It’s choppy, the lighting and shadows are off, the fluttering leaves in the air literally just appear out of now where and the the textures on everything are unrealistic. It sticks out really bad. I’m sorry … I just don’t get it…

Even if Hal decides not to use the Ajan Kloss base shot, I would love folks to continue working on it, as I think it could look decent and other folks might want to use it.

As much as I appreciate the idea, it just looks very obviously like a video game to me unfortunately.

I literally cannot tell the difference.

Note, I’m also someone who thought Tarkin in Rogue One looked amazing.

Agree on both accounts!

If you use video game footage, capture at whatever the highest frame rate the game/capture source allows, then have the editing program interpret the footage as 23.97/24fps. This will make it look slow-motion. Then speed it up and use optical flow. That should help get rid of some of the frame rate issues.

+1. I would also say that the capture should be done on a next-gen PC graphics card (or PS5 or Xbox Series X) with all of Battlefront II’s textures, film grain, ambient occlusion (etc…) maxed out (if possible. Does PS5 or XBox have a ray tracing patch for this game??).

In addition to my eyes immediately noticing the framerate being weird, the black values are very different in the game footage (I think a couple people have already chimed in with making it have more contrast, and darkening shadows).

The last major problem for me, (which possibly can’t be remedied) is that the textures on the various rock faces around the cave look spotty or low-res in certain areas, especially on the right side of the image. This rock looks so SMOOTH and CLEAN compared to other physical “rock” (styrene or otherwise) we catch glimpses of in Ajan Kloss scenes.

So, obviously I am real iffy on it, but I absolutely love the idea of even 2 seconds for the audience to breathe being added here.

Hey, everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I’ve been following this project for the past year or so.

First off, I just have to say what an INCREDIBLE job Hal and the rest of you have done on this! I never would’ve imagined that I would ever watch this film again since seeing it back in December 2019. However, the edits and improvements you all have made helps make this film much more watchable for me (and to others as well, I assume). Really shows how far fan dedication can go towards a franchise we all love!

Anyways, to add onto the “Mustafar Minute” discourse, I think the only thing that needs to be done is to maybe add some little laser fire on the ground in the “trees shot”. I think that would help the scene feel more alive and to help organically go into the next shot with Kylo battling the Mustafarians. I can’t remember if it has already been discussed or not but I think it would be the last puzzle piece to that shot IMO.

Anyways, I can’t wait to see what other edits and ideas you all have for this and I am eagerly awaiting for V2 as well as the “Rey Nobody” edit.

Why have we never considered adding laser bolts to that shot? Thank you for the idea sasquatch.

If you go to your post history, each post has a link url that leads to it in context. You can also right-click the chain link icon at the top right of any comment in a thread and click “Copy link location” to copy the link to that specific comment.

As for the detail standing out too much, I didn’t really notice a problem with it, but then again the whole video is kinda blurry on my screen (possibly due to watching the clip in Google Drive instead of downloading it).

Oh cool. I’m always on a cell phone but I’ll try the other option.

Yeah, I always have that issue with Google drive playback.

Thanks Hal. I’ll keep it as is then. 👍🏼

I think on the mobile version you can still hold your finger on the chain link icon to pop up a menu with “copy link address” as an option.

Looks great, Movies Remastered.

And I like the laser bolts idea!

You know what? Vote here on what craft Kylo should take to Exegol, and I’ll go with the winner.

Options:

  • Imperial shuttle. It makes logical sense, is seen to use hyperspace before onscreen, and is much more ‘believable’ to find one that would work amid the wreckage (similar to the original TIE in the original film).

  • Vader’s TIE. Symbolic/poetic value. One of a kind craft seems unlikely to be found and usable after presumably crashing into the second Death Star from the Executor.

Voting ends 2/13.

I voted with my heart on this one, although logical probably will dictate. Lol.

I think the shuttle looks pretty ridiculous, personally.

Hey Hal, whichever you go with for your edit, would you be willing to provide the “alternate” choice with the applied LUT? At least saved in a folder for access?

Shuttle makes most plausible sense to me, but it’s such an implausible scenario already, and TIE Advanced looks so much more iconic. Hard to decide…

The logic of going with the Shuttle works for me. But I can’t not love the symbolism of Luke’s X-Wing next to Vader’s TIE from a purely visceral fanservice standpoint! This is tough.

Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!

Easily Vader’s TIE for me, agreed that the shuttle looks out of place there and I like the symbolism of the TIE.

I have the clip saved, and the LUT, but not the clip with LUT already applied. Certainly could, though.

And I agree it’s a tough call, hence the poll!

Sounds all good Hal and understandable!

You forgot the titanic option … EVEN A TOUGHER CALL!
