Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread — Page 141

One thing that’s always bugged me about the movie, but that I haven’t seen many edits address, is the sequence just before the heroes leave for Pasaana. The music tries to make it feel like it’s one long, emotional scene, when it’s really a series of smaller scenes that don’t quite blend together imo. But I don’t know what to do about this.

  • I tried just cutting right from “we go together” to Threepio saying goodbye to Artoo, but then it looks like Threepio is still looking at Rey while he says it.
  • I tried cutting the “we go together” scene entirely, but then we lose the only mention of Pasaana.
  • I tried rescoring the whole sequence with something more upbeat, but I can’t separate the music from Threepio’s goodbye - and I can’t cut that, because that makes it look like Rey teleported.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

It’s just after the Ben and Han scene. It fits perfectly. I’m just waiting on some 4k footage to see if it improves.

Does it look blurry to you in that clip? It’s from 1080p blu-ray but just looks off to me.

I love that concept - can’t wait to see it in context! But yeah, I do think the shot looks a little blurry. Especially with a planet like Coruscant, where the planet itself has a lot of distinctive, fine-line details and colors, you’d probably want to see that detail a little more clearly. Right now it just kind of looks like any old planet to me. But I don’t have any experience with VFX, so I’m sure whatever you come up with will be great!

Im wondering how s that almost no one here considered cutting the Emperor completely from the film and making Kylo the main villain instead? 😄

Thanks for the feedback. It’s a great help. I managed to get the 4k version and it’s still blurry. I may have to create the whole planet from scratch. 2 months work for a 2 second clip. Gotta love fanediting. 🙄

There’s already an edit that does that.

I read through the overview, it seems unclear what drives the plot. Why are they going from place to place to place to place if not to get to Palpatine?

You could always establish something about some old Sith fleet on Exegol or Katan fleet from EU. You could make the protagonists lookin for it just to find out it was already discovered by the FO 😄

Is it 35 mins long?

That edit is 1 hour and 46 minutes. I just started on an updated version that will probably be a couple of minutes longer.

They are seeking out the hidden fleet which, even in the official release I would argue, is the main threat to the galaxy. It doesn’t address any of the plot holes regarding the fleet itself, such as why they were waiting to deploy even after the people’s fleet showed up; why the ships designed and constructed on this planet are the only ships that can’t navigate off said planet - every ship in the people’s fleet and Pryde’s command ship can come and go no problem; after destroying like 3 star destroyers and the command ship, they leave with Poe saying something like, “They’re stuck here. Let’s go home.” Never mind that there is still an inactive beacon on the ground, and even assuming it was destroyed offscreen, it also assumes the people who built 10,000 star destroyers in 30 years won’t to construct another navigation beacon in like a week. Even if somehow the entire working population was in that arena, you still have 10,000 skeleton crews to draw workers from.

I guess the confusion came from Rey and the Wayfinder no longer being what leads people there, but instead D-O. So… why are they going to Pasaana, Kajimi, Kef Bir, etc.

Author

They are still searching for the wayfinder which simply points to this ancient sith planet where the fleet is. Just like the theatrical release, the search is fairly pointless as it gets destroyed as soon as Rey finds it. Instead of taking it from the enemy, which they essentially could have done at any point they crossed paths with Ren whether they had decided to search for the second wayfinder or not, their search does lead them to something that points the way.

That’s why I suggested in Hal’s thread that we create new scenes using limited resources a la Adywan.

i disagree. I don’t want Hal & the crew to be stuck working on this for over a decade. It’s a thankless task.

What everyone is doing right now is the way to go.

I actually think a TROS without Palpatine is viable, and joshuabri has come up with a lot of clever ideas to execute it. Sure, it does leave you with some questions, but IMO, not anymore questions than the theatrical film introduces. And I think further ideas could be made to his edit, or future edits, that can help tie up some of those dangling threads that you inevitably get with major cuts.

Sure, it might not give you the bombastic conclusion you get with Rey melting Palpatine’s face off, but I think removing Palpatine as the primary antagonist helps keep Rey and Kylo on certain-stage, giving them more active and interesting journeys. Sure, it wouldn’t replace an edit that stays closer to the theatrical as being a definitive version, but I think you could make a fun alternative that could still maintain a 1hr45min, potentially a 2hr, runtime.

The camera movement looks odd, it looks as if the Star Destroyer is moving downwards from front to bottom towards Coruscant. Make the movement of Coruscant slower.

Yes it does look like that, but I think it’s neat. They’re ships, they’re supposed to move.

Im wondering how s that almost no one here considered cutting the Emperor completely from the film and making Kylo the main villain instead? 😄

Oh believe me, plenty of people have. Maybe just not on this thread.

If it was possible and done “smoothly,” I’d much prefer that. IT would help if there are actual deleted scenes and are ever made available. One could wish…

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

I had just came up with the idea of removing the mention of Leia from Finn’s “It’s something only Rey and the general would understand!” in a separate version of Hal’s edit, for those who choose to watch poppasketti’s TLJ edit which removes the “flying Leia” scene instead of watching Hal’s TLJ edit which does keep the scene, since Finn would not be familiar with Leia’s Force-sensitivity because of the aforementioned scene removal in poppasketti’s TLJ edit. Is this possible?

It seems like everyone knows Leia is training Rey.
