MoMA Screens Animation in Jan.

The Dave Fleischer-directed Popeye cartoons have been recently restored by the museum with funding from the Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Fund.

The lineup will feature
Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor (1936)
Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba’s Forty Thieves (1937)
Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp (1939)

THUNDERBEAN BD 2020
Popeye Meets Sindbad. It’s from a lovely (and well-loved) 35mm Nitrate/ IB Technicolor print.
& Ali Baba’s Forty Thieves.

THUNDERBEAN DVD 2005
Including all three of the extra-length color “specials”

Each of these cartoons have been digitally remastered from original 35mm material and digitally restored to their original brilliance.
