What does everyone think of other planets added to the falling Star Destroyer scene? Naboo, Coruscant, Utapau?

I have considered that idea.

I did think about adding a few but decided to add Coruscant under Palpatines message near the end.

I definitely would love this if someone could execute it convincingly. I would say Coruscant is a must if we are doing one planet from each trilogy (Coruscant, Bespin or Endor and Jakku) as most have suggested. I’d also like to possible see Naboo, Kashyyyk, Corellia, etc.

I’m also not a huge fan of the over-saturated look of Abrams’ films…

Well then you’re sure to hate the look of 90% of my work.

Haha, your work looks good. It’s just been harder to judge how far I take it when I adjust my edit. I may saturate it more, but it just depends How the full thing feels. Now that I have a first pass on all three films, I need to sit down and watch them to see how I feel about them. My edits are much more conservative than Hal’s, as much as I’m enjoying his changes.

Is there any footage of Coreilla that would work convincingly?

I think some video games may have some good shots.

Would have been sick to have Palpatine hiding in the sith shrine deep below the temple instead of Exogol, right under the noses of the New Republic and The First Order. Imagine the surprise of the destroyers emerging from deep below the surface of the industrial regions of the capital. A true power play.

Judging from this concept art this may have been the case in an early draft.

Okay, now I’m convinced the final sequence should be on Coruscant. My problem with it in DotF was that Rey and Kylo were halfway across the Galaxy from the big battle, but utilizing the Sith shrine beneath the Jedi Temple would be a brilliant way to remedy that. The Sith Citadel could be left as is, but the other 2/3 of the battle would require some FX work. Basically, you’d need to swap out the background. Finn’s mounted assault could be on the street, with defected stormtroopers, while Poe leads the battle in the skies. My one issue is I don’t see the fleet being hidden below Coruscant. Anyway, luckily, the ground isn’t visible in most shots, so it could just be said to be happening in the upper atmosphere. The space horses are visibly in the sky, however. Maybe they could stay there instead of on the streets?

In the 2017 script, Coruscant was used in the place of Exogol. So Palpatine could very well have been deep below the temple.

In the the Art of book it says that Kylo Ren took an elavator down to the deepest levels of the temple…

There may be ways to do matte-painting style shots using the concept art, but that’d be hard.

I’m surprised a lot more editors are not trying to do a delayed Palpatine reveal. Here’s an updated clip from TROS: Resurgence

Delayed Palpatine Reveal: https://streamable.com/3eyw8f

In this clip Papatine’s first reveal in the film is by his voice. Ren’s dialogue is changed during his force convo with Palpatine to make it more antagonistic so he is not following Palpatine’s orders (thanks for the idea once again idir_hh). I added poppasketti’s establishing shot with the TIEs, and I trimmed a silly part on Mustafar when Ren lazily pokes a guy with a sharp thingy.

heil Palpatine!

I just had an idea for something we could do to make Finn’s arc more important:

  • Cut out the interaction between Finn & Jannah from the beginning of the battle of Exegol (the one where she says “how do you know?” and he says “a feeling.”)
  • At the end of the battle, cut out the footage of Finn sensing Rey’s death and later saying “red five is in the air, Rey’s alive”
  • Use Battlefront 2’s Galactic Assault cinematics to show clips of First Order transports fleeing the battle.
  • Create a shot of the Millennium Falcon’s targeting system locking onto one of the transports.
  • Add the shot of Finn sensing Rey’s death here, interspersed with flashbacks of key moments from his escape from the FO.
  • This is the tricky part: Over the clip of him saying “Red five is in the air,” have a soundalike say “Let them fly, they’re not a threat” followed by something along the lines of “they’re afraid” (in place of “Rey’s alive,” which gives us more freedom because that part is said when Finn isn’t on screen).
  • In response to this, add Jannah’s line “How do you know” and Finn’s “a feeling.” Background might need to be changed because they were in a different cockpit when they said this, but I don’t think most people would notice.
  • Add one more shot of the transports flying away.

It might be brief, but this would hopefully make it feel like Finn’s arc had real significance beyond reacting to Poe and Rey.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

This sounds interesting actually, are there cinematically of FO transports leaving Exegol?

Unfortunately, Exegol isn’t a map in the game. However, there are shots from Jakku, Crait, and Ajan Kloss that could be color-corrected to look like Exegol.

Would there be a large enough density of other ships to believably be part of this same battle? I’ll admit that I don’t have good enough experience with VFX to comp a troop carrier into the film’s footage (though I’d love for someone to replace Rey’s X-Wing with a Troop carrier) or do such drastic color correction and keep it looking believable. I would be able to isolate the audio enough to make those changes though.

If someone supplied me with shots of the troop carrier, I could quickly comp together your suggested edit.

…Doesn’t Finn’s recruitment of and connection to Company 77 straight up save the galaxy? Without them, they wouldn’t have been able to disable the Steadfast, and the fleet would have been able to make it clear of the planet’s atmosphere.

It’s very underdeveloped. Jannah is the only member we see him interact with, and the way the film is cut (and with other members of that strike force being Resistance members like Rose) it’s unclear and vague. This was an attempt to build upon that.

That’s a good point, and I certainly wouldn’t remove that part. But would you rather have a scene of Finn reacting to Rey’s death and resurrection, or a scene of him making a compassionate decision based on his past experiences?

Especially when Rey arrives to the celebration so much later, and the emotion of that embrace might be more powerful if Finn didn’t know she survived.

Speaking about Finn and Jannah, I was wondering about playing a subtle version of Luke’s theme (the main theme) under the scene where she recounts how her squad refused to kill civilians. Then, in the opening crawl, Luke’s sacrifice would be directly referenced, and that it sent a “shockwave across the galaxy” or something like that. This would imply that Luke’s final act is not only force projecting to Crait, but also having people all across the galaxy feel the force (even if it’s just for a minute). I know that’s kind of ridiculous, but it adds even further weight to Luke saying “I will not be the last Jedi”, and actually makes his sacrifice relevant, which is my biggest problem with TROS. It’s silly, but this IS the radical redux thread, so I thought I should mention it.

I’d like that… helps explain Finn seemingly just now having an awakening himself.

It’s not Luke’s theme anymore, so this is meaningless.

In the Art of Book it says that in previous versions of TROS, Finn encountered a sibling on a wreckage world.

In the early leaks Janna was meant to be Finns sister and it would have been later revealed that Lando was their father (evidently from the visual dictionary and novelisation)
