That was a celebrated film, which makes a huge difference. The worse a film is received, or the more BTS drama, the less likely deleted scenes are to be released.

Also, Star Wars, as a franchise, is able to repurpose and retcon stories across all media very easily. It’s far more likely that deleted plot elements crop up in other media.

It’s less work, more money, and less critical blowback for them to release the OT Theatrical Cuts, or to not release the deleted scenes. The amount of fans that would love the deleted scenes is just too small a number.

I suppose so, though the Prequels got a lot of really good deleted scenes released on DVD and Blu-ray, despite how much hardcore fans tore them apart too. You are correct about the reception and behind the scenes stories affecting that happening, but I still think it could happen, with it being Star Wars and all. More deleted scenes were released for the Prequels on the Blu-ray release than the original DVD releases, but it could be due to Lucasfilm being run by George Lucas at the time, and not Kathleen Kennedy. As for the dreaded OOT Trilogy release, I still think they’re contractionally obligated by George to not release them.
