Awesome work on the trailer! Having the political debate on the screens is a brilliant idea.

Thankyou! I still wanna smooth out some stuff and find appropriate alien text for the screens (Other than or along with english script saying Corusant 9 News). I want to get more creative and extensive with it in the next two movies as the war ramps up. I think its a good way to make use of the deleted scene from ATOC where Padame addresses the senate over the assassination attempt. I want to figure out some more propaganda based ones too.

That’s a great idea too.

Mind if I use it for some sequel edits too? The concept of using screens for exposition is a good one.

Absolutely! I got the idea cause there’s little flying cameras circling them as they talk, so seemed like a good way to break up the stiff council scenes while showing a little more of the world the the impact of things. That’s why id like the videos to become more propaganda like as it builds to Ep III. I’ve even considered trying to film or get some one to film them selves in make up maybe doing news reports talking about food lines, military crack downs in the city, curfews, etc.

This is looking Fabulous.
I was wondering if you could do a version that doesn’t cut anything from the films, plot and story wise. That way you’re Edits could be used as a base for others.

Lots to do but a look at some updates. Diplomatic tv, de-aged Dooku at council and pyre, added saber flicker to all sabers, Sidious and the younglings, and changed saber clash look. Still experimenting with color grading on various scenes, like ATOC arena (trying to get a more natural look, but also trying to bring out the darker tones other than just upping the black levels.). I also added a glow to sith eyes and experimenting with a build up of energy in Old Seev before he fires his lightening. Also greyed his skin some and sharpened his wrinkles some. Not really working on the other two right now, just scenes that appear in the trailer for conceptual purposes.

First of all, nice concepts that you got for these specific scenes.
De-Aged Dooku looks good, palps sith eyes very nice (a bit to bright in my opinion), awesome space shot of Naboo with the city lights (but what is the greenish glow?).
The explosions at 1:31 are inadequate, meaning it doesn’t fit to the rest of the scene it feels very c-edited. But I assume you’ll be working on that.
Personally I don’t like the approach with the „building up energy in his face and eyes when shooting“, stands out to much.

I’m looking forward to your project:)

Thank you.
Sith eyes will be reduced some, and then i wanted to make the energy build up much more subtle too. If it still isn’t getting traction with folks then ill probably cut it, just an idea i wanted to try.
The green glow on Naboo in the opening shot (Only time its there in the film) is the aurora/ northern lights. I tried to make it look like video from the space station. Though i still want to tweak the planet, especially its edges and glow to look more Star Wars like.
The whole attack on Theed and rescuing of the queen is still being worked on, both the explosions, smoke speeds and looks, fire/ruble damage, color grading, etc. Theres still new scenes that will be included hopefully too with dog fighting in the sky with fighter jets.
Theres masking or tracking done in the movie too that will be redone, as ive learned better techniques.
Still need to get the flare plug in to redo a lot of the flares. I just recently added in the saber flicker and have been tweaking the sabers masking/glow gradually too.

I try to update ideas and things im trying in the trailers to get feed back on the look of things. So expect lots more tweaking, and feel free to give input.

Wow that’s amazing! It says a lot that you’ve got people hyped for the prequels 😄

I adhere to idir’s idea of releasing a more conservative edition that retains the visual or stylistic changes (sabers, explosions, Senate broadcasts, etc).

Do you plan to do a custom special edition for Machete viewing?

There will be a Purist Cut, Machete Cut, and Revised Edition. I personally like the Machete Order as it keeps Luke the center of the story, but the Purist cut and Revised Editions will be all 3 as individual films. One paced and cut my way, the other the way the Original films play out for purist who just want the original scenes touched up. Thats the plan so far.

Thank you haha i think the sequel trilogy helped show the pro’s of the prequel haha the prequels really do have a good story. I just think the digital fx weren’t ready yet and Lucas should have help directing. Just too much for one man to focus on and i think the films suffered from his split attention. (vfx, sound, music, writing, directing, art direction, etc)

So far there are the 3 planned cuts, but ill likely put the scenes up individually for people to do with as they please. The sabers ill just include as a separate overlay file so the movie can be color graded as they want while not interfering with the sabers. (The sabers on a black screen that you set as a screen in compositing.)

The purist cut won’t have deleted scenes for example, and some people may still want those scenes. As one of the deleted scenes from ATOC will likely be a news broadcast. So the differences between the two version will be substantial enough to make it a pain providing all the scenes any other way.

Something I would like to see is a dirtier/ smokier Mos Espa, closer to the concept art. The same with slave hovels, I feel they should be dimly lit, not warm and inviting. During the sand storm, the lights should flicker. The Phantom Menace makes slavery look far too pleasant. We should be rooting for Anakin to escape this environment and feel his pain at leaving his mother there.

I could try for something like that

Awesome.

I think the idea of having large ships hovering above Mos Espa could be interesting and further differentiate it from Mos Eisley. Also, adding things to the soundscape like the distant sounds of laser fire etc.

Keep up the good work, I’m loving each update on this project!

Thank you! The laser blast i could do with someones death scream (Maybe a good wilhelm scream) in the back ground. Not sure what you mean by ships in the sky tho. I don’t wan’t to imply imperial control or anything. Lawlessness i like, but id need more context for the ships. I was thinking about sneaking a mandalorian in somewhere. Not the main guy but one of the other ones maybe if i can

I was thinking more like freighters/ cargo ships. I like the visual of Anakin’s dream being just out of reach. Similar to the planes flying over Rick’s cafe in Casablanca.

Ahhh ok. I have a scene in mind i want to try to create (binary sunset moment for Ani) that i think it would go good in. Plus i can try to add more traffic possibly to the sky in other shots.

Oh nice, Anakin definitely needs his own binary sunset moment.

I like the idea, as well as try to show the hard life under slavery.

Always found it weird Lucas did NOT do anything like that with Anakin when introducing him. Having the most mythological important character’s first visual appearance walking around a shop seems so mundane.

Luke’s first appearance was pretty mundane too. I think it was intentional in both cases, to show that greatness comes from humble origins.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Agreed, but at least with Luke we were told about him before he went off on his journey. His feelings of being trapped, not being able to escape, wanting to join his friends, wanting to join the rebellion, etc. With Anakin, we don’t really get anything. Not any idea that he longs to be a jedi, or leave where hes at, or that he lives a horrible slave life that differs from Lukes safe life with his uncle.

Anakin needs a broom boy moment staring at a duel sunset as ships are leaving the planet i think, before he meets Quigon and gang. Would help when he calls out Quigon as being a Jedi.

I hadn’t thought about it like that, but that makes sense.

No, sorry if it my meaning wasn’t clear. I didn’t mean storyline wise. I meant imagery and theme wise, which are Lucas’ talents.

There was no “boom boy” scene for young Anakin. Like having him stare up at the twin suns, an extremely fitting and appropriate parallel to Luke’s iconic scene, yearning for more. Luke has a lot of iconic imagery associated with him; everyone knows the Binary Sun theme by heart and seeing him stare up into space. There was nothing like that with kid Anakin in Phantom.

Part of the problem of the prequels was that Anakin wasn’t that relatable as an archetype. For a “hero’s fall” to be emotionally resonant, he has to actually be a likeable hero.

We do get some idea that he wanted to be a Jedi, when he said “I had a dream I was a Jedi. I came back and freed all the slaves.”
