One thing that stood out to me was Hux going from a frantic “OPEN FIRE” to being calm and collected just a couple shots later. It’s one of the only things that stood out as a potential “acting continuity” error. Not much to do there if you are keeping with all comedy removed in that scene though- so I do understand.
That was in the original version, though. All the trimming occurred before the “OPEN FIRE” line.
Haha, and so it is. I hadn’t revisited the theatrical cut (or any cut of TLJ) in some time! Also wow, I thought there was an interim reaction shot of Hux, or another exchange prior to “he’s insane.” It’s just never flowed perfectly there I guess.
Now that I have sat on (one watch of) this edit a bit longer, I do think the only thing that feels wanting is the lack of Admiral Holdo. Poe’s “that’s Admiral Holdo?” exchange cutting right into the next Rey/Luke scene feels a bit jumpy. And the fact that we can’t explain the shift of focus from Leia to Holdo as Resistance figurehead because… nothing has happened to Leia in this cut.
All that said, there’s probably nothing to build Holdo up as more of a character prior to her self sacrifice without having direct references to the mutiny plotline, and almost everything that comes out of her mouth is just being a bullheaded and low caliber leader. I think my conclusion on this is wishing there was more deleted scene wiggle room on what the Blu Ray supplied.
This may be my preferred version of TLJ now, though, honestly!
