It's hard to explain why, especially when I'm such a traditionalist, but I think it could work. It seems pretty multi-purpose. I am wondering how more traditional games will play. I guess we'll just have to see how things play out.
Were you aware that Nintendo is talking about opening up its entire game library? They want to make their games available to download to the Revolution...for a price.

Metroid on Revolution.
Super Mario Bros 3 on Revolution.

Someone either here or at IGN mentioned Punch Out using 2 of these controllers.

Yeah, I know of that, and I think it's pretty cool. However, I still have all of my old NES games and play them frequently, so there's not much I'd be willing to pay for. In fact, I own Metroid, SMB3, and Punch-Out. Ah, those were the days. When Nintendo was controlling the market. Of course, that was when they were also heavily censoring and removing a lot of the challenge from their own games...

Shadows was alright, but by today's standards, the difficulty is extremely uneven (IG-88, anyone?) with some stages being really easy and others really hard.

And the best N64 game was Majora's Mask. Everybody knows that.

Darth Chaltab, that picture is a fake. It was a photoshop done by IGN.

From IGN:

Nintendo has not yet released official imagery of what the controller shell might look like. However, we've created a mock-up (above) based on what we know of its functionality. The real controller shell is likely to connect to the free-hand-style pointer in a very similar fashion. Please note that we realize our model is not entirely to scale, but this is the best we could do on short notice.

Link.

-edit-
I just realised that you noted it was a mock up. I think it would be a good idea on Nintendo's part to use a shell designed like that. It would defitnitly make the whole thing a lot better.

Well, I meant, for its time, it was one of the greatest. Especially graphics wise. The PC version was light years ahead of it though. Thonly problem with that game, as someone said in another thread, was that it started the trend of a hoth battle being in every N64 star wars game after it.

Author
Time
Yeah. Nearly EVERY Starwars game has a Hoth Battle now.

Well, except for the KoToR duology.

I think a Hoth battle on the land would be more exciting. Has any game done that yet?

Myself, I want a game where you get to basically do whatever you want in the star wars galaxy. Sort of a GTA-style game. You can choose to be who you want, kill who you want, go where you want. The game would be without cutscenes or loading times. Let's say you are on Kashyyyk, for example. You want to go to Tatooine. You hop in your ship (in my case: The Outrider) and fly up into the atmosphere, out into space. If you see a battle going on and want to join in, do it. Kill everyone in the battle. Let's say you want to kill Chencellor Palpatine. There would be nothing to stop you, no levels to beat, or obstacles, just walk right on in and chop up his ass! This kind of game would require something like Playstation 9 technology or something (anyone remember that commercial) and would be extremely difficult to create, I foresee. Well, at least I can dream!

Well, like I said, the shell itself IS confimred by Nintendo, but there is no word on what it looks like, how many buttons it has, or wheter it will cost extra.

I know it's confirmed. I'm saying that IGN actually thought up a good design for what it should look like... A Gamcube controller. Nintendo should use that design, because it's a good one. Even though they've probably been working on the shell for months before IGN made that mock up...

Yeah, that is a really good design. Though if I were to change anything, I'd give it a second Z button on the left side to eliminate compatibility issues.

As did Rebel Strike and the Galactic Conquest Mod for BF1942.

As if I couldn't stress it enough, that mod kicks Battlefront's ass. If you have BF1942, download it now!

Have you payed any attention to what's been said? The remote pointer is just part of it. It also has an analog stick that comes with the system and a standard controller shell.

I'm pretty sure the shell will be released simultaneously with the system on launch day, Dayv, and it will completey negate the NEED for Nitnendo to release a "new" controller.

Besides, think about the possiblites of the remote; like a StarWars game in which you fight lightsaber battles by swinging the stick.

Yes that would be very nice. Or, imagine this, a Mario Party game in which you have to pass the controller in hands very fast - like a bomb - and if it "exploded" in your hands you lost (since it has an in-built rumble pack, that would be cool). Imagine the possibilities... I mean, of course it must have a regular controller with it, but the "remote" thing is pretty neat.

I can be pretty sure one of the first released games will be WarioWare Revolution, with several minigames such as "chopp the vegetables", and you use the controller as a knife, or "make the coke can burst", where you have to shake the virtual coke can to make it burst when opened, or "paint the fence", in which the controller is a birtual brush and you "paint" the screen, all in 5 seconds... Heheheh should be quite fun.

Those are some good ideas, and definitely things that X-Box 360 can't do. PS3 could with the eyetoy, but it couldn't, say, have a Slingshot minigame.

You could pull B Trigger and ease the remote away from the TV to set the shot (or bow/arrow for that matter) and then release the B button to let it fly, sort of like the Bobomb minigame in Super Mario 64 by 4.

You know, with all this movement, a lot of people will accidently drop their controllers and brake them... And so they'll have to buy another one from Nintendo... Heey, good move, Big N!
