I just read this on Yahoo a few minutes ago...I'm curious to see how Fiennes does in the part:

Fiennes to Play Voldemort in Next 'Potter'

LOS ANGELES - He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has been named. Ralph Fiennes (news), who played memorable evil guys in "Red Dragon" and "Schindler's List," has signed on to portray the wicked warlock Voldemort in the next "Harry Potter (news - web sites)" movie, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday.

Voldemort is so bad that the magical characters in author J.K. Rowling (news - web sites)'s stories do their best not to speak his name aloud.

In the first three installments of the saga, a deadly magic spell meant for a baby Harry Potter backfired and deprived him of a body. So only his spirit wrought havoc in "The Sorcerer's Stone," "The Chamber of Secrets" and the recent "Prisoner of Azkaban."

But Voldemort finally returns in the flesh in part four: "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."

Filming has been under way on "Goblet" since June 25, mainly with star Daniel Racliffe as the boy-wizard, and co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as his pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Fiennes has not yet filmed any scenes.

Other additions to the cast include Brendan Gleeson ("Troy," "The Village" and "Cold Mountain") as Potter's new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the fearsome Mad-Eye Moody, and Miranda Richardson, ("The Crying Game," "Sleepy Hollow") as Rita Skeeter, a gossip columnist for a magical newspaper.

The cast also includes Robert Pattinson as Hogwarts student Cedric Diggory, Stanislav Ianevski as Quidditch star Viktor Krum, French actress Clemence Poesy as the heart-fluttering visiting student Fleur Delacour, and Katie Leung as Potter's love-interest and Quidditch rival Cho Chang.

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," directed by "Four Weddings and a Funeral" filmmaker Mike Newell, is scheduled for theatrical release in November 2005.

I am not familier with his work. Is he just going to be Voldemorts voice. The way he was described in the book he sounded like a half snake creature that could only be done digital.

Fiennes can certainly play a bad guy. However I have never read the books so I don't really know if he could be a good Voldemort.

i just finished watching one of the special features on the disc "voices from the list"
at first i felt kinda ripped off because it didnt seem like we got any quality special features...(although the movie was enough) but i was completely surprised...

anyone who has the Schindlers List DVD i highly suggest watching the special feature "voices from the list" a VERY powerful piece...

Schindlers List. powerful movie ,very powerful. I think everyone should see this movie at least once. I still can't believe humans could actually do such terrible things to other humans , as was shown in this movie. I can't imagine what it was like for the people who had to live through it.

i totally agree...
my grandma was born in germany and during the holocaust she was living in Poland with my mom... (forget where exactly) at the time she was working in an ammunition factory. To make a long story short, they ended up coming to Canada shortly after.... for obvious reasons

but the stories she has about over there is enough to make you turn white...

Count me among the one who hasn't seen Schindler's List so I'm not familiar with him.

However, I am familiar with the HP books. Have read them all and this is going to be a tough movie to film. The story itself is very complex. There is so much that happens in it that I just don't see how it's going to work. I might be pleasantly surprised. This was my favorite of the books so far.

Let's see if listing some of Fiennes' other movies will help you...

Red Dragon - Francis Dolarhyde
Strange Days - Lenny Nero
Quiz Show - Charles Van Doren
The Avengers - John Steed

Any of these help?

Fiennes is an excellent choice. Although I wasn't impressed with Red Dragon overall (Manhunter is still the better adaptation of Thomas Harris' novel), Fiennes was easily the best performance in the film. The man can exude menace effortlessly.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

God bless her. How lucky we are that we didn't have to live through that horror.
