Where would “across” come from?

I’m not sure.

Does Palpatine ever say the word unleash?
Unleash the fleet on the galaxy, let it burn”

Otherwise he could say:
Turn the fleet on all the galaxy, let it burn"

*Kylo & Palpatine - “do not make me turn my fleet against you”

Here’s how it would be with just the TIEs shot.

I think this looks the most believable while adding a few more seconds to the movie, anything to somewhat slow down the fast pacing even by a few seconds is a W

It also makes it so that this isn’t the only Star Wars movie that teleports from space straight to the surface. There needs to at least be some visual continuity.

Yeah, I like the version with just the new TIE shot. I feel like it adds a needed buffer between the two shots and looks seamless.

If you’re set on leaving out the Battlefront footage, this is the way to go.

IMO, I think if you leave out the transports landing, but go straight to the interior shot of the stormtroopers disembarking and then charging into battle, it looks good. I also think muting the Battlefront footage would help, if you were to keep it in.

Strongly agree here. Not that I’m a big fan of the Battlefront stuff, but the landing is the worst part due to the odd speed and camera angle, and there shouldn’t be any voices when they leave so that it flows a bit better into Kylo’s reveal.

It was recently confirmed by (Lucasfilm art manager) Phil Szostack that the scene was filmed and finished but was cut for time.

I hate this so much. I really wonder if they’re ever going to release deleted scenes for TRoS, or if they’re holding out to do a “Special Edition” in a few years.

I don’t know if anybody has suggested this yet, but I have an idea for extra footage that could potentially be put in to smoothen the pacing. When rey and the others escape pasaana in Ochi’s ship, the next time we see the falcon it’s being flown to the first orders Star destroyer, and ren talks to the emperor. There is a deleted scene from the force awakens where kylo is in the falcon searching it, and he goes up to the pilot seat, clearly thinking about his dad. Since the falcons abandoned on pasaana, we could add this scene in so kylo is the one who flies the falcon back, and he hears voices of his dad/mom when he is in the falcon. This could be done with some vfx on his helmet to make the red cracks on it, and some color correction so it looks like pasaana when he is in the cockpit.

That’s a really interesting idea. I wonder if his TFA outfit would be too much of an issue, though. The helmet is missing the red cracks, sure, but his cloak in TFA is completely different as well, and there’s also a potential continuity issue of him not wearing his helmet in the previous Pasaana scenes.

There are snowtroopers in the scene too, which would severely limit the available shots or require even more intense special effects editing.

This would also add onto bens redemption arc, teasing before the actual Han vision scene

Actually, the Last Jedi does it too. That’s one of the reasons I wished they had left in the Alternate Opening, where Finn waking up in the dome is the first shot.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Ehhh. I was actually okay with it in TLJ. Reason being is that there are ships going directly down to the surface and the camera sort of follows them.

The TLJ beginning is fine. I like that it kept one of the oldest Star Wars tropes, that is, always opening with a planet and at least one spaceship.

It may be the best way to connect the scorched forest to a more familiar Mustafar, without having to recycle a Rogue One shot.

I threw together a SUPER rough cut in the default Windows editor of how this would look.

What is left to do for v1?

Not a great deal. You can look at the first post and see what does not have a check mark next to it. Most of what remains at this point are things needed from other people that are still being worked on. Also, since I’m crazy busy and have a full schedule all the time, I’m hoping we can give this thing a good gestation period in order to avoid doing a V2. Even if that means putting out a serious workprint with good specs, just not doing subtitles and commentary and all that other stuff.

I like the battlefront footage, but I don’t want to throw half the viewing audience. The people that I showed this to that I know in real life were themselves split along the lines of people who play video games and people who don’t. I don’t know what it is about that footage, but if it is going to be drawing to a number of people I’d prefer not to include it in the very first scene. Just having the one shot of the TIEs added works better than I imagined it would. So I’m happy for the TIE fighters to show up, have a drum solo for a minute, and then proceed with the movie.
