I hope that was said tongue fully in cheek. I think one of the reasons that most of us are even on this board is because we aren't willing to take the Star Wars that is force fed to us. (No pun intended.) I stopped reading Star Wars fiction because of increasingly poor writing. I stopped collecting Hasbro Star Wars because of increasingly inferior products. I didn't purchase the SSE DVD box set because of what I see to be borderline blasphemous changes. (Though a friend did get it for me for my birthday as a joke, I keep it in a cupboard under my entertainment stand like a box of porn I don't want anyone to know that I have.)

Sorry, but I see this TV idea as a cheap way (yes, cheap...the production costs discussed by McCallum at CIII for the entire run of the show were less than those for a single feature SW film and that would be for years of continued "built in" fan supported broadcast and ancillary cash, not to mention the hundreds of millions that will be made in further merchandising) for them to continue cashing in on a fan base that has been exploited over and over again with increasingly less than outstanding product. I find it sad that the Star Trek analogy that used to be a joke applied to Star Wars fans is now slowly (but fully) becoming a reality.

That being said, I am not one to simply turn my nose at something without taking a chance and judging it with the knowledge of its content. (Hell, I waste money on bad films on a weekly basis just so that I can defend good films with educated ammunition of what truly does "suck".) I will watch the pilot and following week's episode before I completely throw in the towl (or alternatively, my wallet for the DVD's when they are released).

If this is considered Lucas bashing, please understand that I think the man is a genius (though a bit misguided since his wife screwed him over...but that is another discussion entirely). I have read every book written about him. In my early years (without a father), I truly considered him a father figure through his works that gave me so much enjoyment. Without Star Wars I have no idea what my life would be like. But there comes a time when you have to be honest and admit that blind love is not love at all. True love to me comes from honesty. And the honest truth is that George has (by his own admition) become the very thing that he did not want to become. The head of a multi billion dollar empire that at this point has to keep the greenbacks flowing. Even if it be by exploiting the very entity that gave rise to that empire in the first place.

I think this show will be the death knell of Star Wars. I will, however, be ready and SO happy to eat an entire flock of crows if it ends up getting knocked out of the park.
