Honestly I prefer 4K77/4K83 over despecialized, the despecialized editions are a good effort but they’re clearly frankenstein edits and at times it really shows. They also use sources that are inherently sharpened and noise reduced.

Notice how in this frame alone how Luke’s face looks extremely waxy on the despecialized edition but far more organic on 4K83.

While it is true that 4K77 has inconsistent quality and graininess in its presentation, you got to understand how this movie was shot and made. It didn’t have as fancy filmstock like Empire or Jedi did, and all of the effects and desert scenes didn’t help things either. A lot of the inconsistencies have to do with how the movie was shot rather than the print itself.

So once again, despecialized is a good effort but I think if you want the true versions as seen in theaters back in the 70s and 80s then 4K77/4K83 are more for you.
