I'm pretty sure it's never been released, but I recall there being a DVD re-creation of it not too long ago. I'll see if I can find the link tomorrow, when I have more energy.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

From time to time on ebay you'll see DVD 'recreations' of the old 3D films. I saw Jaws 3D on there once and another one (not Friday the 13th though).

I don't have them but if someone has the LD...

I have the Criterion CAV Ghostbusters and am looking into making a companion disc to the existing DVD.

Another addition to what's *not* on the new DVD release (and assuming this wasn't on the LD):

The trivia subtitle track (aka "fact track" on some dvd's), on the previous DVD of Ghostbusters. Why is this not on the re-release? No new features, and removing the trailers and trivia track-- wtf? Aside from consumers who didn't buy 'em the first time around, who is the new set for? Apparently, not fans.

Any update on the Ghostbusters action?
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Ok, I thought of another random thing I'd love to see. Does anyone have dvd copies of "Return of the Planet of the Apes"? This is the cartoon spin-off of the movies. I think there were like 13 episodes. Anyway, I thought it could be cool.

Sorry for posting so many suggestions....I hope it's not annoying. As soon as I have anything to offer, I will offer it up!

How do they go about doing the transfer in 3D? Are they just telecined from a 35mm print? I would love to get some of those.

I'd love a widescreen DVD of that. I must have emailed Universal
10 times, asking for a widescreen DVD (before and after it was
released in November), but never got a reply.

Thanks,
Pib

Actually I just got this in a trade, pm me

I'm still attempting to obtain moderately-priced hardware solutions. I'm looking at a couple of processing amps and hope to have a frame synchronizer (time base corrector) by next week.

Does anyone know of any line doublers or video scalers that will output to RCA composite or S-Video instead of just VGA (or any of its spinoffs)? Or, by chance, is there a cable that goes from VGA to RCA or S-Video? I'm looking at this as an option to solve the deinterlacing problem.

Any progress on the Godfather Epic/Saga project that was discussed earlier in this thread? I've seen it on TV a few times but would love to have the commercial-free uncensored chronological version on DVD. I doubt Paramount has any plans to officially release it in the near future (if ever) even though it came out on VHS and laserdisc long ago. So fan preservation may be our only hope of getting this on disc.

On a related note I just saw a commercial on Spike TV saying that they'll be showing the chronological version of GF 1 and 2 (aka "Godfather: A Novel for Television") starting on Sep 27 for 4 nights in case anyone who has never seen it just wants to check it out and see what the big fuss is over. This is my preferred version of watching GF 1 and 2 as opposed to the theatrical cuts, and not just because of the extra scenes throughout the film. I really hope we can get this on DVD someday.

Speaking of TV extended versions, does anyone have good copies of the Waterworld extended version (preferrably the uncensored one that was shown on the Encore cable channel a few times and not the censored network tv version). The extended version of Ron Howard's "Far and Away" is also another one on my wishlist. I think it was 30-40 minutes longer than the theatrical cut.

Finally, how about a decent copy of Coppola's "Hearts of Darkness"? All I have is a poor quality VHS-dub. Was this released on laserdisc? It's long OOP and likely to never be released on DVD.

I still have the LD set, but my player is unuseable. Alas, I have failed.....

Hearts of Darkness was released on LD. Are there legal hassles keeping it off DVD?

Currently on eBay there is a copy of the LD for $45. There are also two DVD's. One at $9.99 with no bids and another for $24.95 BIN (gotta love the scalp there). I have an email into the $9.99 guy asking him if it is a VHS or LD rip. We'll see if he answers me.

Paramount has a long history of having their heads up their asses when it comes to DVD releases. We got two releases of Apocalypse and absolutely s**t for supplementals. The first disc had the Kurtz compound destruction scene with commentary and excerpts from the program, but nothing on the Redux release. Hell, all they would have to do is rerelease the first or second version and slap HOD on a second disc and they would have a new dip 2 disc that everyone would buy. I did a quick check and they still have the rights. But as has so often been the case with them, they don't seem to care what their consumers want to buy. (Check out the upcoming Titanic snafu for more evidence of this. Thank God there is the overseas Fox version to buy on that one. From a company that does DVD RIGHT.)

here's a list i've been kind of curious about. these are all criterion laserdiscs that never made the switch to criterion dvd. anyone have these preserved? i'm mostly looking for any extra goodies like deleted scenes and commentary...

wizard of oz
west side story
this is spinal tap (I know this one came out on criterion dvd, but it went oop so early that i didn't have a chance to catch it)
singin' in the rain
sonatine
raging bull
princess bride
taxi driver
pulp fiction
olympia I & II (this one is one i've been looking for forever)
night at the opera
north by northwest
lawrence of arabia
king kong
it's a wonderful life
the killer
halloween
ghostbusters
the great escape
a hard day's night
monty python: holy grail
bram stoker's dracula
close encounters of the third kind
citizen kane
carrie
boogie nights
casablanca
adventures of baron munchausen
2001

i know its a long list, and i'm not expecting them all to be preserved on dvd. in fact i know most are already on dvd, just not criterion. i just think people are missing out on the great criterion commentaries supplied for these films.

Upon re-reading my post, I think I might have been unclear. There will be fanmade DVDs of Fisher and Munchausen. I've got the LDs and either DigitalFreakNYC or MeBeJedi is going to transfer them.

I think Monty Python and the Holy Grail has been ported over to Criterion's DVD collection. Somebody can check the website but I'm pretty sure it's a DVD. Coincidentally I'd love to buy that DVD (if I had the money *sigh*).

I will be doing Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Game, Evita and Boyz N The Hood.

And I also have the original showing of Backdraft from Network TV. Have some others as well. Want to get Sea of Love and the extra Jaws: The Revenge footage.

I know the commentary from the Criterion LD of Raging Bull is on the MGM SE DVD. Not sure about the other extras.
