I wish Rey’s return to Ach-to was overcast and grey looking to really add to the turmoil.
That would be a good look.
Man it would be a lot of work, but if someone could vfx some trees (doesn’t have to be a lot) near the castle, it could show “nature taking over” from it being unused for so long and help it blend in. Same goes with the “valley” at teh end of the shot to add more of a forest … which may not be as hard since it’s not a close up and lasts not too long? (Me saying that who has never done this before 😛)
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
That’s looking very good! The shot of the castle will hopefully look perfect once the lights in the windows are off and all that. And maybe after the shot’s colour is more finely tuned or something? I don’t like being so negative, but that shot looks a little more fakey CGI, compared to the following shot, and I’m not sure why. Maybe, yeah, it could use more trees to connect the new shots better.
Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!
Not sure what it is, but something about those Tie’s flying by the castle feels off.
Popsketti didn’t animate that new first shot if I’m correct?

Poppasketti did the TIE flyover the forest, and 21C Peasant did the first shot of the castle.
Good work on both of them, I can see the way to really help them “jive” together are the implementations of adding trees to the first and maybe more lava, if possible, with the fly over. That way they feel like they come from the same place. Probably adding some trees or a forest in the castle shot would be enough.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
Impressive, most impressive.
I agree the best approach would be striking a balance between Classic Mustafar (the castle and lava flows) and Healing Mustafar (the scorched forest). Is it possible to add a lava river to the forest shot or would it take way too much work? Maybe even some low-sounding rumble of lava or eruption far away could play after the action ends.
There actually are lava sounds in there already, although there’s the TIE sounds and music that make it hard to hear.
Right now I have all ‘streams’ synced to the changes that have been made for V2.
Things being waited on at this point:
That’s it, I think!
Hey Hal! - this is super nitpicky, but do you plan on updating DOTF to the higher quality Solo Deluxe Soundtrack version for V2? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KthNsU2_DAo
The soundtrack version is of course free of any slight dialogue-bleed/artifacts that might currently be present in V1. As I said… super nitpicky!
JEDIT: Ohh I just remembered as well - did the “Ben, come home” Leia line ever come to fruition?

I have a new updated edit/version with the new track,
Recut the whole track to fit the scenes pacing better, it also keeps the original in there, its about 50 seconds now and has a lot more emphasis on Duel Of The Fates, repeats twice but smoothly transitions together. I don’t think Hal is interested in updating the origianl version, but always good to get feedback.

I agree the motion of the TIEs in the castle shot feels slightly off. Though I imagine syncing the motion to the footage must be a nightmare since the camera’s very active.
I don’t think the line “Ben, come home” ever got to the place of sounding totally natural. I’m open to it but it’s not something I’ve clamored for.
That’s pretty nice, Cinefy! I do think that it’s better to go subtle, so you’re right that I will leave it as you got it prior.
I got some feedback from a few layman friends who agreed that the castle and forest shots feel natural and make for an improved opening.
I honestly feel that the only change the initial castle shot needs is the lava windows to be dimmed. I say this because the forest could begin further away from the castle.

I absolutely love this.
How soon do you think V2 will be out? Seems like were almost there, aside from desaturating Luke’s ghost again and all. I know it will still be some time until the Rey Nobody version is out, though.

I have no idea. We’ll have to see. V1 is still less than 3 months old.
Since you reminded me, I went ahead and replaced the DOTF snippet with the actual OST in higher quality. I put it in place where it was, and extended it backward to the beginning of the track.
What do you guys think? Too heavy?
I still personally think the music from the Darth Maul scene in Solo doesn’t really fit it all that much. DominicCobb used an instrumental version of Duel of the Fates for his edit. It actually wasn’t that bad.

Strong disagree. I think the Solo music works much better and feels less over the top.

I think this works great.
If Disney release the list of deleted scenes which are below this sentence, I would be very proud.
List of deleted scenes:
Would you add them if they do get released?
It’s impossible to say without seeing them. They may not be complete enough, have extremely temporary FX, or not fit in well pacing wise. It’s just hard to say, until you can see them.

Looks good to me as well.
