Amazingly enough, despite being the “definitive” mix for the film in 1977, this mono version has faded into obscurity. It was never released on video/laserdisc/DVD (in the US, at least), and is only available through low-quality bootlegs today.
Anyone know if the mono mix would have been used for broadcast on pay cable ca. 1980? Our first copy of Star Wars was taped off of cable TV, and when we finally bought a videotape of it, I remember Beru’s voice became different when we switched to the official released tape.
