The Essential Star Wars Animated Series Episodes for Movie Marathon Inclusion

Author

Now that the Clone Wars Series is completed, I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on which episodes of Clone Wars (2003), The Clone Wars Series, and Rebels you feel are the most essential to include watching in between the movies. I enjoyed all the series’ start to finish, but to watch in chronological order with the movies, I would prefer to watch only episodes that are more relevant to the characters that tie in with the movies/ main stories of the shows.

So which Show Episodes would you include in such a marathon and in what order would you watch them in?

Yes this would be good info. At present the only one I’d include is the Clone Wars Microseries, as it doesn’t have any big tangents that don’t fold into the movies like TCW series.

My stance on revising fan edits.

The 3rd Season Mortis Arc, the season 6 episodes about the Clone Chips and the one about Syfo-Dias and the Yoda visions. And I think the episodes when Darth Maul returns and the Siege of Mandalore, of course.

I think it would be great to include Ahsoka’s intro but cut the Jabba subplot. Add in something else like clone cadets and the battle of Kamino. Then do Morris. Then do the intro of Savage and Maul. Then Ahsoka leaving. Then the chip episodes, yodas quest, then siege of Mandalore

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

Which 2003 Episodes would you say are the most essential to include?

Agreed on wanting to include Ahsoka’s introduction from the Clone Wars Movies but not wanting to really sit through the whole movie.

What other episodes from Clone Wars 2003 can we include? Definitely the final episode on the Attack on Coruscant. I would place that right before Clone Wars S7- 09 “Old Friends Not Forgotten”.

Rebels- I would definitely incorporate the inclusions of Vader, Ashoka, Maul, and Rex in S2, and Maul and Obi Wan in S3. How can we condense the rest of the series so we can introduce the new characters into the fold and follow their stories to a conclusion before “Rogue One?”

I would add The Clone Wars S7 5-8 as well, as it gives some perspective on an important characters time away from the Jedi before RotS happens.

Here’s an edited list I made for a friend a while ago, of the essential Clone Wars episodes - but this is for someone who’s never seen the show. (Friend in question still hasn’t got past the Umbara arc)

I hope this Google Drive link works. I would have just typed out the episodes to contribute to the thread, but when I was making it, I enjoyed collecting all the images so much that I spent ages doing it, so now I figure I should just send the original document.

The link worked for me. That looks great! Nice work. Definitely high quality Star Wars in my opinion.

I would like to someday sit down and watch all of Droids. Not sure i would say its essential for a movie marathon.

I also like to watch the entirety of clone wars minus the new season which isn’t on blu ray or digital outside of Disney plus. I like to watch the Micro series and also to watch Rebels.

Here’s a spreadsheet I made. It covers all of Clone Wars S1-6 and Rebels. I have notes indicating which episodes are part of which characters’ arcs. The Smudger movie edits and CW fortune cookies are included as a bonus. Arcs that were planned but cancelled with the show when Star Wars was acquired by Disney are included with light grey for those that were adapted into another medium and dark grey for those that never saw the light of day in any form. I haven’t seen Resistance or CW S7 so their documentation is very rudimentary and incomplete.

I wonder how many people refuse to spend money on a streaming service because they believe they’re supporting physical media, but are spending $70/month on a cable bill.

I enjoyed doing the Best of TCW list so much that I’ve made a similar one for Star Wars Rebels. Only thing is, this is a list intended for someone who’s never watched the show before, wants to watch it but not the whole thing. For a movie marathon I would cut it down a hell of a lot.

My absolute favourite episodes of Rebels would be:

  • Spark of Rebellion 1 & 2
  • Empire Day
  • Gathering Forces
  • Shroud of Darkness
  • Twilight of the Apprentice 1 & 2
  • Trials of the Darksaber
  • Through Imperial Eyes
  • Twin Suns
  • Jedi Night
  • Wolves and a Door
  • A World Between Worlds
  • Family Reunion and Farewell

And to be honest, if I was doing a movie marathon, I’d probably just watch Spark of Rebellion, Twilight of the Apprentice and the series finale. That would do it.
