This will be the first Star Wars movie I’m not buying. I thought it was reasonably entertaining, but forgettable when I saw it in the theatre. TLJ, the subsequent controversy, and Solo really made me skeptical about the franchise’s future. Star Wars isn’t special anymore, and the prospect of a never ending supply of films, strongly permeated by a sense of dejá vu isn’t very appealing to me. I can only view Solo as the first in a long line of mediocre, low stakes cash grabs thriving mostly on nostalgia and eye candy, and I’m not jumping on that bandwagon.

I have to say i went back and watched this again and i liked it a lot better than the first time i watched it.
Alden does a pretty good Harrison impression in one or two scenes. And of course Donald Glover was fantastic.
I think this film was unfairly maligned due to the Last Jedi backlash. Ron Howard is a talented guy and he got good performances out of the actors. I really liked Woody Harrelson and Thandie Newton. And the stand out by far and most interesting character for me wasn’t Han at all it was Enfys Nest.

Agree on all points. It needed a fresh start as opposed to a very messy late-production course correction.

Also to echo, the finest part of the film (For me) is envy’s. I’m truly sorry the film was such a mess and failure. We are being cheated out of more Enfys. Also, no issue with Alden. He’d be fine in a sequel. It’s the film itself that was such a mess.

I have very mixed feelings about Solo. Some of the ideas are really good and enjoyable like the dynamic between Han and Qi’ra and the reveal of who Enfys Nest really is but the execution of other ideas is its downfall like it feeling like a checklist on Han’s backstory in the Original Trilogy.

The main problem for me however is I don’t like how it feels very modern and topical. Star Wars has always been timeless in its approach to the stories themselves.

All and all it’s okay I guess.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Solo is my lest favorite of the new movies, but I still enjoyed it. Despite my issues with it, I’d definitely be up for it if they continued it as a Disney+ series or made a movie sequel.
