I don’t know if it’s just me, but the new effects for the crackle saber are almost too subtle compared to what kewlfish was doing originally.

These are kewlfish settings with the opacity pushed up. It could be the particle layer that softens the edges?

I’m not sure what Hal is doing but I’m using a pitch and tone shift of Kylos Saber with Luke’s sound underneither. The panning of the sound it gonna be more had work than the crackling effect, IMO.

I can’t see the difference between a dark/navy blue and purple or blood red and woodland green. It’s a nightmare being a colour blind graphic designer.

Damn, just thought. I’m not sure if my source footage has the Skenera’s LUT added. Once these scenes are done it shouldn’t be an issue to switch them out if I make a mistake. (Be awake 25 hours and counting)

This is what I was wondering. Would definitely be best if you remove any LUT before exports.

You know what? Vote here on what craft Kylo should take to Exegol, and I’ll go with the winner.

Oooooooo that’s tough. No wrong answer, but…

Going with Vader’s TIE, because he might have had it kept in a restricted part of the hangar that ended up being better protected because of it? Also, it looks cooler.

“That’s not how the Force works!”

I think if the TIE Advanced was used, it would be cool to squeeze in a shot of one or two of them somewhere amongst the wreckage of the Death Star.

Did you see the new concept art of Kylo cutting throw Tie wreckage in the duel with Rey. It looked epic!

Yeah, it’ll try to remember for the next lot of scenes. I’m wondering how the LUT will change this effect.

Just to recap, tone down blue or lighten blue? And reduce the mist in the cave?

I did not! Did one of the concept artists share it on Twitter or something?

Reduce mist yes. The blue is hard to say without seeing the effect on an uncolor corrected shot. To me the shot looks overwhelmingly blue compared to the original, but I don’t know how much of that is added blue glow and how much is potentially the LUT.

Good practice in general is to do the effects on uncolor corrected footage, and then apply the LUT on a layer above both. Things can get weird if you change the order of operations, but also if you’re sharing the work it’s just better for generation loss if everyone applies the LUT on their end.

Hope that all makes sense!

As I hit 30 hours straight it doesn’t feel like I’m sleeping today either so I thought I’d work on this little scene. I’m not sure if you’ve changed it in your recent workprint Hal but I noticed you go from the Falcon in hyperspace to the Falcon coming out of hyperspace going left to right that feels a little weird. I thought I’d make this quick clip to break those shots up. I’m not even sure that even makes sense at this point HAHA!

JEDIT: It appears I muted the centre channel in rendering.

2:26 onward. It looks like Rey has a crackling Saber watching it on my phone. Haven’t checked on my monitor yet. Wish these shots happened.

Hard to tell if it’s actually crackling or if it’s just art interpretation of the glow. I think it’s the latter, since this looks close to the TROS final product and there isn’t any other known crackling art.

And concept art always looks more interesting than the final product, because drawing lets you get crazier than what camera/sets/props/actors/budget can. That pic is basically what happens in the movie, just not as cartoonish.

Did you not continue to the other pics? nothing like that was in the movie. They actually go inside DSII and fight.

Ah, I thought you were just referring to the initial art you linked.

Yeah, fighting inside would have been cool too. As for the blade, it’s definitely not crackling in those later pics.

Ooooh, that new shot for coming out of hyperspace at the start is awesome! Hope you can get some rest, though.

And to answer an earlier question, I shifted the pitch of a long sample of Kylo’s saber and basically move this sound around to match the saber’s movement and presence onscreen. It’s more subtle than Kylo’s sounds to match the more subtle visual effect. It relies on the original audio for swishes and swooshes.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Glad you liked it.

That’s cool. Are you using the pan feature for the sound? I can’t seem to find the pan option I used before. Is there a hotkey or menu I’m missing in premiere?

I’m so desperate to get this movie done so I can move on. It’s been over a year and I still have 5 major scenes to “Complete!”. 2 of my main VFX guys have Covid so it’s all down to me now. Being in the zone is close to sleeping, right? *insane laughter

Hehe…

Yeah it’ll be real good to get TROS done, and with it the entire saga. Boy.

I edit with six discrete channels, so I do manual pans by bringing sound in and out of those channels. I probably wouldn’t do it that was as a pro, but it’s what I’ve done so far and why change now?

Yeah, That’s what I usually do but I stumbled on a really easy pan option at the time I wasn’t doing sound. Can’t find it at all now. Would have been perfect for this part.

HAHA! That’s honestly not far off how I feel right now 😄

What if a Tie Advanced was placed behind that one shot of Finn and Janah inside the Death Star wreckage?

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

It wouldn’t really address the implausibility of the situation, but might be helpful nonetheless. If anyone would like to do this, I’d be happy to use it.

If Vader’s TIE wins the poll in a week, anyway.

The good thing about the Imperial Shuttle is that you can already see one in the wreckage, albeit a little rusty.

That is one thing that would be a nice addition to the shuttle, if we use that one. A little wear and tear on it. But I’m not complaining, it still is a nice change regardless.

I really wish there was any footage of Kylo arriving/roaming around the Death Star before the confrontation. The first time I saw the film I thought Kylo was either part of Rey’s vision or in another Force connection thing when he suddenly picks up the Wayfinder.
