Trying to figure out the amount of over lap, extracting, curves to bump shadow more to highlights, feathering and opacity. But would like to give some impression of the sabers actually being there.

Im also thinking about the ship lights going dark when the attack begins, with the ship going into emergency lock down. I may change the rafter lights to red as the lights kick off.

Other than the obvious logical reason on the federation ends, it adds to the ambiance of the dark moody intro and gives more lighting dynamics to play with through out the movie. Which will be important for the end fight.

On a side note. Im going to try to make some displays for the monitors in the other movies to lay some ground work for the sequel trilogy and the potential that the Emperor has clones, and maybe that Snoke is some older Sith that he got the genetic stock for.

Let me know your general thoughts to all of this and if it’s worth pursuing.

Thank you! Still tweaking it to get the colors from both sabers to wash over things and blend in certain areas but really wanted feedback before i went too far in a direction that may not be wanted or liked by the fans.

I want them to be able to be held up to the sequel trilogy as much as the o.g. trilogy.

Gratzi amico mio! (also, thank you google haha). I still need to pull out that force push in case anyone is wondering. I havn’t added the saber glow yet to the scenes of them fighting the droids either. Sooooooo much maskingggg lol even subtle stuff. Like when they are greeted by the droid after exiting the docking bay room. The docking bay is masked out from the rest of the scene so i could make it look like the docking bay is actually lit up like the other scenes i changed. Since the docking bay was dark and gloomy for some reason in the originals. Theres scenes of Obi and Quigon at the table where the planet reflection is visible of the table, so the planet has to be added to it and flipped the right way for a mirror reflection. Some stuff more noticeable than others. Eventually ill get up a comparison video though. I can not wait to get to the sound and replacing the alien voices. Definitely not my favorite part of the sequels. Ive still got to move over to Blender though for some of the later scenes of the movie like the Gun Gun field battle. Really want to make these a unique viewing experience though.

Are you doing more with the planet? The tracking of the layered images seems to move at different speeds and are not to scale across images. Sorry, not trying to be a downer, just wondering if they’ll be better synced.

Could you be more specific? Which scene/s are you referring to? They are tracked with the 3d tracker, not manually. So they should be on point. The masking does need to be smoothed out more though as i’ve only done a lot of key frames and not all 23/24 frames per second. As 24 frames per sec comes to 1640 a minute just for one masking layer and they’re are manyyyyyyy layers. Which is why in most post i re-iterate the amount of masking still to finish.
Positioning of the planet has not been exacted right now and still needs to be, but none of the scenes shown really show this. These are the scenes of the jedi at the table and the Federation guys in the command room. As the camera bounces between scenes. I didn’t include these though. The scenes in space are mostly to size of where they need to be, but not perfect.
The planet position and scale isn’t my focus right now though. Just its tracking and masking of all the other elements around it. The planet has to be switched out in some scenes as i exported the planet as a video so i could 3d track it into the scene, as tracking it manually wasn’t working. As such, the planet i exported is a full view and had to be magnified too much for some of the close up scenes, causing a loss in resolution quality and detail. So i have to export some video’s of the planet with a closer view point. I also want to slow down the cloud movement and direction they are moving as the counter movement to the planet didn’t look right imo. (clouds are going left while planet is spinning to the right)
The tracking may be what you are referring to though and why i didn’t include the scenes of the Jedi at the table or walking around it talking. Still a lot of masking to do, so the windows look like they are sliding around, which makes the planet look like its moving. Combined with the planet and cloud rotation, creates weird movement that the eye picks up.
Let me know though and ill try and fix any and everything. Just got around to pulling out the force push effect from both scenes shown in the trailer, along with the flying droid passing under the fire effect instead of over it during the Attack of Theed shot that was pointed out.

There is a shot of the Queen’s ship getting hit by blaster fire as it escapes Naboo where the masking bothers me a lot still and needs to be fixed more in case you’re also thinking of it.

Point any and everything out though and bear with me as i get to smoothing out everything. As mentioned, so many frames and layers hahaha I greatly appreciate the input and tight scrutiny 😃

Just remember that the scene where they cut away from talking to federation guy on over head tv, and its still in the ship but the ship just starts to turn right. That scene isn’t 3d tracked and is tracked manually. I do have to fix when it starts to turn though i think. Just a fyi, i just remembered that scene. 3d tracker couldn’t calculate it for some reason.

So much more to do too. Have to add the saber glow on the people through out all the film still. Was something i had to play with a lot to get where i was ok with it (No negative feedback yet either), so im going to go ahead and add it to all of the films.
The saber battles in Revenge of the Sith were from an older attempt and aren’t actually rerotoscoped, just recolored with sparks and steam/smoke when they clash. So those will all look much better when done. Those were from my initial Machete Cut, before i decided to do so much work to TPM and AOTC. (Getting Mace to fight the Emperor alone was a proof of concept for me to go further)
I really appreciate the feedback and criticism, thank you!

Sorry, for not responding. My comments were mostly the first 39 seconds. The planet just feels a bit off. I think it’s a couple of things. The rotation of what looks like they might be clouds is contrary to the rotation of the planet itself. Not a super big issue, but the rotation and cloud movement just seem too fast for that scale. There’s also just a lot going on there. It’s impressive that you were able to put that in, but it just looks and feels a bit off right now due to speed and scale. What about slowing down the planet and cloud rotations?

I totally agree. I tried having the clouds turn the opposite direction to make them noticeable but it didn’t look right. The speed is too fast and i think it should turn with the planet to be more subtle. Also speed of it all needs to come down. A few tweaks so it’s color and brightness match across the scenes too, first to second shot especially needs to be fixed. Going from outside the ship to inside, i thought maybe i should adjust brightness given the light sources. Space being dark and the inside ship having lights, so i thought the first scene should be a little brighter given the lack of other light sources. Will fix all of that though.
Just takes hours to get the render out after tweaking things, but ill fix the planet and get it swapped out. Luckily the other mask are a separate layer so sliding in the fixed planet is easy enough once i tweak it and get it rendered.

Fixed up that droid passing in front of the fire during Theed Attack.

Super appreciate the input and critical eyes, and the time to let me know how to improve things. Thank you 😃

Wow! I love how this is coming along!

The shot of the Queen’s ship coming up from the planet is getting changed. The Queen’s ship has guards flanking her to protect her and lay down cover fire. Was trying to have one swoop up when the Queen’s ship was about to get shot, and have them take the hit. It didn’t come out looking right though and instead looks like the Queen’s ship hits him. So instead im going to redo this shot so that that ship just flys up ahead of them and out of frame while laying down cover fire. You can actually see the extra ship when R2 is fixing the damage (though im going to make him more noticeable). So the fourth guy will get blown up as the Queen’s ship is flying away in that last shot of the Federation Doughnut.

Replaced the moon in the shot from the space fight during the finale, but still need to do a few more laser blast, explosions, and the docking bay doors to the space station. Tracking in the planet for some of the shots inside the cockpits so hopefully next trailer ill show those. Though there’s a bit of work on the planet to do as far as exporting out a few variations of the planet for certain shots. Like the shot with the new moon, as the planet is during sunset and need to get the colors in the clouds right.

I did fix the planet and cloud motion though so it’s more stationary.

Dooku. Added an extra person in the bottom right pocket during the wide shot of the council. So Dooku is located to the right of Mace two seats. Which is not shown in any other shot, so worked perfectly. A few more tweaks to Dooku for this shot. The light wrap is white and should be a lil blue based on the shot of Qui Gon.

I am working on the shot during the funeral pyre but didn’t include it yet as im not done masking it. And the tracking for the clouds and stars in one shot is a little wonky (3d tracker’s fault) so im trying to tweak it and fix it so it looks right. Dooku’s head is a pain to mask with that hair as he cast his head down in sadness. (I don’t have an extra masking program, just what comes with After Effects. So pretty much all masking is manual. No smart masking tool. After effects isn’t good at calculating movement on masks.

Doing little tweaks still to the assault on Theed. Trying to figure what i can do to add damage. Cracks, ruble, fires, dust. These things have to be able to be consistent between shots, so some elements that may work for one scene don’t for another. Meaning im taking my time looking for good elements. I havnt gotten into purchasing ones but likely will at some point. Even once i get down Blender, i like things filmed with real camera’s when possible.

A ton of more work though but it’s coming along. A lot of masking for the Gun Gun city as there’s windows everyyyyy where. So that blue water has to go bye bye in alllll those shots and little spaces. Its a dirty swamp in the forest. That water is green with algae and other stuff. A little more work masking the balcony scene with Maul and Palpatine. A lot to do with the end space fight. Gotta fix the hill in the shot with the Federation approaching Theed. Some of the shots during the Gun Gun field battle. Plus more. 😃
