Did anyone consider using the audio from this (at 18:19)
https://youtu.be/orSF0EvYRD4?t=1092

to help explain Palpatine’s presence? “More than a clone; less than a man”. He says it in the Emperor voice and everything.

I’m not good at the audio stuff, but hey, if anyone here will take this up, it’ll be a cool thing to include. I remember that line was in the early leaks of the film, so I was bummed to find out the later leaks stated the line had been removed.

Yeah that’s been considered. I don’t remember exactly who did it or where’s the link to it, but there is a rough version of a rearranged Exegol opening, where “The dark side of the Force is a pathway…” is replaced with “more than a clone…”, (it also includes repurposed Palpatine dialogue to establish both the concept of the Force Dyad and his plan). The audio itself still needs some polishing but is a good attempt, and anything is better than leave the means of Sidious’s resurrection unaddressed.

Would it make sense to change Palpatine’s line “The Princess of Alderaan has disrupted my plans” to “The Queen of Alderaan…”? On one hand, the audience knows her as a princess and it wouldn’t make sense to be crowned the queen of a planet that no longer exists, but on the other hand… after all that time, not to mention the death of her parents, wouldn’t she be considered a queen, at least in the eyes of the few remaining Alderaanians?

Continuity-wise, after Leia and another Alderaanian named Evaan Verlaine help the survivors of Alderaan gather, resettle, and hide from the Empire, eventually Evaan is chosen as the new queen (elected Naboo-style, at Leia’s suggestion). It isn’t exactly clear on when that happened, though. The panel in the comic that it happens in is just kind of… ambiguously in the future.

I’ve posted a much more cleaned up version of the dialogue here a few times, but nobody’s given it a shot.

Unrelated:

Is there an HD version of this anywhere? Some of these shots seem useable with some background replacement work.

An analysis of how The Rise of skywalker was filmed and stylistically shot.

I find some of things here to be useful to keep in mind when editing.

That’s a great breakdown video.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but most of those shots have had the words “this way!” Replaced with “Follow Me!” No idea why but it gets frustrating when you count them.

I have noticed that. Johnson did it a lot too. Very annoying when you’re trying to cut around silliness. Coverage helps when you’re adjusting an edit.

Would have been sick to have Palpatine hiding in the sith shrine deep below the temple instead of Exogol, right under the noses of the New Republic and The First Order. Imagine the surprise of the destroyers emerging from deep below the surface of the industrial regions of the capital. A true power play.

Judging from this concept art this may have been the case in an early draft.

Okay, now I’m convinced the final sequence should be on Coruscant. My problem with it in DotF was that Rey and Kylo were halfway across the Galaxy from the big battle, but utilizing the Sith shrine beneath the Jedi Temple would be a brilliant way to remedy that. The Sith Citadel could be left as is, but the other 2/3 of the battle would require some FX work. Basically, you’d need to swap out the background. Finn’s mounted assault could be on the street, with defected stormtroopers, while Poe leads the battle in the skies. My one issue is I don’t see the fleet being hidden below Coruscant. Anyway, luckily, the ground isn’t visible in most shots, so it could just be said to be happening in the upper atmosphere. The space horses are visibly in the sky, however. Maybe they could stay there instead of on the streets?

This seems like it would involve an INSANE amount of VFX work.

If we keep the ground battle atop the Star Destroyer, there’s actually very few shots that would have to be cut or modified.

Interesting. We’d probably need to find some shots of Coruscant citizens reacting to the lightning so that the setting doesn’t feel arbitrary. I know there’s a shot in AOTC of some aliens on coruscant looking up at the sky in surprise, and I guess a few more could be composited using shots of cloud city.
Also, what would this edit do with the “search for Exegol” story? Would the Wayfinder be replaced with some other artifact, or would it turn out to be a red herring?

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”

Speaking of Exegol, do we know if there’s any recording of Threepio saying the word “Korriban” (or “Moraband”)? The way they introduced the idea of Exegol in the movie kind of gave me the impression they had just forgotten about Korriban, and I only later realized it was important to the story for Exegol to be a planet nobody had ever been to before. I think if after “the lost world of the Sith” Threepio said something like “where they went after the siege of Korriban, and supposedly remain to this day” then it would be a lot clearer.

All I’m hearing is Kylo walks through the ruins of the Jedi Temple to get down to the Sith Temple, and feels echoes of the past, gets quick FLASHES of Anakin’s attack on the temple. This… this is where his grandfather killed the Jedi and changed the galaxy.

I say just turn Exogol into Korriban. Instead of a rip-off, why not use the real thing?

Too many characters have visited it in the past. If you make this change, the entire plot and chain of mcguffins to be able to travel there doesn’t work. You’d have to make a lot of changes as to why they can’t just go to Korriban/Moraband.

There’ve been so many adjustments made to the ending scene, does anyone have a version of the “Rey Skywalker” shot with the background removed?

Yeah I guess you’re right. Maybe the plot could be changed so that the resistance only knows that Palpatine is out there without any knowledge/mention of Exogol. Rey would see visions of the Sith wayfinder (induced by Palps, “find me”) and so she checks the Jedi books where she finds that the Wayfinders where an ancient navigational tool used by The Sith of old.

So instead of looking for a hidden planet they are searching for Palpatine himself, effectively finding him on the long forgotten world of Korriban.

A few characters name Exegol onscreen throughout the movie, too. I’d be surprised, but if there exists usable 3PO dialogue about Korriband or Moriban or whatever, I certainly wouldn’t mind a tiny bit of worldbuilding as he says something like, “The hidden world of the Sith, after what happened on Korriband” or something like that. Just a throwaway line that hints at something more complicated.

Has anyone else had a chance to see Cinematic Captures’ new video? It’s a shame this person isn’t helping out on these edits. Using assets from Battlefront 2 I feel like they could easily product content for either a scene on Coruscant or a celebration on Naboo. I think some people have tried to reach out to them but I’m guessing haven’t had any luck. Check it out! -

That looks awesome! I’d also be interested in seeing “cinematic” video game footage used to show the destruction of the Tantive IV, since when I first saw the movie I didn’t even realize the ship went down.
