The Clone Wars (2008) - Episode Guide

Hey all, this is basically my first post here, however I have seen and been inspired by all the great work on Original Trilogy for a long time. This is a guide for what to watch of Clone Wars if you are short on time (or just don’t want to watch a bunch of filler). Aside from adding in the Mortis Arc and getting rid of the movie, the guide for seasons 1-5 was not done by me, however I cannot credit them as I do not know who they are. Whoever you are, thanks a bunch!

(feedback would be appreciated)

Awesome! Thanks for the compliment. I agree that maybe the bad batch arc isn’t quite as important as the siege of Mandalore, but the reason I included it was mainly because the reveal that Echo was alive was really cool to me. Also, I had been searching for a guide of what to watch in rebels, and I’ll definitely have to take a look at yours. Thanks again! 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I’ve only seen season one so far but that’s fair. I also thought Hidden Enemy was a good combination of the best elements: Clones and Asajj Ventress. It was also worth skipping anything that begins with the narration “Representative Binks…”

True. Again, I didn’t make the 1-5 guide, but if I did, I might not even include that because of how, even though lots of the episodes excluded are good, part of what this guide is about is being picky with what you watch so that it doesn’t take as long. Also don’t get me started on Jar Jar stuff. In season six there’s a weird arc I left out where we learn about Jar Jar’s love interest who is abducted by a cult and almost sacrificed. Yay. Fun.

That sounds like what they call a waking nightmare.

Also, Ahsoka’s Walkabout/Martez Sisters arc takes place before The Bad Batch arc. When Ahsoka and the Martez Sisters leave Coruscant, Anakin and Ahsoka connect through the Force. This is before Anakin leaves for the Outer Rim for about six months (leading up to Revenge of the Sith).

The Bad Batch is set during those Outer Rim conflicts while Anakin is unable to return to Coruscant.

The Siege of Mandalore and Revenge of the Sith feature his return to Coruscant during the battle featuring Palpatine’s kidnapping.

And lastly, The Bad Batch arc is essential viewing with the new series coming out next year.

I did include bad batch as essential viewing. Also, With the way this guide is set up, It would be a bit confusing to put the Martez sisters before the Bad Batch. Even if I could do it in a way that worked I probably wouldn’t. The creators of Clone wars season 7 didn’t make it in perfect chronological order for a reason. I think the Bad Batch arc is a better intro to the season than if we were to start with Ahsoka and the Martez sisters. Also, I find it interesting to cut to ahsoka in a very different situation, contrasting life in the Jedi order and life not in the Jedi order. I don’t really get what you’re trying to say with the second part of your post. I am aware that The Siege of Mandalore and Revenge of the Sith feature Anakin’s return to Coruscant during the battle featuring Palpatine’s kidnapping. If you wanted me to change the guide to fit that, the problem is, there is only so much you can put in those paragraphs. I did try to address the fact that the siege of Mandalore ties into ROTS.

It’s not perfect chronological order because they wanted the season to restart with action, to have an exciting premiere. It wasn’t as strict of a narrative choice when you’re talking about the series as a whole.

I was just trying to give a timeline and show where those final episodes take place. Ahsoka’s Walkabout/Martez Sisters takes place a bit more than 6mo before ROTS, as Anakin is leaving, Bad Batch takes place maybe a month or so later when Anakin is gone, and then Siege and ROTS are when he returns to the surprise pregnancy.

It’s mainly to help that narrative when doing a big rewatch of everything in order that it makes sense to move them around. If this is a shortcut of episodes to get the general gist of the series but not watch all 7 seasons between AOTC and ROTS, I feel like those episodes in chronological order might help more.

That makes sense, thanks!😀

You know what I wish for? I wish the Bounty Hunter Arc and Rex and R2 Top Gun is adapted to a video game, the Kashyyk arc and the Return to the Jedi Temple converted similar to Maul of Dathomir, and the Yuuzhan Vong atc adapted to a novel and Return to Mon Cala becoming an animated short in 2D. I do wish of the Battle of Nelvaan to be canon and the rest of the 2D Clone wars that took place before TCW film/Cat and Mouse/The Hidden enemy thing and If the Siege of Mandalore and 2003’s Battle of Coruscant were in ROTS, SoM get reanimated.

I want the Bad Batch arc on Kashyyk with Yoda to be made into a direct-to-Disney+ movie

What if Rebels had the same art/animation style as Clone Wars? Overall I really do like the style of rebels, but when characters like Yoda and Bo Katan make their respective appearances they look bizarre because we’re so familiar with how they look in Clone Wars. This is clearly highly impractical; I was just wondering.

How would you cast the bad batch? Echo could easily be Temuera Morrison with some de-aging, but the rest are all unique in appearance.

Oh, I’d even just be chill with an animated movie… just would find Yoda and them interacting to be interesting.

But live-action? Hmm. The kid who played Boba, if he’s talented enough, could play them all. Temuera could play them all… I think in live action you’d have to to face/body swapping, which would drive up the budget a bit. Luckily, with Clones ageing twice as fast as normal humans, there’s some flexibility between casting.

And speaking of the rejected arcs, other Spearatist Leaders that weren’t in TCW should’ve gotten big roles.

Like the banking clan? Darth Plagueis was of the same race so it would be cool if their were connections to him made somehow

I’m into series 3 now and the best elements are still the villains and the clones. Actual Jedi? Not so much. I feel like Anakin and Obiwan are still doing their wooden PT schtick and nothing has clicked with Ahsoka.

It takes a bit with her. When she starts looking at the war in more grey and complicated terms than the other Jedi is what kicks it off. The crescendo is when she’s kicked out of the Jedi Order and what comes after, including her role in Rebels.

Don’t worry season 4 is where the series starts to pick up. The Ahsoka framed arc is where Ahsoka starts being a much more likeable character.

EDIT: and where she starts looking at the war in more grey and complicated terms 😉

I wish there are deleted scenes of the Siege of Mandalore and illustraed screenplays for them.

I don’t think they made much more from it, to my knowledge. That arc was pretty much what they planned it to be.

But in one of the featurettes, there’s actually BTS footage of Ashley Eckstein recording her lines. There is a cut line that she recorded which is “The only question is, who finishes their mission first.”. That line never make in the final version.
