I think the music editing is more the problem - the actual timing of the shot and the wipe (the wipe should probably be more pronounced with a visible, more prominently blurred edge transitioning between the two scenes - maybe use the bottom of the leaf as the top edge of that wipe) is spot-on. Hanging on the “hyperspace trails” for a second or two is just wasted time. The only thing that makes the edit there feel “fast” is knowing that the music is being faded out too quickly - if you watch it without music, the beats hit just right. If that last horn blast was allowed to ring out in full, and maybe even reverb its way a second or two into the next scene, it’d join a lot better.

I almost used that in my mockup. I like ‘I have died before’ and hated to lose it. Honestly, saving ‘You want to kill me…that is what I want’ until the end would provide more information for Rey. It could be followed by him saying she’ll be empress and they will be one…that would provide all the context needed I think for the end to justify her not killing him right away, yet still provide all the setup at the beginning of the movie with the Kylo talk. Good idea!

Oh yeah, I meant to look at the lips. Moving some of that dialogue back to Rey’s scene shortens the swooping camera around to Palpatine so there’s plenty of room to play with in the timing. I’m not going to render another clip, but it should be easy if anyone wants to use the idea.

I just watched these and as edits they are both pretty good!

(The first has a notable shift in the general ambiance and/or reverb where the new/re-shuffles lines have been inserted)

However also on the first clip there’s a shift in the narrative that comes out of left field and doesn’t make sense in this context.

Palpatine:-

Kill me and my spirit will pass into you as all the sith live in me.

Kylo:-

What could YOU give ME?

I don’t see the connection in the two strands of conversation?

Ie

Person one:-

Where is the airport?

Person two:-

Orange?

Alternatively if there is a connection it’s this:

Palpatine is offering a deal along the lines of:-

Palpatine:-

‘Kill me so I can get out of this wretched body, I’ll possess you but in so doing I will allow you to share the power of the Sith’

Kylo:-

What do I get out of this??

Palpatine:-

Everyth…hold on, I just told you???

So, it makes Kylo seem a bit dim?

In my opinion the new Palpatine dialogue is fine in itself but the link to Kylo’s line is just not there or worse underserves his character?

Maybe over the shot of Palps’ test tube Clones or after Kylo ignites the saber to his face.

I was So devastated when I left the Cinema in December, but all those amazing work and ideas in this project make me believe I can actually enjoy the last Episode of the saga. Its incredible how Creative and capable you guys are.

Just some random ideas:
-anyone considered using some shots of Boba Fett or Mandalorians from “the Mandalorian” Just to make it even more fanservice epic scene? 😉 its probable they still live by the Time of those events.
-maybe some additional audio from Star Wars audio dramas? There are plenty of that there, like Xwing pilot ls standing by etc. Maybe even some additional dialogue from the Emperor (though I know Nick Jameson Doesnt sound So much as Ian)

I kinda see what you mean, but I don’t necessarily agree. Palpatine says before that he can give him so much more. Kylo is just bypassing the ‘sith overtakes him’ talk and asks what he means about giving him so much more. He can indulge Palps without wanting to do what he wants (which seems more what Palpatine wants, not Kylo). Kylo’s just concerned about the power aspect, which could be about the Final Order that Palps just mentioned. Then, he proceeds to show the fleet. It’s a fair point you make, I guess I just don’t personally have an issue with the dialogue composition.

As much as I would LOVE to remove the dagger … that probably isn’t possible. Instead, I think it would help to remove that “pop out” dagger scene when the crew is looking at the wreckage when Rey finds that detail to “line up” the design.

Instead, when she is looking out … couldn’t we simply add the Sith Whisper sounds when Rey is looking out? That way we recognize she is being guided by the dark side? We the audience know she is still “flirting” with the dark side, especially after the Last Jedi. She is kind of mirroring Luke’s footsteps in ROTJ where he wants to be full on Jedi, but he still has that temptation. Rey is a bit similar, albeit some differences … but she is looking for a Sith thingy, so she should be “guided” by that side.

Since we the audience, who have seen/watch Star Wars Movies would recognize those whispers and understand “Hey! that area is it!” without being told it.

Anyway, that’s my two cents.

I like that. Perhaps just show her pulling the dagger out of the bag, add the Sith whispers to the shots of her looking at it, but cut away before she pulls out the “line it up just right” thing.

Well, the Mustafar opening is Just an awesome scene, but both possibilities look great. Maybe you would consider realeasing versions of the film with two different openings?

Or maybe the scene on the Mustafar could be somehow reused as a flashback or something? I know its not crucial to the film, but its Just Such a badass scene 😉

Maybe so. I was thinking more along the lines of how he sounds during Anakin’s “coronation” in ROTS. I always felt he sounded completely different in that scene than how he sounds in the rest of the saga. But I liked the creepiness of it.

I don’t think that is too weird, before TROS i thought that he wasn’t really palpatine but the darkside of the force directly speaking through him, he using the voice of other sith more times than the prologue , would make the whole thing more mythical and less mundane.
