Well, if you’re going to merge the threads, then at least change the title from “Idea: The Clone Wars - A Six-Film Saga” to “The Clone Wars Saga (Released)”. Because it’s not really just an idea anymore since it exists now. That’s the reason I made a new thread, since this website doesn’t have a way to change thread titles. Thanks!

I went ahead and changed the title for you but you can change the title of the thread yourself here:

I don’t guess I ever noticed that there was a second Edit button. I always press the top one that only allows editing the post’s text. Sorry about the misunderstanding!

Which arcs did you settle on covering, in the end? Latest I can see, some were still up in the air.

I updated the original post, and shared the runtimes and arcs covered. All the necessary information can be found there.

So, I finished watching Epsiode I - Path of the Padawan:

First of all, i lift my hat. Really great work. The story per se flows insanely good, I personally never got bored, right amount of humor left. I am happy.

I have some minor issues. You already stated that you’re aware of some unfortunate transitions here and there. So my observations:

  • opening crawl
did you use the right angle for the floating text? It seems off. Also the text disappears to fast, let it fade more. If necessary use additional footage for a transition from the floating text to the space or a new scene

  • Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting Ventress
it is obvious there is footage missing e.g. as ventress is Running up the stairs and the next shot is, that she’s sitting and lurking both to come closer. Add footage back in.

  • 0:51:11
Beforehand they talking about to go to a council meeting and than there is a cut to an mission briefing. I’m afraid this don’t work, you’ve to add the council meeting.

  • 1:12:04
Anakin told the clone to make the ships ready, to be prepared if obi-wan asks for their help. You should add his call for help, because it is strange to see Anakin and Ashoka at the medical station and in the scene afterwards onboard of the ship. The same counts for master plo koon. The transition at 1:12:57 is too hard, somehow make it smoother.

  • 1:12:32
did you do some kind of color correction? If so, the whites are too bright

  • 1:34:12
the cut to the new scene is also too hard. Add footage of obi-wan, anakin, padme back in and make the transition smoother

  • 1:54:59 to 1:55:00
again, the cut is too hard, add source material and fade smoothly

Anything else is fine and works well, from my perspective

Some other questions:
Which application do you use for editing? Is it possible for you to do 1080p? Could you render with less compression, so the files will be bigger but contain more quality (e.g. up to 10 Gb per episode) and use mkv as target file?

Thanks for your review! I appreciate the compliments and I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I made the opening crawl using an app so I didn’t have any control over the angle. I thought it looked the most accurate of the crawl creators I could find though.

I also have no idea how to pan down from the crawl to space, especially since most Clone Wars episodes do not begin in space. But I definitely would’ve like to have smoother transitions from the crawls if I was more skilled in editing. Smudger9’s edits are really good with space transitions but I’m nowhere near as skilled of editor as he is lol

  • Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting Ventress
it is obvious there is footage missing e.g. as ventress is Running up the stairs and the next shot is, that she’s sitting and lurking both to come closer. Add footage back in.

I had to cut a lot of footage because during that fight a lot of dialogue references the clone-traitor plot from the original episode, which wouldn’t make sense here since I cut that storyline. Ventress’s floor thing was cut kind of weirdly originally too, but it was broken up by the clone scenes I removed. I also cut the silly sequence where Ventress throws books at Obi-Wan and Anakin (like that’s going to do anything to a Jedi lol).

Sorry, but I didn’t edit the main content of those episodes. The council meeting scene doesn’t exist unfortunately, or else I would put it in there.

This is just another problem with transitioning between episodes without the narration. Obi-Wan’s call for help is never shown in the episodes, only mentioned in narration so I couldn’t use it. I’ve noticed that this show is a bit hard to edit into films because major plot points are introduced via opening narration pretty often.

  • 1:12:32

I didn’t do any color correction on my edits. That’s just the original coloring. But I agree there’s kind of a weird coloring during that scene.

  • 1:34:12
the cut to the new scene is also too hard. Add footage of obi-wan, anakin, padme back in and make the transition smoother

That’s where the original episode ended. I think I just need a fade to black and then maybe cut to the Republic fleet emerging from hyperspace outside Geonosis for a better transition.

  • 1:54:59 to 1:55:00
again, the cut is too hard, add source material and fade smoothly

I’d probably just add a fade-to-black here. I should have utilized the fade-to-black technique more when making this film, because it works well to show a passage of time and makes for an easier transition between episodes. The following installments are better about episode transitions I believe.

Anything else is fine and works well, from my perspective

I use iMovie on my iPad, which definitely isn’t the best editing software. It was only allowing me the 720p .MOV option so I had to go with that. Though I would’ve liked to render in higher quality, it just wasn’t really an option with my software.

Ah, ok. Of course you don´t have to be able to edit like smudger9 😄 Step by step.

Mh, fair enough. Didn´t recall the episode exactly, but seems to be a tough one for editing.

Unbelievable 😄 What did they thought by writing this.

Same as above 😄

That sounds good, audio fade out is also important. It ends abruptly.

kind of sad, but not your fault. You´re not obligated to purchase a video editor.

Tomorrow i´ll be watching epsiode II and provide my impressions.

Okay, thanks for understanding! : ) I hope you enjoy Episode II. Here’s a warning in advance: the transition between the Mandalore (Season 3) arc and Lux Bonteri arc is a bit rough. I forgot to put a fade to black here too, but I think it needs one because Ahsoka’s character design changes to her more mature look in the Lux Bonteri arc.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

EPISODE VI - FATE OF THE REPUBLIC is temporarily unavailable. I am fixing audio issues with the film tonight, and the fixed version will be released soon.

The updated version of EPISODE VI - FATE OF THE REPUBLIC with fixed audio issues has finally been released. If you have downloaded the previous version, I kindly ask that you delete it and watch the new version instead.

Unfortunately, the video quality has dropped slightly as a side effect of the method I used to correct the audio, but these are free amateur fanedits, so please don’t expect the best video quality lol 😂

Thanks for the update, still have to watch episode II🤪

FINAL UPDATE FOR EPISODE VI:

Okay, so last night I successfully made a third and final version of EPISODE VI - FATE OF THE REPUBLIC. This version has both high quality audio and video, because I finally found a way to maintain the quality of both!
It’s in the folder where the old one used to be. If you’ve downloaded my edits, please download the new final version of Episode VI instead for the best possible experience! Thanks!

UPDATE (AGAIN): Actually please wait on downloading this! I put two of the episodes in the wrong order (because I’m an idiot). Let me fix that first…

FINAL, FINAL UPDATE FOR EPISODE VI:

Okay, so I corrected the messed-up episode order for FATE OF THE REPUBLIC. The final fixed version is now available for download!

Hey! I have released an updated version of EPISODE I - PATH OF THE PADAWAN. I improved episode transitions, corrected jarring cuts, fixed an audio channel issue with the Clone Wars film segment, and added a short flashback (originally from a Season 5 intro sequence) that features young Ahsoka and Master Plo Koon.

Damn, you are fast 😄 Now i have to watch epsiode I again first^^

Lol 😂 You really don’t have to, I didn’t change much. Just replaced a few hard cuts with fade-to-blacks. The short new Ahsoka flashback is at 38:20 if you want to watch it. : ) The new arc transition between Malevolence and Geonosis is at 1 hour and 34 minutes. The added music doesn’t flow as well as I’d like there, but iMovie seems to move it around every time I render for some reason.
So I just ended up giving up after rendering the whole thing three times to no avail lol 😂

As before i´ll mention technical aspects of your edit, since content wise it is and should be your own thing.

Your additions and corrections for episode I are working so far.

Episode II - Corruption of Mandalore

  • Crawl --> maybe without the exclamation mark. SW never used this kind of thing, but if you want to keep it, just do so

  • Transitions:
    –> 0:22:49 - too abrupt
–> 1:04:30 - perhaps use an audio fade out/fade in to the next scene
    –> 1:46:25 - hard abrupt cut
    –> 1:48:12, 1:48:12 - same here
–> 1:49:18 - use a audio fade out or fade in
    –> 1:50:47, 1:53:44, 1:57:14, 1:57:54 - same here

Episode II - Corruption of Mandalore

  • Crawl --> maybe without the exclamation mark. SW never used this kind of thing, but if you want to keep it, just do so

Revenge of the Sith’s crawl begins with “War!” and The Rise of Skywalker begins with “The dead speak!”, so personally I think the exclamation point works fine. This crawl is the also the only time I used an exclamation point in all six crawls, so it’s low usage should fit pretty well with traditional Star Wars punctuation.

  • Transitions:
    –> 0:22:49 - too abrupt
–> 1:04:30 - perhaps use an audio fade out/fade in to the next scene
    –> 1:46:25 - hard abrupt cut

    –> 1:50:47, 1:53:44, 1:57:14, 1:57:54 - same here

Thanks for letting me know about these faulty transitions. I’m not really planning on doing any more editing for a while, because I got kind of burnt out after spending a lot of time making these. So the transitions probably won’t be fixed for a while.
All of the episodes besides Episode I (updated) and Episode VI have abrupt cuts, but I made edits 2-4 before I received any feedback on my transitions so I didn’t know the best way to edit them. I’ve edited 1 & 6 since I received feedback, so those are edited better.

Also, I wanted to ask if you enjoyed CORRUPTION ON MANDALORE? You gave a pretty good review of PATH OF THE PADAWAN, so I just wanted to see if you felt the same way about this installment.

So, I changed my mind and decided to fix the transitions for episodes II, III, IV, and V. I’m working on them now. I’ll let you all know when they’re done and uploaded!

The updated final versions of THE CLONE WARS SAGA have been uploaded to the folder. Please download these and replace your old versions. : ) I haven’t changed Episodes I and VI since their last updates (Episode I’s last update was on the 11th, Episode VI’s was on the 9th), but I remade all four other films today (the 15th) with improved episode transitions.
The new versions have much better episode transitions and some other additions. These will be the final updates to these films, because I don’t think there’s anything else I’d like to change at this point.
