The lack of Prequel connections bothers me the most with this trilogy. Someone asked JJ Abram’s why there wasn’t many and all he said was that Rey deflecting force lightning was a prequels reference, so stupid if you ask me. Deflecting force lightning is just common Star Wars knowledge.

Yeah, when they showed that ending montage of star destroyers going down and it had two OT planets and JJ’s baby Jakku, it was 100% clear that he wanted nothing to do with the prequels.

They dropped the vase. The bright side of course is that piecing it back together is our hobby.

Palpatine’s very presence in this movie derailed the finale of the Sequels’ internal story just to appease the Prequel Memes crowd. We would have been better off with even fewer Prequel references than what we got.

I kind of get the feeling he originally intended Hosnian Prime to be Coruscant but LFL stepped in on that.

That would have felt more like a middle finger to the prequel era than a wink to the fans lol

One of the things I loved the most about the scrapped scripts for DOTF were the fact that Coruscant played a big part in them.

Also here’s an idea to make the lightspeed skipping talk feel less out of nowhere. Finn would have to be removed from the background of the cockpit and his voice processed to sound like it’s coming over the intercom. The music edit is also pretty rough and could hopefully be done better: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x5ShgpQTW1F45pNhWtahLPnlKkuPxW_3/view?usp=sharing

If it’s doable this would be such a clever fix, clearly making the hasty jump through the ice a “lightspeed skip”. It even makes Chewie’s roar cut less awkwardly than the theatrical version.

That’s what I’m saying. He’s never been a fan of the prequels.

Hmmmmm… it still feels weird to refer to jumping to lightspeed right after physically bursting through a barrier as ‘lightspeed skipping.’

If poppasketti wishes to share the clip, he showed me something he did to show the TIEs continue along their trajectory without jumping to lightspeed. However, that would fit into an Option A scenario.

Option A) The company breaks through the ice wall and enters hyperspace, ending the scene. TIEs may or may not be seen following, though they do not enter hyperspace. Then, when they arrive at base, reference to lightspeed skipping is removed. Rey and Poe start to argue in medium closeups while Finn presumably walks toward them, asks them to calm down, and they proceed to talk about the spy.

Option B) The company breaks through the ice wall and enters hyperspace, followed into hyperspace by TIEs like one second later, ending the scene. Then, when they arrive at base, they refer to “lightspeed skipping,” evidently something Poe must have done to evade the TIEs offscreen. Rey and Finn hug, Finn uses sarcasm, etc.

I like Option A for restoring a sense of, well, SENSE to how hyperspace works. TLJ doesn’t seem to leave room for TIEs that can instantly chase the Falcon into hyperspace one second later. Even if Option B were what was put into theaters, I still would probably have fan edited Option A into existence, honestly.

However, Option B is still way better than the theatrical. So, I’ll take it if it is needed to sell the removal of the main lightspeed skipping sequence.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Great job Dude, Not sure if you noticed but there is a large clone dot on Poes fringe in the 1st and second frame.

With what we have, I still think Option A works better, despite the fact that you have to cut some banter. Option B to me is really no better than just showing the lightspeed skipping. The only other thing I could imagine lightspeed skipping to be is ramming through the ice wall at light speed, kind of like a mini Holdo maneuver. It would require some FX work though.

I’m on board for option A.

Maybe Rey says something instead of “lightspeed skipping?”

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”

Are you talking about the round lighting panel in the room behind the falcon cockpit? In any case, I took another look and made a small adjustment anyway, because anytime I look at a shot I want to make a change!

Sure thing! This came about because I had some free time yesterday while there was conversation here about having the ties break off from the Falcon chase after it jumps to hyperspace.

Would it be possible for them to abruptly break apart, sort of like how a TIE in TFA breaks from chasing POE right after he enters the rip in the thermal oscillator? Like there’s no point going straight anymore since their prey is totally gone?

My stance on revising fan edits.

I’m for option B. Keeping as much of the dialogue as possible so there aren’t noticeable cuts

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

No, it’s actually on Poes hair. It’s a large brush clone just above Poes right eye. Could be on a separate layer? I’ll send you a screenshot if it helps?

Yes! Please do this! We only need to see them quickly and not all of them.

Either option, so long as Finn’s entry into the scene isn’t as abrupt as it is in V3. Smooth that out and you’re good to go.

Ah, thanks MR!! It was a stray mask, staring me in the face the whole time! It’s fixed now.
