My girlfriend and I recently watched the Directors Cut (as it was all that was commercially available without digging for an old DVD or VHS at Goodwill) and were really taken aback by how my much the added footage upsets the pacing, tone, and even character intentions of what was pretty much a perfect movie.

I joined originaltrilogy.com just for this, but trust that I’m going to be digging the hell into these forums. If I could also get a link to this, that’d be endlessly appreciated.
