Yeah, but even that becomes difficult when you take into account inflation population. Plus the boom in the number of theaters making it easier to see movies. If all these theaters had existed back then, how would viewing patterns change? Also, you must consider the number of younger adults and teens these days with disposable income that they can now use to see movies as opposed to teens of the past. No matter how you look at it, it's very difficult to truly gauge an old movie against a new one. There are just too many factors that have changed. Even the number of tickets sold isn't a good indicator.
