Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 68

That would be more feasible, except it’s harder for the heroes to escape the First Order and think they’re safe at all from Kylo. Them leaving the planet and hiding (despite being tracked/followed) is a major plot element, especially with how out in the open they are, getting caught/fighting with Zorri Bliss, etc.

Like EG did in the other thread, all you have to do to make things more alien is a few color edits:

JJ rushed ROS and didn’t really think about that kind of imagery; a few shades of difference and the desert planet becomes green/blue/red and is suddenly unique and interesting.

That’s one thing Rian did right; he was good at color-based imagery and using tweaks on established planet concepts.

Lucas PROBABLY would’ve done this with ROTJ if he hadn’t been emotionally burned out by then.

If we’re going to retcon Pasaana as a known planet, I believe it should be Jedha, as it was suggested many pages ago.

  • Both planets share their filming location (Wadi Rum, Jordan) and look very similar.
  • Jedha was a pilgrimage site for believers in the Force and a former stronghold of the Jedi. It makes sense for Ochi to go there and for Luke to follow him on his quest for Exegol.
  • The festival of ancestors could be turned into a a religious liturgy for any of the cults seen in Rogue One.
  • Immediately after their escape, the heroes hide in an asteroid field. It could be retconned into a ring of debris orbiting Jedha as a result of the Death Star firing on it.

The only challenges I see would be the redubbing of some dialogue where Pasaana is mentioned by name, and digitally altering the planet as seen from space (adding the asteroid field around it, plus a huge crater or chunk of floating debris where the holy city was supposed to be).

Nevarro and Jedha aren’t visually interesting though. What I really want is a different environment, but I realize it’d be a nightmare to implement. The most we can realistically do is make the sand and sky different colors, and even then it’d be tedious.

Jedha’s the best option because it’s practical and interesting. And in terms of cobbling together the word “Jedha” to replace people saying “Pasaana”, pretty much everyone says “Jed-i” at some point, then you just need a generic “uh” sound, which should be easy to find.

Alternatively, find a way to incorporate the planet name into the opening text. Might have to restructure the film a bit.

I have thought that pink would be a good color to replace the redundant green of the forest planets (I was inspired by the cherry blossoms from Japan)
I wanted to use that color for Ach-To but I don’t have the ability to make an edit of it

I gave it a try, and am happy with the results:

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Great work, but why’s it sped up?

Ach-To looks fine as is. It’s fairly unique already. I guess you could change something’s color if you really wanted to.

I like this as a first pass at changing up Ajan Kloss, but the grey of the bark makes it look a bit unnatural.

Pasaana is named twice in the film. One when Rey says she’s gonna start her quest there, and one when a female Imperial officer reports to Kylo about the location of the necklace.

Rey’s delivery is rather mild so redubbing it would not be difficult to redub to Jedha, plus there’s plenty of places where she says “Jedi”. The other character is shown from the sides so her mouth movements are less noticeable and I’d say even easier to lipsync.

Jedha is not that unique in the visual aspect (even though someone could make the asteroid field visible from the surface, to make the sky look more alien) but I’d rather have a familiar planet than a new one that doesn’t look new. This could make for a nice editing collaboration.

Changing the color of Ajan Kloss is also an interesting idea, though likely more time-consuming as that planet features heavily throughout the film.

Ajan Kloss as Teth, let’s go.

Teth? Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a loooong time…
Honestly, though, I don’t quite remember enough about Teth to know what else would need changing. I remember there was a B’Omarr monastery. I guess if Snooker came back she could insert that into the background like she did with the Theed Palace.

Ajan Kloss is only named in supplementary material so we can turn it into any planet we want 😄

As I said about Ajan Kloss when the film first released,

That’s basically all there is to making it Teth. Granted, my plan had just been to make the plants purple, but now that I remember Teth exists and want it to be that, the rocks should probably be purple too. Everything beyond that can be left as is. Keep in mind that it’s a whole planet. It doesn’t have to look exactly like what we saw in TCW.

Oh and it occurred to me today that Kijimi has the same climate as Starkiller Base. Just putting it out there in case someone wants to do something with that information.

Didn’t Starkiller/Ilum explode?

I don’t think he’s suggesting a theory; I think he’s suggesting a radical edit.

Just trying to point out how extensive such a change would be.

Most people are omitting the superweapon aspect of the base, so I would expect that to include omitting its destruction.

I didn’t know that was in “most” edits, what’s the climax then? Are they shifting the battle of D’Qar up too? If there’s nothing for the Resistance and characters like Poe to do, such as destroying Starkiller Base, what happens there? How does Finn trick Han to take him to Starkiller if not to lower shields on the Superweapon for the Resistance to then destroy it?

Author
Time

I don’t know what Ani has in mind but I thought about making the oscillator of the superweapon a secret First Order Base (protected by shields, similar to the Imperial base in Scariff) that is destroyed by the Resistance, while avoiding the destruction of the whole planet

Author
Time

Why is it so imperative to destroy THAT base then? The reason they take the risk to destroy the base is because of the danger. If the First Order is already strong as they are in the rest of the sequel trilogy, what’s the significance of THAT base? Most of the Resistance, including Leia, have zero shits about saving Rey. The entire climax hinges on this base, rather than other bases or Snoke himself, being destroyed desipte Rey being captured and held there.

They still blow up the base, just not the whole freaking planet.
