Hey there everyone!!!

I forgot about this thread totally!!!

After reading all your replies, I have to say that I'm reconsidering the laser printer I was planning on buying and I'm intrigued by the acrylic idea as well.
I started looking at the Epson R300 and I like it more and more, especially after reading opinions like MeBeJedi's and Rikter's, whose opinions I consider gold on these boards.

Just a few quick questions....

I have heard that inkjet printers tend to dry up and don't print well. I had a canon that did this and was why I switched to a black and white laser printer. Is there a problem with the inkjets drying up or not printing properly after not using them for a while?

Also, do inkjet printings look better depending on the paper you use? Like if you use the super nice glossy paper as opposed to plain white legal?

I've got an Epson Stylus Photo R320. It works well, but about 50% of the time when I try to print out a high-res picture (like a DVD cover), it memory dumps. Also, the CD printing software won't print all the way to the center of the disc. The smallest inner diameter is 20 mm. This is a problem if you're using labels. If you're using printable discs like MoveAlong, it shouldn't be a problem because you can't print all the way to the center.

And, yes, injet printers look much better on glossy paper than regular printer paper. It does on my R320 anyway.

(For DVD covers, I use my color laser printer at work on regular paper. It looks just fine.)

I got rid of my consumer epsons because of all the ink clogs and the price of inks. Epsons consumer models have real problems. I now have a canon ip3000 and an ip5000. I love them. The ink is inexpensive and they just do not have the problems that the epsons do.

Check out my post on the first page about how to adapt the canons. The tray is hard to get and the front rollers are nearly impossible. FYI, I just got a shipment of 6 set of rollers from thailand for the pixma printers. It took me 3 months for them to arrive. (If you live outside of the americas, the canon printers are enabled from the factory for cd printing)

I like the glossy photo paper from costco. Works great for covers. 120 sheets for $19.

Just curious, do you guys have any good sites for custom DVD cases/labels artwork? The site I used to like is now down and CDCovers just seems to have scans, not custom artwork for the most part. I'm looking to get some custom lables for the Blade movies. Any suggestions? Much thanks.

You can also upload stuff to gain access.

Cover scans. Disk labels. Custom created label is what they like best.

Scaramanga is one there. His covers are in your Star wars covers torrent. Some of the stuff is awesome.

They are getting ready to expand the server so uploading is a problem right now. Just upload jpgs of your work in the Proving Grounds and they will look it over and give you the yea or nah!

Wow, I had forgotten how old this thread was... In any case I was in the market for a new printer than can do direct printing (getting rid of those labels finally) and am looking mainly at Epson's R260 ($79.99 after rebate) and their R38 ($129.99). Any ideas on how either of them would stack up against one another (assuming all I'm looking for is direct to disc as well as regular printing for school work and such)? Thanks guys!

"The canon european versions have cdr printing capabilities fully enabled."

I found this odd, but I ran across this:

Epson apparently has a patent in the US for inkjet printing on CD/DVD, that's why you don't see any Canons for sale in the US, but outside the US HP & Canon have models that will do this, so try and find a non-US market Canon to print on your CDs.

Makes sense to me.

<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>
