It’s cool and all, but if that were in the movie it would need to be followed up on. I don’t think it’d fit into the movie as it is.
I was just thinking it follows up nicely with Luke on Ahch-To and him showing up to help Rey on Exegol and then later being on Tatooine.
Probably won’t work on this edit but could be interesting if someone did something where Luke force projects Han Solo’s memory to Ben in order to redeem him and pushing him todo the right thing.
Riffing on this idea a bit,
It would be really great to have Luke call out to Leia as a final comfort in some form, just prior to her sacrifice. It could be placed somewhere between the headphone-drop and Maz’s exposition-drop? (You might even be able to replace the Maz-speaks-to-the-audience moment with this in it’s place?)
Maybe even just a simple audio-only line from Luke, in the vein of: “Leia, it’s time…” to vaguely imply that Leia calling out to Ben in such a way was always “planned” by Leia and Luke’s spirit post-TLJ, but only as an absolute last resort to save Ben. I believe a similar idea (Luke’s spirit communing with Leia post-TLJ) is lightly mentioned and explored in the TROS novelisation?
With Leia (somewhat) directly acknowledging the consequences of what she’s about to do, her death and resulting sacrifice would play out as being more explicitly deliberate to the audience, heightening the overall emotional drive of the moment. It would also better clarify that Leia’s DSII “Ben” projection is purely a “break-glass-in-the-event-of” force feat for her, performed only because up to that point absolutely all else had failed in bringing her son back.
If nothing else, this small addition would give us as close to an on-screen reunion of the OT trio (at least in the ST era) as we’ll ever get. The core idea being that it ultimately takes the combined power of Luke, Leia and (Leia’s force-memory/projection of) Han all in rapid succession to finally and completely redeem Ben Solo.
Just spitballing though, this might be way too convoluted to fully sell on-screen without it all being a bit too jarring or “edity”… but with the tasteful usage of Jonh’s excellent footage, just maybe…?
