The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released) — Page 21

I guess I never said so, but ROTJ: Custom SE is now available.

I’m considering it finished, but leave the door open to include a tweaked Sarlacc (SE tentacles but no beak) if Ridley elects to go about the tedium required.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Just watched it. Thanks so much to you and everyone involved for the work. My go to version of Jedi now.

Still hoping some day for a custom special edition of IV and V with the 2020 UHD source. I emjoyed D+77 and D+80, but I do really like some of the SE changes and would love to see the newer scan but with better coloring.

I like the idea of blending Kijimi and Alderaan’s explosions to remove the shock wave.

It was attempted, and poppasketti did as well as it could be done, but it just doesn’t work. They’re too different and occur as very different scale and/or speeds.

I think it would be easy to sync the Japanese 97SE LD subs for Empire.

Hey, Hal, I have two things to ask.

First, when do you think your edit of Return of the Jedi will make its way to fanedit.org?

Second, I wanted to ask why you reverted the second Death Star’s explosion to its original state. I know someone here probably discussed this with you, but I wanted to know as I loved the look in the Special Edition of the explosion ring chasing after the Falcon as it flies off.

Well I’m not a fan of the shockwaves anyway, and I didn’t really have great ways to remove the other two. I didn’t want the battle of Yavin to only have one OOT shot at the most critical moment. So I removed the DSII shockwave so it’s not like all OT and only OT explosions have them.

I tried to list ROTJ on the site but there was a cryptic error that I couldn’t figure out and I haven’t gone back yet to try again.

I get you. I personally liked the shockwaves anyway. As for the IFDB listing, it’ll be up eventually once you get things worked out.

So a big fancy CGI explosion without a shockwave would be okay?

Actually, Adywan has already released a look at what Alderaan’s explosion will be like in HD ANH:R, and yes, there is a quite a magnificent shockwave if I may say so myself:

Sorry for the off-topic that that is a wonderful sample reel.

For seventeen years the renegade Pfhor scoutship jumped between the closely packed stars of the galactic core. And all over the ship, dancing through the wreckage of the Pfhor computer core, Durandal was laughing…

This looks amazing! Could I possibly get a link to these?

It’ll take at least a week to encode and get ready, but I’m preparing a ‘Yub Nub’ version of ROTJ. I’d hate to end up regretting not doing so while I’m still able.

I am glad to give these custom SEs a try once the Yub Nub version is out.

Naboo wasn’t in the 1997 galactic montage, so Wesa Free should naturally be gone because the audio predates that change.
