I downloaded a small clip someone did of an ESB menu that they are working on and it is awesome. I think it was on another thread on this board, but I can't be sure since I have subscribed to so many. Can anyone tell me who created this menu and what thread featured it?

Also, I was in contact with Dr. Gonzo. He was the one who created the Anamorphic set that there are torrents of. I offered him the missing ESB footage if he wanted to redo ESB, but he said he wasn't interested. He wanted to prove that his source was the first pressing of the Def. Collection that had the problem with the missing footage.

So that's that I guess.

"He was the one who created the Anamorphic set that there are torrents of."

I made an anamorphic version once, but the master was poor to begin with. Eventually, I'll make an anamorphic version of this set. Like Rik said, it looks great zoomed in, so there won't be too much loss of detail.

"I offered him the missing ESB footage if he wanted to redo ESB"

My Faces set isn't missing the footage.

"So will you go guys be using the retail DVD menus in future productions?"

Well, first that assumes I will ever get the DVDs - which won't happen unless I use Netflix or someone buys them for me.

Secondly, no.

MeBeJedi - your menus look awesome! Just they way they should be...simple, attractive, functional and well thought out. I love them!

Nothing bothers me more about commercial DVD's than huge, video-laden menus that take forever to navigate and take up valuable bit-space that could be put to better use for higher quality video.

Top drawer, man! Very well done!

Thanks. I agree about the commercial menus we are required to go through sometimes. Forced intros and weird navigation really suck. My SW DVD has a 15 second THX intro. This is followed by a 27 second "Millenium Falcon" intro which can be skipped by hitting any of the navigation buttons or enter. Soooooo much easier.....

TR47 -- your sets came today and they are awesome! I bought a previous set off of eBay, but it doesn't touch the 7 disc TR47 set! I'm sure that some of the others are just as good, but I am so pleased -- it's like Christmas came early! Thanks, TR47! Hopefully I can get some more orders for you as well!

Okay... now I'm confused. Seven disc TR47 set? I thought that the TR47s were just the three, and sometimes 4 if the Dr. Gonzo Supplemental Disc was included. (Or is this 7 disc talk regarding a set of both versions?)
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

The other discs are all these cool old documentaries that Rikter has made some covers for.

I've got my fingers crossed that Rikter, or someone who has them, will make torrents of them. hint hint

I got the 7 DVD Ultimate Set from TR47 a few days ago AND IT ROCKS!! Absolutely brilliant a/v quality! I used to watch DVD transfers of my 95 PAL VHS Widescreen set (in mint condition) and I thought they were pretty darn good, but the laserdisc-to-dvd transfers beat the crap out of it in every way. I expected the lower resolution of the NTSC signal to trouble me but the signal was fortunatly as good as PAL on my Pioneer 656 player. I´ve got a 32" Philips TV and it has a great zoom feature which makes the non-anamorphic transfers look amazing. And the sound on those discs is the best sounding Star Wars since I saw them in the cinema when the SE were shown. Incredible bass, clarity and high fidelity all around with great stereo effects. That´s what one gets from the original uncompressed PCM sound. Listening to the bass heavy tremble when Vader forcechokes is proof enough. I´m in love with this set, absolutely!

As for the rest of this 7 DVD Ultimate Set (8 if you count the artwork disc also), well we have all the Definitive Edition extras on one disc including the commentaries for various scenes. I don´t think to much of those commentaries cause they mostly directly repeat what´s said on the Lucas, Burtt and Muren interviews from that very same laserdisc collection. Then we have three extra discs, each focusing on one movie. Spread out over those discs are the four original (about an hour long each) documentaries; The Making Of Star Wars, SP-FX: Empire Strikes Back, Classic Creatures: The Making Of Return Of The Jedi and finally From Star Wars To Jedi: The Making Of A Saga. The quality on those varies since they are obviously taken from some old VHS tapes. Classic Creatures comes out worst here with pretty muddy visuals (but watchable), the others are fine. There are also 3 trailers for each movie (really old and nostalgic ones to, a hoot to watch including a rare Revenge Of The Jedi trailer.) Then we have some old interviews with Carrie Fisher, Billie Dee Williams and Harrison Ford as well as original audition tapes for Hamill, Ford and Fisher (really fun to see that). There are really fun bits from a Saturday Night Live episode with sexy Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and the Star Wars episode of "That 70´s Show" which is really enjoyable to watch. Added to that are the funny Troops mocumentary, two deleted scenes (one with good old Biggs Darklighter and another with Luke watching the skies on Tatooine (without sound), an alternate Cantina scene (with some lady smooching from Mr. Solo), some THX promos, the bit where Bart Simpson blows up the Death Star (hilarious!) and a Star Wars franchise commercial for childrens underwear for example (that´s psychadelic)! Mighty fine extras I have to say. With this came the eighth disc with some cool artwork to print out for covers, discartwork and more).

All in all I have to say I´m massively pleased with this set and can reccommend it to anyone looking for a quality version of the OT, the best one IMO bar the official DVD release of the forthcoming Special SE which contain all sorts of unpleasantries. I just might skip the official release since I have those TR47 DVD´s to quench my OT Star Wars thirst. We´ll see...

I noticed the TR47 version is either a 4 or 7 disc set. It also mentions a cdr that comes with either set. Does anyone know if the cdr has the Definitive Collection artwork on it to make cd covers from? I know there are torrents available, but I'm gun-shy when it comes to hooking up to that type of network Thanks. Long live the OT...whether Lucas likes it or not!

Okay guys, honest opinion here. I came up with an idea, screwed around with Vegas, and got this.

[EDIT] Made a much better version...

Not that I don't support your efforts, coz I can't wait to see your DVDs , my opinion is to NOT put it in, because basically the main aim here is to achieve the best DVD version of the original trilogy as it was, and not altered, including credits.

For those who hate that 4 sec gap between the leia welding scene there is a easy way to fix the problem with out recoding the movie, i will post the solution tomorrow don’t have time to write it up now

Sounds like an Ifoedit solution, but wouldn't people still have to reburn the DVD?

Reburning shouldn't be much of a problem. It's having to reencode something that is a big pain.

I'm afraid you've got quite a wait on your hands. He's taking his own sweet time on these and for good reason - it's tedious work. ANH is 200,000 frames, and he's going through all of them. It's going to be several months. I don't recall his stance on making these anamorphic.

[EDIT] Actually, I seem to recall him not being so keen on making these anamorphic, due to the overall loss in resolution.

I totally understand why he would prefer a non-anamorphic version. I'm actually hoping he'll do both so we can have the best of both worlds, depending on whether you have a widescreen TV or not.

In case anyone is interested, I uploaded a low-res version of my new MEBEJEDI ending so people could see it. It's 2.8 megs.

You have to change the "jpg" extension to "mpg".

(I would appreciate someone with high bandwidth downloading and testing the file for me, please. )

Looks good to me! You did a good job of matching font, size, and placement. There did seem to be some interlacing with the wipe you used, but better that it appear in the credits than the film itself. Based on the clip's aspect ratio, I'm guessing your set isn't anamorphic? Of course, that doesn't make me want it less, I just want to set up my player correctly.

ETA: On repeated viewings, the "B" and "J" seem to look a little different (i.e. a little blue-green) than the rest of the text, but that might be the fact that it's at a lower quality than the final.
Author
Time
Believe it or not, there was no "font". Vegas is a non-linear editor, and I superimposed select letters from different names, and lined them up over Lucas' name. The "B" and "J" look different because the only name that had them was "John Barry", which was also when the names started scolling up. That one was a little trickier to line up (after halting the scroll.)

Oh, if by interlacing, you mean the two or three places where it seems like another letter bleeds through, that is exactly what is happening. I am unable to define the exact size of the matte used to block out the other letters, so some of them do bleed through. I might go back and work on that, but it's not horrible.

A pretty good effect, considering what I had to work with.
