Quote1. It wouldn't necessarily be 'exploding'.

I speculated that Lucas would prove that.
How?
Palpatine and (now) Vader destroy Naboo with the Force, in the worst way possible. In addition to removing the planet, they remove the knowledge of the planet as well. They wipe the memory of Naboo from the minds of all people except them.
Vader doesn't know Padme is on Naboo when it happens though.
Now, that way, you could have put Jar Jar on the planet as well, and then he's better than dead...
To quote the flavor text of the Magic card Door To Nothingness: “All memory of your existence will be wiped from reality. You will die, and no one will mourn.”
Are you serious about it? Vader and Palpatine exploding Naboo with the force, and erasing any memories of it? Why?! Why would they do that?! Don't you agree that if such thing happened in the prequels, the fans would LITERALLY eat GL's heart??
2. At first my thought was that Vader does it alone, to prove himself to Palpatine. (He was going through the movies talking about how strong he is after all.)
3. I imagine some fans would have been unhappy. Others might have thought that such an act is an ultimate form of how powerful the darkside can be.
