Star Wars: Deleted Magic (Released) — Page 16

I get asked this question about 47 times a day. For the time being I have given up doing Deleted Magic for Empire or Jedi. There just isn't enough actual deleted footage that has leaked from either film. Just boring "how we made the effects" type stuff.

Jambe Davdar is doing something similar for Empire though.

If I ever do anything for Empire or Jedi, it would involve hiring voice actors to record audio versions of the deleted scenes. I have never found the right cast to make that work.

I AM very likely going to do a Classic Edition of Empire though. As it happens, I'm doing some work on that right now.

I recommend Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Perry King, Ann Sachs, Brock Peters, and Joshua Fardon.

Brock Peters has sadly passed away.

You forgot my former teacher Arye Gross. =)
Author

Yes, I know about Brock Peters; one of the greats. And how could I forget the caucasian Lando?

What I was getting at is you could use the Radio Dramas as a tool to recreate missing scenes.
Author
Time
The radio dramas do not incorporate deleted scenes from Empire or Jedi. Empire and Jedi are based closely on the actual films, not their screenplays.
Author
Time
Well if you wanted to expand the format a bit considering the lack of material.

One scene I had in mind, for example, would be the conversation between Vader and Palpatine at the beginning of the RotJ radio drama. A "live action" version of this could be edited together from the ESB hologram scene (either version). Palpatine's lips wouldnt sync-up the whole time, but it might be something fun to experiment with. Then of course there is the whole scene with Luke contructing his lightsaber.

My ESB priject is coming along. It doesn't however look at the Deleted Scenes due to the lack of footage available.

It is instead a 'boring' look at how the movie was made - thanks ocp!!

Well I find it interesting anyway!

Things are moving slowly at the moment due to the new arrival in my family. I am away all next week but intend to get it finished as soon as I can.

Now that I have a PAL version of the OT ESB I should be able to get it finished in the next month or so. Providing I find a way of editing and changing nappies/diapers at the same time!

Ever so slightly off-topic but of possible interest to those "must have everything" folk out there is an ebay auction for something called "STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS "

I don't think it needs its own thread so I posted here. If anyone objects to this post being here, I will delete it.

It looks to me like Deleted Magic meets Forgotten Scenes plus a bit extra. I will tell you when my PAL copy arrives.

Does anyone know any more about this DVD??

When I told OCP about this he said.............

That looks like something new, though I'm sure he
took material and ideas from T'Bone's site. Weird. I
have no idea. It's not nearly as bad as The Forgotten
Scenes from what I can see, but not essential viewing.

STAR WARS fans – this is the documentary you’ve never seen about the STAR WARS you don’t know!

NOW THIS HIGHLY ACCLAIMED FAN DOCUMENTARY IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN NTSC FORMAT FOR U.S. FANS!

STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS is a fan-made documentary and the result of sixth months research, editing and a lot of hard work. It follows the evolution of STAR WARS Episode IV – A New Hope from the famous ‘lost cut’ to the dvd release of 2004.

Using rare footage and information from sources as diverse as 1970s television broadcasts, long deleted videos, archive tapes and the internet, STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS recreates the famous lost scenes from Episode IV in full screen video with sound with full explanations as to how they fit into the original narrative.

The “Original Jabba” scene alone uses footage from no less than eight different sources and is skilfully knitted together to present the full scene as it would have played if George Lucas had abandoned the idea of an alien Jabba.

From the ‘lost cut’ of Episode IV to the Special Edition of 1997 and the even further enhanced dvd release of 2004, this fascinating and well-crafted documentary contains countless clips and facts following the various versions of the film – complete with a never-before seen split-screen comparison between the 1977 and 1997 versions of the film, highlighting the obvious and subtle differences.

This documentary is a labour of love and it’s time to share it with fellow fans. I know you’ve probably never seen it before because it’s all my work – I’m the writer, editor and producer of this DVD. I say “probably” never seen it before because a cut-down version of my work ran in the foyers of certain ODEON CINEMAS during the release of REVENGE OF THE SITH – that version was full of corporate idents and was incomplete – this version is finished and tailored for fans!

This is a not-for-profit venture – hence the low price – the fee charged covers the cost of the disc and packaging, wear-and-tear on equipment and time spent on duplication.

LOL! Hell, I guess I should make a deleted scenes DVD. If this guy can spend six monhts of research and put one out, imagine what twenty years of obsession could create. Then again, I already have Deleted Magic so I think I'll stick with that.

Hey, ocp, by the way. Your narration in the trailer, is... well it made me crack up, hearing your imitation of that over-dramatic announcer guy!
Author
Time
Heh. Holdover from my comedy days. I was embarrassed of that, so I changed it to a calmer but equally embarrassing narration for the DVD.

Not sure. I'm from the UK, but can play both PAL and NTSC. I think the listing was for the NTSC version.
How do i check when I get it?

You will get the PAL version then.

If I recall it was PAL by default for the UK and NTSC for other non-PAL areas.

Has anybody else got the NTSC version for our US readers to view???

As a bit of feedback on my earlier post, I have now got STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS

It does have deleted scenes but it is not a rip off of Deleted Magic or Forgotten Scenes (as was first suspected) and would be of interest to anyone who likes those two titles.

There are trailers I have never seen before, Wookie Groomer style split screen viewing comparing various scenes of 1977/2004 - 1997/2004 and well laid out written narrative.

Some have asked what the text on the back of the covers ought to be. Well, here goes - my blurb for the film I guess.

"Deleted scenes.

Alternate footage.

A look behind the scenes at what didn't
make it to the final cut of the Star Wars trilogy."

-----

Deleted Magic
A film by Garrett Gilchrist

So you think you know all there is to know about the Star Wars trilogy? Now, go behind the scenes with this in-depth look about the scenes that didn't make it to the final cut of Star Wars.

"It's great! ... What a terrific edit and collating job and such very good quality reproduction!" - Garrick Hagon, "Biggs Darklighter"

"Absolutely one of the best things to come out of fandom ever." - Skot Kirkwood, starwarscutscenes.com

"Deleted Magic" is a feature-length documentary about the deleted scenes of the Star Wars trilogy, and a completely different way of looking at Star Wars. It deconstructs the film to show you how the movies we know and love really came to be. It is taken from footage, information and home videos officially released by Lucasfilm. The project combines alternate, deleted and making-of footage into a full-length film that gives you a new perspective on how the masterpiece we know as Star Wars was edited together.

In addition to rare deleted scenes like the Biggs Darklighter material, you'll get a sense of the "Lost Cut" of the film, a longer edit that didn't have finished voices or effects. Whether you're a casual viewer or you're a hardcore Star Wars fan and you think you've seen it all, you'll find this film is full of surprises.

"Deleted Magic" is an unofficial, not-for-profit research project, created in the truest spirit of fandom to be both informative and entertaining.
