’s saying “I know you want to fight [blah blah blah]”? Just an option.

And Hal, could we do a reverse deepfake on Rey? Keep her face, and just simulate her clothes and hair from TLJ? lol

So here the scene is with “we have to keep…”. I feel like it needs the word “on” in order to work properly. Doesn’t help that her mouth clearly doesn’t move:

Something like what you recommended might work better Sherlock. Something short like “I know”. Anyways, here is the line from the above video if somebody thinks they can do better than me:

If a suitable extra line for Leia is not found, I think a viable alternative might be to just shorten Rey’s silent reaction by maybe 50% so that she responds quicker.

Smart thought Neerb! I like the line, but I see what you’re saying Jar Jar. Maybe a combo of an extra word, plus shortening the silence might help sell it.

I also worry about the inflection 100% fitting the new scene, but maybe the right levels and such could help it blend. And like Neerb said, if nothing works you could just have Rey respond a little more quickly.

EDIT: I also wonder if you could slow the line down ever so slightly so it doesn’t feel so rushed.

Yeah anything to remove the super awkward silence would help. So if this doesn’t pan out I’d like to see some trimming of the staring.

I’ll look into trying to find her saying “on”.

Well I don’t think that’s the reason, they could have put her in anything and it wouldn’t have been an issue for them (since the new outfit is quite different regardless).

Anyways one of the reasons I’d advocate for having the wraps be a different color than the rest is that it gives off more of a Jedi robes impression, at least to me. Like, her outfit in the back half of TLJ is essentially the same as her scavenger outfit, but having the two different colors accentuates the wraps. It’s a fancy new look, and I think thematically it makes sense that she’s accepting who she is which includes a bit of darkness.

This might seem kinda needless, but there’s something else I think might be worth touching in that scene.

After Rey says “I don’t want to go without your blessing, but I will,” we get a reaction shot of Leia look up at her. I think that shot would be better as the very last shot of the scene, after Rey says “It’s what you would do.” I think that better sells that Leia/Carrie is actually there reacting to Rey/Daisy, and that Rey’s words are why Leia returns the saber in the next scene.

Looks like Hal actually removed Rey’s line about her running the training course. RIP.

Also I can’t seem to find a good source of “on” from the Lego files.

I’ve tried this before. It works decently, though I’m still not sure if I’m going to do it.

Is there a particular issue that makes you unsure?
