What is the point of adding in Palpatine’s line, “Your coming together will be your undoing…”?

Absolutely no reason other than I like the line. lol

Don’t worry though, nothing became of it. Was just a fun idea I had.

I think “fanboys who can’t let go” is the opposite of this. The fact that this is all in-service of a community effort to turn something they didn’t like into something they do (or, well, tolerate) purely for the sake of their own personal enjoyment is inspiring.

Agreed. I think RL and I were just having a little fun. If we didn’t agree with you, none of us would be here! Although it is becoming clearer that many of us our losing our minds. Maybe one day when I can stop wiping down bags of potato chips with lysol, things will be in better perspective.

No, I was serious…

Haha, not really, but after all of these years sometimes I do ask myself what the point is in all of this effort. But it is just like any other hobby, really. We do it because we enjoy it. And it is nice to hear the positive perspectives!

Anyway, I think I’ll get started on the puppets this weekend. Whenever I get to filming, I think I’ll film the puppets separately, which will make it easier for editors to place and time them however they please.

You’re right, it’s like any hobby that requires working together as a group. We build camaraderie and work toward our common goal.

That said, I can’t wait to see what you’ll cook up.

The seams are showing as I listen to “We’ve become a dyad in the force” more and more. Something is still off, and I’m sorry for being so picky.

It’s that he’s saying “we’ve becom- eh dyad in the force, Rey” and it just sounds cut up. When he should be saying “we’ve become ah dyad in the force” to sound natural. It’s the “a” pronunciation that’s messing it up, maybe? (Is there audio of him saying “a” in an “ah” way, lol.) “Become” getting cut up is maybe screwing with me?

I realize you guys are extremely limited here, and it’s something little and good enough as is, so I’m sorry for even complaining about this. If this is the best way to do it, and alternatives sound bad, then it’s fine as is.
But if it is possible to fine tune it even more, then these are my thoughts. Something about it is bugging me the more I play it over.

(Maybe I should just… stop doing that?)

Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!

Wow I just listened to it with earbuds in for the first time and I agree 100%

For some reason it’s like listening to a completely different audio file compared to my phone and laptop speakers.

Not sure what to say anymore. If we think it’s such an important change to include, then perhaps we can ignore this. But I’m having a hard time with it.

EDIT: For some reason it sounds much better in sherlock’s original audio: https://streamable.com/dwfbr9
Does it sound better because it isn’t as loud in that? Probably just my mind playing tricks on me because of the visuals.

The line sticks out since it sounds a bit different, but it also sticks out since its cramming more words than the “space” of the original line.

I dunno if it is realistic to do cleanly.

That would be awesome, dude. Are you gonna film them on greenscreen? Honestly can’t wait to see what you make 😄

I absolutely agree! There are definitely some characters in this forum. I’ve been really enjoying the huge dopamine highs when great ideas start snowballing and becoming physical scenes. This forum has really pushed my skills and ideas to places I wouldn’t have dreamt of a year ago.

Exactly.

So I suppose this question is for everyone else to chime in on: do we think it’s worth it to include this line change while making it sound augmented/strange at the same time? I know what my answer is at this point (I’d rather not have it).

Of course, Hal kinda has the final say.

Yes, so editors should be able to key them out rather simply!

I think the dyad line is sticking out because we are focusing so much on it. I think if added back in to the movie with the music playing in the background, it wouldn’t be something of notice.

@jarjar - in the original clip you posted the sound of the wind and the score helps hide the blemishes (outside of the clipping)

Hmmm. I think what would help here is for your version of the audio to be placed into the scene like that. I think that might help out some of the people on this forum who still don’t think it sounds convincing enough. Because like you said, it hides some of the blemishes, and you said yours shouldn’t have that clipping, either.

A couple of things on The Line™:

It’s not really a matter of cramming more words into the same tight space - if you line them up, the new line does last longer, but we can fudge that since Kylo’s lips don’t move - the problem is just that we’re taking voice clips from like 3 or 4 different sources. Cutoffs between syllables don’t line up, inflections are different, timing is off…getting it to flow perfectly is next to impossible.

It will, however, sound better in the context of the film than as an isolated audio clip, for a number of reasons. First, the clip is only center channel audio; the full thing will have louder music and sound effects, which will help to mask the seams. The image will also help to distract viewers. (Which is why I shared it originally as a video clip.) Also, people aren’t going to be listening to the one line 30+ times on repeat, trying to pick out the holes. Quick half second, and it’s gone.

I think, conceptually, it’s worth keeping it in even if it’s not quite 100% perfect. What it adds to the continuity and the nuance of the film is worth a slight blip, in my opinion. I can definitely twiddle with it more though, and see if I can make it any tighter.

I know I’m kinda breaking the chain here but can I just say that what you’ve done already with this edit Hal is simply amazing and astonishing and on top of that what the rest of you are still coming up with is turning my strong dislike for this film into a weird appreciation so I thank you for that so much because now with this edit I can do a sequel and saga rewatch without dreading getting to TROS.

Author
Time

Also, Creation, thank you for catching that pop! The word “We’ve” was actually layered from a couple of different sources (from “We’re), so it was hard to spot the blip between the different tracks.

I do think it should stay “Dyad in the Force” though. At least then we know that it’s some weird Force thingy, rather than a “…what did he say? A Diode? Huh?”

Honestly, after he says “A Dy-,” I didn’t do any other edits. If “in the Force” doesn’t flow right, we’ll have to blame that on the original sound editors.

He’s saying “come” in ‘become’ too softly? But you did say that was intentional to have it flow better. So, I dunno. I guess it is impossible to nail it right. I’d love to hear the full 5.1 audio, I really hope that does it for me!

The “come” part was actually something that I re-pitched. I can play around with making that part louder though! Thanks for the suggestion. And I used the 5.1 mix on the Steamable clip I posted.

I totally think if it were in the theatrical it would’ve flown past me with no issue. But then fanboys online would hone in on it and present it as proof that the movie had been messed with and changed all over the place sloppily.

So if you don’t mind continuing to tweak it, I will be glad to use it as long as it feels pretty much seamless in full context.

And just to splash a little more gasoline on the lovefest, none of my edits would be shit without the fan editing community going pretty much all the way back. You can trace phantom menace edits, for example, as though they were biblical texts or fairy tales with families of variants that can be chained along. I’ve said it before, when it comes to Star Wars I feel more like a curator (for the prequels) or a ringleader (for these).

My stance on revising fan edits.

I agree on the “don’t worry about it” front. We’re all super honed in on it right now, but in the middle of the movie with other things (and other audio channels) to focus on it’ll just fly by. I hadn’t been paying direct attention to this thread and the version shared earlier seemed flawless to me. You can get away with a lot with voice editing.

As a slight tangent to the Dyad stuff…

I was feeling inspired by MR’s inclusion of Han’s dice in this scene (which I abolutely love, MR): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueu_fV8lbac&t=6m47s But I wanted to take it one step further. The goal being both to connect backwards to TLJ through the dice, and also to paint Kylo in more layers before his ultimate redemption.

I’ve put together the following clip, and I’d love to know what you think. For now, I’ve included an introductory shot from earlier on, and then I do a quick dissolve to a later point in the film where the edit itself would take place; I just thought it would be valuable to have this context in mind when watching the edit.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QhWobZwNLY48z7lDrsKcqSNNTlUHlS2W/view?usp=sharing

The intention is, after the Death Star duel, we should show the dice again before Han shows up, exactly as MR does in his video.

Heck, Kylo talks to Palps in a hallway, then leaves through a door; and the next time we see him, he re-enters what looks like an identical hallway. What was he doing in that other room, I wonder…?

I was testing a version that uses shots from the “Kylo visits the Falcon” deleted scene from TFA, and the shots fit nicely in terms of framing and camera work; but I would need help with the color masking, and someone would also have to help add the red cracks to Kylo’s helmet.

Damn, nice idea. With a shot of the helmet from the back this would be amazing.
