We will probably see bits of things we were never supposed to see, like edges of sets, lighting rigs, cables, and other equipment.

Is the film clean without ‘bits of things’?

This project looks incredible. You guys are so dedicated. I sadly don’t get too much time to keep up with projects to do with movies as most of my free time if filled with J. R. R. Tolkien research activities.

I looked around the site but could not see an answer, so may I ask if anybody knows of a project to create an ‘international’ cut from the new 4K release? I was like many others quite annoyed by Warner’s lack of credibility by releasing the US cut in 4K to all markets. There should be both in 4K.

I’m surprised at how warm the color temp for the film stock is overall! It’s like the Overlook is more inviting than ever before, creep tastic 😃

Keep in mind this is the result of a lot of work on a very red faded print. The first and last reels (not shown here) need more done to them.

Ah, gotcha gotcha. Do you think if it wasn’t faded, it would look similar to the 4k bluray or would be more of a cooler temp? I’m curious if that restoration is more white balanced corrected or not.

Do you have any plans to include a 16mm version of Vivian Kubrick’s Making the Shining?

IIRC, frames from various non faded prints (posted on instagram) on modern film stock have been used as a guide.

If a 16mm print was actually out there to be had, that would be great. The famous blood elevator trailer was attached to the print and will be included. It’s slightly different, as it ends with a coming this summer tag as opposed to a still promoting the King novel.

I missed out on an ebay auction of a vintage U-matic tape of Vivian’s doc a couple years back, but I had doubts about the tape’s condition, or whether it was NTSC as the seller was in South America.

I’m super interested in this project still. If anyone knows of anyway I can help that would be great. I’m currently putting together a retrospective documentary about the Shining.

To quote a certain Mr. Torrance, I’m intrigued!

I may be the only one wondering this but pushes glasses up nose which particular version of the Saul Bass Warner logo does this have at the start? Apparently some prints of this film have a slightly different version than usual for some reason (slightly different typeface and slightly different text underneath the logo). Really annoys me that Warner now replaces the logos instead of doing what they used to do and just adding the new logo on the start then playing the film including the original logo.

Most likely clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of colour about me anywhere #NoneMoreGoth

Mind you, this is an old screencap from a few years back.

I’ve been trying to color correct some of the clips using the open matte DVD as a reference.

Reel 7 Clip: https://we.tl/Vf3yTnMhfR

I used the LUT from this scene and then used it for another reel, made a few tweaks, and got this result:

Before and after:

When the LUT is applied to most of the other clips, the colors can get pretty close to the DVD. It’s far from perfect but it’s a start.

I have one important question. I’d like to understand one thing. As we can see, the picture shows the optical soundtrack but why those two bars?

For example, in Becky Sharp (1935) I only see one bar:

So, original 1980 mono soundtrack must be 1.0 or 2.0?
