My collection is not that impressive, but my father has:

1997 OT Widescreen VHS

The VCD of the OT (going off of the box, I’m guessing its the same as the 2000 VHS version
2004 DVD set of the OT

DVDs of the prequels and sequels as well as the blu rays for the whole saga.

He also has the DVDs for Rebels, 2008 Clone Wars, 2003 Clone Wars, Droids, Ewoks and a bunch of the Lego Star Wars Series

I really wanna get Original trilogy laserdiscs, and the newer 4k releases, but have yet to do so.
Here are the star wars films that I currently have:

Original trilogy VHS - I believe the box set is from 1988, It’s the one with the movie posters on the cover; I don’t really know that much about the different vhs releases I just bought them on ebay.

Special Edition VHS with the gold covers - Ah yes, the ones that I grew up on. We love some PlayStation 2 Jabba and fastforwarding through the documentaries at the beginning.

Phantom Menace VHS

Attack of the clones DVD
Revenge of the Sith DVD

Prequel Trilogy Blu Ray set 2011
Original Trilogy Blu Ray set 2011 - My brother and I bought the trilogies separate for some reason. I really remember noticing the changes on this one. Especially the color grading in episode IV.

Star Wars, the clone wars film blu ray
The force awakens blu ray
Rogue one blu ray
The last jedi blu ray
Solo: a star wars story blu ray.

I do plan on getting the rise of skywalker blu ray at some point, but that was by far my least favorite of the disney era films and I don’t really feel motivation to spend 20-30 dollars on something that I won’t watch very often.

I just bought the entire trilogy from 1986 on Japanese laserdisc. Those were the only ones i did not have. With the exception of not owning the second Definitive box, or any of the special edition releases Boxed set or singles. I just need to get Making of Star Wars to complete my red label set which includes Star Wars 1983 and empire strikes back 1984. I would like to have copies with the OBI strip of Star Wars 1983 and Empire Strikes Back 1984 but my copies are so perfect and without any rot, perfect dustjacket without any foxing or mold i am very happy with them as is.

I now have 3 copies of Return of the Jedi just to have a non rotted copy with perfect unblemished dustjacket and OBI.

The 1986 trilogy pan and scan all have blue labels. It is strange that there never was a red label return of the jedi to match the first 2 films from 1983 or 1984.

Crossing my fingers that when Empire and Star Wars arrive in the mail they have no laser rot.

Edit: I don’t recommend the 1986 pressing of Return of the Jedi from Japan. After buying 3 copies 2 out of 3 are rotters. catalog number SF098-1100 avoid at all costs.

I just replaced my Faces laserdiscs of Star Wars and Jedi with the CBS/FOX Special Widescreen Edition laserdiscs. I plan to replace Faces Empire with the SWE version of Empire as soon as I can.

For 29 bucks i was able to get a sealed copy of Empire Strikes back from 1984 with the Original Triangle OBI. It is hard to stop collecting Laserdiscs when they can be had for cheap as singles, just not box sets.

I ended up getting the 1989 Special Widescreen Edition of Empire. I’m finished collecting Star Wars videos for real.

JEDIT: I lied.

My parents had ROTJ VHS pre-SE
(I then had VHS copies of ANH and ESB 1997 SE)
TPM, AOTC, and ROTS DVDs when they were released (TPM was actually my first ever DVD bought by my grandparents for one of my birthdays)
Original Trilogy 4 DVDs box set 2004
Original Trilogy 6 DVDs box set 2006 (with the GOUT as bonus discs).

I bought the Making of Star Wars/SPFX Empire Magnetic Video Laserdisc yesterday. The only further Star Wars video I might buy is Classic Creatures on either VHS or Laserdisc.

JEDIT: This Magnetic disc broke in the mail.

I’m going to get that one as well. Only i’m going to get the 20th Century Fox release from 1983 in Japan of Making of Star Wars. Because it matches my 1983 Star Wars and 1984 Empire and completes the set of red label discs.

Ended up getting the JSC releases of Star Wars and Jedi over the course of the year.

I have the Faces vhs, the 1997 vhs, the 2001 repacking of the 1997 vhs, the 2004 DVD, the 2006 Gout,TPM VHS, AOTC VHS, ROTS DVD, Star Wars Vs Star Trek the tv special, a Star Wars anniversary from some years back, the 2003 Clone Wars Series DVD, Rouge One Blu Ray, Harmy’s DEED and the first three seasons of Rebels on Blu Ray.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Love the JSC still have them in their original wrapper and obi just opened on the side to slide them out of the jacket and viewed once. Still even have the over hundred dollar price sticker on each from 1987.

All are absolutely flawless copies. No foxing on the dustjacket and no Laser rot. no corner bumps in the gatefold, or any tear in the OBI strip. Paid about 175 US for them about 15 years ago and they were worth every single penny.

Still my favorite set is the 1995 Japan Faces set called the collectors set. With the John Alvin covers and from Star Wars to Jedi.

And my favorite Laserdisc releases of the movies by far are the first issue Star Wars, and Empire Strikes Back Japan releases. Not time compressed. Analog sound only. Pan and Scan. The covers are awesome and the gatefolds are splendid.

I do have the 2004 dvd, 2011 Blu-Ray, and 2020 trilogy digitally but i never watch them. I couldn’t even be bothered to buy the Saga 4K set i was tempted just to complete my blu-ray 4K Star Wars collection, but then i figured i could spend the 250 on something i actually might watch.

I’ll buy them again when the next format comes along. They joy of repurchasing Star Wars far outweighs the cost.

I didn’t own the OT on VHS, only recordings that had been on TV (😬in LP all 3 on 1 cassette 😭).

(2004)
I bought the 2004 OT Silver DVD Boxset as well as the PT DVD’s.

(2012)
I then purchased the 2011 Blu Rays of both PT and OT and to be honest I wasn’t thrilled with what we got, yeah they were in HD but just didn’t seem the same and by this time I had forgotten about the changes that I hated, mainly the Jabba scene in ANH and Jedi Rocks ROTJ.

(2015)
I purchased the infamous GOUT releases, not knowing what I was actually getting as I had not read up on them properly😧. I will admit that I don’t regret owning them tho as much as they are hated they are still official (Sort of Original) Theatrical release.

(2017)
I have pre-ordered all the releases of the ST along with RO and Solo.

And those are my Star Wars purchase’s, not a massive collection by any means.

(Off Subject)

I only heard about this site roughly at the end of 2019 beginning of 2020 and I am so grateful to everyone who contributes here and all the work everyone puts in. Never in a million years would I have believed what could be achieved by fans, it truly is incredible.

As a kid, my family would regularly rent the VHS’s of the OT (always either the 1995 “Faces” set or the 1997 Special Editions), but the first Star Wars film I actually bought and owned was The Phantom Menace on DVD. Then after a couple years, I bought the AotC DVD as well as the 2004 OT set (I can’t remember which of the two I bought first). I didn’t notice the 2004 DVDs’ many problems, except for the music being drowned out during some of the battle scenes in ANH, and I didn’t mind the new changes at the time, so overall, I was pleased with the set.

A year or so later, I bought RotS on DVD.

Then I bought the GOUT DVDs as soon as those were in stores. I still liked the Special Editions at this point, so the unaltered versions were more of a curiosity than anything else (plus, I wanted to own the most recent releases of the films), and I surprisingly didn’t notice yet how low-quality the GOUT was.

When the 2011 Blu-rays finally came out, they came at a time when I’d lost interest in Star Wars. Plus, I was getting very annoyed that even more changes were being made to the films (Vader’s “Nooooo!” Was especially frustrating). And I’d also become aware at that point of how poorly handled the 2004 remasters were, and knew the Blu-rays would be more or less the same. So, I didn’t bother buying them at the time. On the rare occasions that I rewatched the OT, I just watched the GOUT instead.

I haven’t bought any of the Disney era movies. My brother bought Blu-ray copies of TFA and Rogue One, since he was much more on board at the time with Disney Star Wars than I was, but he lost interest with TLJ, which he still hasn’t bought, nor has he bought Solo or TRoS.

In 2020, I did finally buy the 2011 Blu-ray set of the OT so that I could legally watch the Despecialized Editions. I also recently bought the 2011 PT Blu-ray set, as well, since I found a good deal on it.

So, all in all, I’ve bought the OT three times and the PT twice.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

Individual Trilogy tapes around 1988
Trilogy Boxed Set (1992)
Definitive Collection Laser Discs (1993)
“Faces” Trilogy on VHS (1995)
Trilogy: 4 DVD Box Set (2004)
Trilogy Limited Edition DVD (2006 GOUT)
The Complete Saga (2011 Blu-ray). To be able to own fan edits and preservations, I would not have bought them otherwise.
The Skywalker Saga (2020, 18 Disc Blu-ray)

My grandparents have a 1991 TV recording of ROTJ the 2000 SE tapes, and the GOUT release of Empire.
I have the 2001 TPM, 2002 AOTC, 2005 ROTS, thin-case GOUT trilogy, 1997 SE tapes, the 2015 steelbooks for the OT, TFA Blu-Ray/DVD combo with Walmart slip, standard DVD releases of TLJ, Solo and TROS, and the Blu-Ray/DVD combo of Rouge One, so if we’re only counting the dupes, I have bought/received the OT 4 times. (the 2000 tapes have been passed on to me because my grandma doesn’t need them anymore thanks to cable TV)

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

The 2000 Fullscreen SE VHS of A New Hope and the 1992 Fullscreen VHS of Empire and Jedi were in a lot of 10 Alec Guinness films on VHS that I ordered on eBay.

A friend just spotted the ‘Faces’ OT boxset in a charity shop for 10 quid and picked it up for me! O joyous day.

Gonna have to dust off my family’s old VHS player. I hope it still works otherwise that’s 10 quid for a shelf decoration…

Found all three GOUT editions of the original trilogy in a second hand store today, and only costing a fiver in total! Despite the quality of the laserdisc scans I’m sure that’s a huge bargain so naturally, I grabbed them. Even the conductor on my train home was admiring the shitty early 2000s digital cover art. There’s a certain charm to it I think.

By the way, I have a VHS edition of ROTJ that I can’t find any information on. It says packaging copyright 1994 and it has this art as the cover:

Anyone know anything about it?

I was also wrong in my last post: the VHS boxset sadly wasn’t the Faces boxset, it was the 1997 fullscreen boxset - the golden one with Vader on the cover. Grateful for them anyway.

All in all, I have:

  • The apparently 1994 edition of ROTJ
  • 1997 Star Wars trilogy boxset
  • 2004 Special Edition DVDs (how I first watched the movies)
  • 2006 GOUT DVDs

My friend called me a hoarder when she saw me buying the OT for the 3rd time. I’m beginning to think she might be right.

I’ve bought the 2004 DVDs, the 2006 GOUT discs, and the 2011 Blu-Rays

For the prequels, I bought the original DVDs and the 2011 Blu-Rays.

For the sequel trilogy, I bought the original Force Awakens Blu-Ray, the 3D re-release (for the director’s commentary), and the original 4K releases of Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker

I also bought the multi-disc 3D Blu-Ray for Rogue One, never got around to buying Solo.

I bought the original DVDs for the Clone Wars microseries Volume I and II

I’ve bought all seasons of Clone Wars on Blu-Ray, aside from season 7, which is exclusive to Disney+. Seasons 1-5 I believe are international (UK?) releases from Amazon but they are region free.

I also own all seasons of Rebels on Blu-Ray.

Lastly, I subscribe to Disney+, so I can access all the movies and series that way.

I will probably buy the 4Ks of all the movies at some point, but Disney+ and the various fan restoration projects for the OT and PT make it less of a priority.
