Now that sounds like a bold idea.

If you could somehow make Hartnell’s speech from the close of The Massacre work as his pre-regeneration speech, that’d be cool too.

Yeah, his speech from The Massacre would make for amazing last words, but the problem is Ben and Polly need to stick around. I guess you could do like The Massacre does and have them rush in right after. They could be absent for Masterplan that way. Might be kinda awkward, though.

Oh and I think the Second Doctor would need a new post-regeneration story, as it’d be weird having two Dalek stories back to back. I guess you’d have to skip to The Highlanders to introduce Jamie, but then wherever you put Power of the Daleks you’ll need to account for his absence. Honestly, the dream scenario would be having The Tenth Planet as his opener to introduce his greatest foe, but that’s probably not possible.

One more thing, I’d love it if upon regenerating, Hartnell glowed yellow, despite the rest of the show being black and white. Would be visually striking and a nice nod to the Modern Series.

I was hoping we’d get that in Twice Upon a Time’, either refilmed with Bradley or colourised and enhanced footage of Hartnel. They teased it several times with the golden wisps coming from his hands but we never got as far as seeing the full thing.

Behold, a new Eighth Doctor adventure.

Just swap out the instances of “Clarence” for “Doctor”, add the Doctor Who opening, remove the bit about Clarence having nothing left to steal, and remove the intro and outro with the kid falling asleep, and voila, a new Eighth Doctor story onscreen.

My partner and I just recently finished getting through Whoflix’s catalog, skipping the ones we felt weren’t worth it. He does a great job of condensing the stories and cutting out filler. He does also tend to remove some of the comedy and other quirks to streamline the story. I was thinking about giving some edits a try myself. My idea was to showcase the Classic series in an accessible way that makes 50 years of television a little easier to get through.

I was thinking of focusing on the best overall quality episodes, ones that introduce long-term elements, etc. It would be a version for someone who wants to go back, see what the show was like, for the good and the bad, without having to sit through it for months. I was thinking to get through some of the clunkers, one could just do some kind of montage of off-screen adventures, showing what happened in that time in between episodes. That way you do have to watch one episode just to see a character leave, for example.

Regardless, I’d be curious to see what you guys come up with and would be happy to help if I can. I’m pretty good with audio work.

People have kinda shrugged off Whoflix since he went on a temper tantrum, but I haven’t heard people praise his edits much regardless.

Oh, agreed. I was actually disappointed to find he was the only full show fan-editor, as I don’t agree with him on a good deal of things. I only settled on him because we just wanted to skim through the classics as quickly as we could.

Overall they are solid edits, but for me personally, I would’ve liked as much Doctor in the Tardis as possible and he cuts a lot of that out for the story of the week. Scenes like Leela and K-9 playing chess are the type of bits I want to watch the old series for, but his edits are much more “Let’s just get through the plot”

His edits also vary in length which can get tedious, as it makes it harder to bingewatch. You don’t want to dive into a 45 minute episode and then get stuck on one that is and hour and a half. Honestly, in many cases, I feel like scenes could just be sped up to get through them quicker and still receive the same impact.

So I’ve been messing around with “Hell Bent” and “The Doctor Falls”, and in both instances I wound up using the ending of ‘The Husbands on River Song’ on them. They work quite well.

For the Hell Bent version, you really just edit out Clara and Ashidlr’s conversation and also take out the soundtrack for when Twelve enters the TARDIS, then cut away from him standing in the ship’s interior to a shot of River emerging from the TARDIS into the restaurant near the singing towers, (indicating a passage of time without some cheesy ‘sometime later’ caption) and trim a few things here and there (remove River interacting with Nardole and the other guy in the robot suit), from there it works fair well.

The “Husbands” ending for Doctor Falls made for a better ending, largely because it’s an ending on top of another altered ending. As we know, The Doctor Falls ends on The Doctor resisting regeneration and meeting his first incarnation. In my cut, I infer that Bill’s girlfriend Heather ‘heals’ The Doctor and puts them both back on Earth where they spend the evening talking about Missy and eating chips (borrowing a flashback from “World Enough and Time”), after they discuss the Time Lords, we cut to River coming out of the TARDIS and steps into the restaurant near the singing towers.

This would probably require potential minor re-edits of earlier series ten episodes, possibly ‘Extremis’ to remove any reference of ‘Domestic Bliss On Delrinium’ from Missy. The forwards and backwards narrative of River’s timeline on her end could make it easier to gloss over other things such as Nardole being despatched by River on her final orders to look after The Doctor, which could still occur at any point after The Doctor’s visit in the ‘present’.

Ultimately tried a third take on ‘The Doctor Falls’ where Bill does leave The TARDIS, and Capaldi simply wakes up and doesn’t regenerate. Still used the ‘Husbands’ ending though.

I’m thinking of calling my earlier mentioned edit The Dalek’s Master Plan: Regeneration Edition. Here’s how I think it would go (there were some errors and less details in my last rundown):

  • The Myth Makers but Katarina doesn’t join

  • The Massacre but without the Doctor’s Speech or Steven’s false departure

  • All the Steven and Dodo stories unaltered up until…

  • The Savages but without Steven’s actual departure

  • The Daleks’ Mater Plan 1-6 with Dodo in place of Katarina

  • The War Machines/The Feast of Steven mashup but with Steven’s departure from the Massacre and, get this, Dodo as the hallucination of a guilt-ridden Doctor (she’s in non-missing episodes so this is probably only the only feasible way to account for her death but it works out nicely)

  • The Smugglers unaltered (if you really wanna watch it)

  • The Tenth Planet without the regeneration or hints thereof and with Steven’s return from The Massacre

  • The Daleks’ Master Plan 8-12 with:

    • Ben and Polly added to the cast (not sure what I’ll do about the one non-missing episode)

    • Mavic Chen revealing himself to be the Master (a headcanon of mine that works nicely with and was indeed spawned from the story’s title)

    • Steven’s departure from The Massacre

    • The Doctor’s speech from The Massacre (not sure I’ll deal with Ben and Polly being around when he says “They’re all gone now”)

    • The Doctor’s regeneration from The Tenth Planet (now with color regeneration energy)

Mostly. There are some episodes that aren’t missing, and I’d rather keep them that way.

Someone Reddit pointed out that I forgot about Sara. I guess I’ll leave her with Steven in the 60s.

He went full blown misogynist! I actually felt my heart break as I read his tirade. I ended up walking away from watching everything he had done because it’s all I could think about. The things he said and carried on about are so anti what the Doctor would feel or say and I just couldn’t separate his crappy views from his work.

Also, his edits were nothing special. They were…fine. If anything, as was mentioned before, he’s the only person to tackle the entire series which is no small task by any means. His edits though did create massive plot holes in some instances while he had a few that were pretty solid. All in all, it’s worth checking out since the options of other Who editors is pretty slim, just don’t read his more recent commentaries and you should be fine. The work is a good place for other potential editors to get inspiration from.

I’ve edited numerous versions of ‘Day of the Doctor’ already, and I’ve gotten the notion to try another one that gives Capaldi slightly more to do than just the “piercing eyes” cameo. To achieve this, I’m going to use footage of him on Gallifrey in “Hell Bent”, I’ll try to remove any and all references to the confession dial imprisonment if I can, and create the illusion he’s back on Gallifrey to depose Rassilon and assume command of the Time Lords to lead them through the final days. I also intend for Capaldi to interact with Eccelston, to that end I’m using footage of Chris reciting a war poem for Channel 4 back in 2013.

A while back I saw someone on Reddit suggest replacing Ryan’s grime music in Arachnids in the UK with Anarchy in the UK so that the title’s pun works.

I thought I’d use a few bits and pieces of the episode “Extremis” to maybe expand Capaldi’s role in the pilot episode of the ill-fated spin off ‘Class’, I even created somewhat of a new “next time” trailer that features the imperial daleks and Ace (as a nod to an audio only episode of Class that features them)

I also replaced the opening title music with the 1990s theme for Grange Hill, which fits remarkably well.

I think there’s definitely some use one can make out of the recent “series 24-the collection” trailer reuniting Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford…maybe merge it with the Dalek footage from RTD’s “It’s A Sin”?

Would it be possible to edit Survival in a way so as to lead directly into the TV Movie? I guess the key point would be having Ace leave.

I did toggle a bit with this, I didn’t have Ace ‘exit’ though, I just showed the Master was transported to Skaro
