Version 3 is out. Some nice changes and additions. Thanks, everyone! I hope DigMod and anyone else has fun going further with Rogue One, but I’m happy with this.

We’ll all have to meet up in ten years to edit Episode X: A New Destiny.

But yeah, I’ve really enjoyed working on the ST. Just feels good to all come together and really bring things to bear like we have.

I just finished downloading the new version and checked out the new changes. Thankfully the new Tarkin clips look far better to my eyes, and the other changes are pretty seamless too. One thing I caught though is that the line “We find Saw. We find your father” is still present on all the subtitles. But other than that this is awesome to see, and a great upgrade to V1 😄

I just watched this last night and really enjoyed it. Definitely my favourite structuring of Rogue One’s scenes to date, and those improved deepfakes really help too. I really liked the focus on Jyn’s POV, especially the removal of Cassian talking to Draven.

For my two cents I’d trim out the planet title text, since Star Wars tends to avoid them, but that’s super minor.

I think the only thing I missed in this version was the hint at “hyperspace tracking”, I thought that was a nice nod forward to TLJ.

I just checked and it’s there at 1:38:48. Funny thing I noticed, she mentions ‘hyperspace tracking’, which is a nod to TLJ, but also ‘navigational systems’, whick also seems like a nod to TRoS.

Any plans to update this with Burbin’s new and improved deepfake integrations? 😁

I look forward to it! I was never 100% satisfied with the non-shamook sources I used but it was a compromise to make it work. This new version brings every shot to the same quality, and it even improves the quality across the board. I’m so glad Shamook actually came in with the original sources.

Also, whenever you get around to updating it, it’d be a good oportunity to remove the excised line “We find Saw. We find your father” that was left in the subtitles.

Done, and available. Thanks to Burbin and Shamook for this material!

(I didn’t bother updating the DVD version, though, since it would have been a pain in the ass for something that in that format would likely not have been appreciable.)

Hey Hal, I was able to download the new version. and I was dismayed to find that once again there’s a turn to a slightly more green tint when my clips kick in. All this time I thought something was going wrong during the render so again I tried out different output settings to no avail…

Well I think I figured out what’s going on. I thought to compare the newest version of your edit to the one I use as the base for my clips (V2) on a section that’s not part of my clips, and lo and behold:

That’s a screencap from V2 on the left, and the same shot from V4 on the right. As it turns out this is the source of difference in color. Don’t know if you made any conscious changes but something altered the colors from V2 to V3/4, which causes my clips to stand out. V3/4 is more red overall while V2 is more green, I don’t know which are the original colors (looking at screencaps and Shamook’s clips it might be the more greenish tone) but whichever the case, jumping from one to the other is noticeable.

I could produce a version of the deepfake clips that match your new colors if you’d like, I’d just need the clips of the Tarkin scenes.

Dear Burbin, I worked on a little Hal/Blu-Ray hybrid for R1 and I believe Hal’s edit is a bit more red than the Blu-Ray, as opposed to your clips being on the green side.

Ah I see, well it’s good to know it’s not on my side. Thanks for corroborating.

Now to add a whilhem scream to finish … 😉
