'Kiki's Delivery Service' - DJMasturbeats version (1998 Disney English dub) (Released) — Page 2

The GKids ones are a damn good price (around $12 each on Amazon depending on how much stock is in) and are Blu-Ray/DVD combos. Plus, like I said, all of them come with fixed English subtitles for the Japanese audio track that actually translates the Japanese dialogue rather than being based on the English dubbed version, which was a huge selling point to me.

Agreed. This release is great and the Disney/Buena Vista release shouldn’t be the go to anymore. The GKIDS/Shout Factory releases are miles better in image quality for all titles which were also released by Buena Vista. Only Buena Vista release to get is The Wind Rises. The rest ought to be GKIDS, where applicable.

It’s just the audio so I doubt it’ll matter, and I can’t say how long I can keep the file up but there’s no reason for me to delete it anytime soon…

Edit: link removed by moderator (sometimes they slip through the net).

Thank you so so much. This has been bothering me for years. (I bought my ex the old DVD, then got bummed when my own replacement copy seemed different.) I don’t know why it started annoying me again this morning but twelve hours later, with your link, my own video and a quick ffmpeg tutorial, I now have sarky Jiji back :)

I put together a version with 720p Blu-ray and 2003 DVD audio. Not sure how long it will stay up but enjoy!

Also sorry about the audio, it’s only 2 channel but at least it has a decent bit rate (around 320ish).

I have a better link which is HEVC/H.265 1080p with a ton of audio choices including this Disney dub. I didn’t encode this but PM me for details.

What are the audio choices?

Interesting that Molly’s audio link is still up. Must not get auto detected like Mega links?

Auto detection? Huh? That’s not a thing here.

And a link to an audio track isn’t the same as a full movie since you need a copy of the movie itself to do anything with it, though I’ll admit that I’m a little surprised the mods have left that link up.

I just found my file of the 384kbps stereo AC3 track, so if anyone’s looking for this, send me a PM.

I assume the Lossy 384kbps is the best we will ever get of the original Disney dub. Seeing as how no one has ripped the LPCM off of the laserdisc or the ac3 file which is probably comparable to the quality of the one on the original DVD from Disney.

There were video restorations done on these titles. But for the most part you won’t notice the grain management or DVNR except in a couple of places in the second issue of Nausicaa which could just as easily have been the softness of the print. Totoro on the other hand was very clearly given a Disney style restoration. The entire print looks too clean. And the only title they bothered to remaster is Nausicaa. Every other re-issue from Gkids if from the previous master from Buena Vista.

The difference in the two prints of Nausicaa is clear. The original blu ray came from an IP and the new 4K scan off the original negative. The new remaster has been painstakingly timed to the original cels and looks nothing like the original 35mm print, which the earlier blu ray does.

FYI, I’ve suddenly gotten multiple requests for this in the past 2 weeks after months of nobody asking for it. I don’t currently know where it is, I believe it got moved onto one of my many, many external drives when I did a clean install of Windows recently. I’m planning on digging through them this weekend to look for it.

For everyone who’s sent me a PM asking for it, hopefully I’ll be able to dig it up and reupload it this weekend. For anyone else finding this thread, please hold off on PM’ing me about it for now. I’ll post another update in here if I find it again.

Since my last post i see djmasturbeat did a custom blu ray of the original pre Disney dub in high quality LPCM, but included the Disney dub from 1998 in the same low bitrate as the DVD, and 5.1. That custom blu ray was produced 7 years ago and i have no idea if it was ever widely shared.

What bitrate would the stereo PCM track be in on the 1998 laserdisc?

I’m unsure on the current rules on custom blu ray releases with commercially available video but combined with commercially unavailable or out of print audio. So i will cease to talk about such things.

It’s fine as long as you own the official Blu-Ray and you don’t post links in the open forum, only in private messages.

Okay, I found the AC3 track again. I’ll try to remember to keep it on my MEGA account for anyone else who wants it, but no promises!

Hi all—-

Just got my hands on the DJMasturbeats version. It’s a bluray with all tracks and subtitles and I love it dearly. I’m willing to pass on the link to someone if they’d then be willing to share it on request—-for various reasons I won’t be around on the forums much, so I won’t be able to keep it available.

Anybody up for taking the torch?

Cheers

With the blessing of rthomas2, I’m now the official keeper of the DJMasturbeats version on this site. I will upload it to Zippyshare tomorrow afternoon. As with my own ongoing Toy Story 1.5K restoration project, DM me if you want the links.

Sorry for reviving this thread. I made an account here specifically to ask if anyone had a link to the 1998 disney dubbed version they could pass to me. it would make my entire month. my grandfather passed away earlier this year and this is a movie from my childhood that reminds me of times we shared together.

One of these days i really have to get around to watching the Ghibli Box laserdisc and the 1998 Disney one and see which one has the better transfer. I do know that the Ghibli box version has the Old Kiki Jal Airlines dub, and the other the uncut dub from 98 with soaring and i’m gonna fly and all of Phil Hartman’s Jiji lines.

Hi! 😃 I was wondering if I could also have the link for the dubbed 1998 version of Kiki’s Delivery Service? It would honestly mean the world to me. This movie is my entire childhood.

The next upload will take place tomorrow and be sent to those who have requested it.
