I don’t think this is intended to be a way of “burying the original,” given that info about the original is still easy to find online. Not everything Disney does has a nefarious motive.
And also, the original Holiday Special is an absolute trash fire, and it doesn’t deserve to be on Disney+ or anywhere else really.
Yet we’ve had preservation projects for it about as long as this site has been around. If anything, this will create more curiousity about the original. Disney would be wise to cash in by releasing it with a tounge in cheek commentary from the surviving cast or a spurious documentary. License the Rifftrax audio while they’re at it.
