Lucas stood by the prequels to the end. I don’t think anybody is all that passionate about the sequels. The prequels were Lucas’s child, the sequels are just a (lacklustre) product.

I find it ironic that the sequels begun by throwing a lot of shade at the prequels, to an extent understandably so (“this will begin to make things right”), but by the end they were desperate enough to cling to prequel memes in an attempt to hold any sort of legitimacy.
