Info: Anyone Have The Fight Club Workprint? Or any workprints for that matter?

 (Edited)

Since the last request I made got a bite (which I am in the process of paying it forward big time on at the moment), I figured I would cast the line out there again on something that was mentioned a while ago, but nothing came of.

Just wondering if anyone out there has the Fight Club workprint on disc and if they could make it available as either a PiF movement or via the torrents or newsgroups. I’ve heard that there are many differences in this cut and that it features scenes that weren’t even made available on the 2 disc set that Fox put out.

I’m also interested in any other extended cut workprints that anyone might have available. I have some (BS Dracula, Jay & Silent Bob SB, Alien 3) on tape, but not DVD (and don’t currently have the capability to cap in good quality). It would be cool if someone could start a preservation movement to get some of these workprints on disc. (Trust me, if I had the tools, I would do it.)

If this has already been discussed elsewhere, I apologize. It’s just that the Jason Goes to Hell and American Werewolf In Paris posts got me thinking that there are a LOT of these floating around out there and it would be great if we could get a collection going.

I've got the workprint of Fight Club on VHS. I haven't transferred it to DVD yet, but I've been meaning to for a while. I'll post here once I do (which won't really be soon, the tape is at home and I'm at skool).

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Could you post a list, Sammy?

I don't see the point of the VHS Alien 3 Workprint. Isn't the workprint included on the Alien Quadrilogy Box set? Also, if you're interested in a copy of AWiP then PM me.

I was more just stating it as an example. Trust me, that Quadrilogy box set was like a warm blanket that didn't leave my side for months after it was released. LOL.

Man, I'd like to have the Fight Club workprint proper.

I have the Thief and the Cobbler workprint ... classic animated movie that Disney ripped off to make Aladdin and then butchered beyond recognition .... I reedited the movie to director's cut specifications a long time ago, but I keep meaning to do it again in a nice shiny DVD way.

The Special Edition Alien3 in the Quadrilogy set was put together to be as close to Fincher's original intent as possible without his actual participation in the reconstruction.

The upside is they finished all the sfx and it went from my least favorite in the series to possibly the top 2... Or at least pretty damn good (before the SE I believed Alien3 was unwatchable and almost didn't buy the boxset because of it). I was amazed how much better it came out.

Now how about that rave of a review for RESURRECTION that I know you have in side of you.

Good for you, but that really isn't adding anything to this thread. You've been making a lot of really pointless posts tonight, and I emplore you (and I'm sure others would like this to) to please make your posts relevant to the topic at hand. Just because this thread mentions "Fight Club" doesn't mean we have to know that you've never seen it.

What is the Jay & Silent Bob one like? Is it mostly just the deleted scenes intact, or is there a lot of other material in it? I'd love to see the Jersey Girl "extended" early cut, since it supposedly was much longer than the released version, and remains a relatively barebones DVD thus far. (although, it may see the light of day now that Clerks X and the Mallrats 10th Anniversary cuts have come out)

oooooohhhhhhhhhhh! I'd LOVE to see that! I discovered the story to that on a website about 2 years ago, and it's fascinated me ever since....

I have a restoration I did myself in a dirty analog way 5 years ago, but I can't really transfer it to DVD on my recorder because of Macrovision issues.

I'll do it properly again soon enough.

I'm actually waiting for a widescreen DVD of the butchered Miramax cut.

There's surprisingly little extra stuff in the J&SBSB workprint. The only things I can remember were actuall things that weren't on the DVD: a shorter edit of the hooker scene (I'd assume it was their attempt to make it pass R) and an extension of the showdown outside the restaurant that was pretty funny. I'm going to be done a fan edit of the flick soon that reinstates all of the deleted scenes from the DVD, plus the showdown extension that I'm gonna take from my VHS.

The extended version of Jersey Girl actually does have a lot of extra material, I think around 40mins worth, but I may be pulling that figure out of my ass. Either way, though, it is something that Kevin does want to release at some point.

The J&SBSB workprint is mostly just full of different music cues. There is some deleted material, but it was covered in the supps in the 2 disc. Kevin is usually good at getting that stuff out there.

Will this be dual-layer?

It can be, if I invest in dome DL DVDs, which I haven't done before because I have no money. It probably should be, considering it's about 153mins long (if I rememeber correctly). I guess we'll find out when I actually make the transfer.

Sounds very cool.

The extended Jersey Girl is a likely release, but I'd also love to see Dogma with the deleted scenes reinserted. It was screened in a longer cut, and then sliced up for time, and I'm pretty sure Smith was happy with the final cut. But, it would be neat to see a sort of recreation of that initial longer version.

Yeah, KS is pretty good about getting the deleted goodies released.

I kinda did this, too. I titled it "Dogma: The Long-Ass Edition" and just threw all of the crappy-looking deleted scenes that were on the DVD back into the flick. I didn't pay attention to music cues or anything. It looks like crap, because the final 2hr 51min cut was compressed to a single-layer DVD and I also vertically stretched the deleted scenes to make the whole thing anamorphic. So yeah, it looks like crap, but I just did it for myself (hence why I didn't take more care with it, in terms of music cues, etc).

I've got a bootleg of the Bladerunner "Denver/Dallas" workprint, recorded by camcorder at a screening of it in 1990. Despite being a camcorder bootleg, it's decent quality and definitely watchable. There was just one moment during the film where some idiot stood up in front of the screen to walk out of the theater.

I've considered posting it to myspleen but wanted to wait and see if someone else posted it first.

I say post it. I know it's not on myspleen and from what I can remember, there were people that were wanting this. I think I remember seeing it on Rikter's list as a "Trade Gone Bad" title. I, for one, would LOVE to see this.

What DOES the workprint of Fight Club actually have?
Btw, if your source is VHS save your money and use a SL DVD. Encode the video at 1/2 D1, you won't gain any quality using higher resolution because of your source, but you can save the bitrate to get the full film on a single layer.

Can I have a shorter cut of Jersey Girl?

Um, I always did kinda like A4 (at least better than the theatrical cut of 3), but of course I'm pretty much a sucker for anything Joss Whedon writes.
Go watch it again and imagine some Firefly cast members in it and you'll like it much better.

Sorry about that. I just got a post from zion warning me about that. Just letting you know it won't happen again.
